Chapter 402: Marry a Wife Who Wets Her Pants

“Who are you?” Xu Sanyan stopped, his eyes flashing with insight as he assessed the man’s cultivation level: Peak Stage Dao Seeking Realm.

This level wasn’t particularly strong, but neither was it weak. He wondered how someone of this caliber had ended up in such a dire situation.

Hearing a voice, the middle-aged man’s eyes lit up with relief. “I am Li Hai, the second steward of the Li Clan from Plum City,” he pleaded. “Please, fellow cultivator, save me!”

Before he could finish, a shadowy figure lunged from behind the man, its claws aimed for his neck.

It was a ghost beast!

Before Xu Sanyan could react, Lin Fan darted forward, dispatching the creature in mere moments.

Xu Sanyan frowned slightly. The ghost beast wasn’t particularly strong; he couldn’t understand how it had driven this man to such desperation.

“You’re from the Li Clan?”

Seeing the ghost beast dead, the man finally exhaled in relief, straightening his posture. “Indeed,” he replied solemnly. “I am Li Hai, the second steward of the Li Clan. Thank you for saving me, fellow cultivator.”

“How could someone from the Li Clan end up in such a miserable state?” Xu Sanyan asked, puzzled.

According to the journey, Plum City shouldn’t be far from here, placing us deep within Li Clan territory. As the dignified second butler, why has he fallen into such a state?

Li Hai’s expression immediately darkened, his face filled with sorrow as he said in a low voice, “To be honest, fellow cultivator, the Li Clan… I fear it’s gone.”

“Huh? Gone?” Xu Sanyan exclaimed in shock, then quickly realized what he meant. “Was it attacked by that monster?”

“Yes,” Li Hai nodded silently.

“Hiss~” Xu Sanyan gasped, a wave of lingering fear washing over him. He couldn’t help but turn to look at Lin Fan, his heart filled with complex emotions.

This is fate!

If Lin Fan hadn’t appeared and delayed them, they would have likely run straight into that flesh giant by now, never encountering the second butler halfway and receiving this warning.

Even if their lives weren’t at risk, they would have undoubtedly wasted considerable effort.

Lin Fan blinked, wondering why the holy son was suddenly staring at him.

But ever polite, he grinned widely, showing off his teeth.

Xu Sanyan returned the smile, thinking it was best to keep this human charm close—it might ward off misfortune.

Seeing the holy son smile, Lin Fan’s grin widened even further.

Li Hai, standing nearby, lowered his head even deeper, utterly bewildered. Why are they so happy about the Li Clan’s destruction? he wondered. Could they be here for revenge?

“Fellow Daoists… where do you hail from?” Li Hai asked, summoning his courage. I’m at their mercy now. If I can’t resist, I might as well ask and die knowing the truth.

“Oh, we’re from the Wang Family,” Xu Sanyan replied, shaking his head. “We were sent by the First Madam to retrieve someone, but now it seems…”

Li Hai immediately felt a wave of relief. The Wang Family’s First Madam was a member of the Li Clan, practically family. These two shouldn’t harm him.

Boom!

Just as Li Hai was about to speak, a deafening roar erupted from the distant horizon, as if the earth itself were collapsing and the Earth Dragon had stirred. Xu Sanyan felt the ground tremble violently beneath his feet.

“What’s happening?!” Lin Fan exclaimed in shock, instinctively asking the question.

Xu Sanyan didn’t know either, but he knew they had to run.

“Let’s go!”

Xu Sanyan grabbed Lin Fan and prepared to flee. Li Hai frantically shouted, “Fellow Daoist, please take me with you! I’ll reward you handsomely if we survive!”

Xu Sanyan didn’t have time to argue. After a moment’s hesitation, he casually scooped up Li Hai as well and flew back along their original path at top speed.

Rumble!

The ground trembled even more violently. Rows of ancient trees tilted sideways, their roots tearing out of the earth, swarming with countless insects.

Xu Sanyan glanced back and saw a colossal, towering silhouette emerging from the dense, gray mist—a flesh giant so immense it seemed to stomp the earth and prop up the sky.

The mere sight of its outline sent a violent tremor through Xu Sanyan’s mind. All thoughts vanished, leaving only one primal urge:

Run!

Run faster!

No mortal could withstand such a monster!

Why is it so massive?

Li Hai frowned deeply, his eyes etched with indelible worry. He muttered to himself, “This thing… it seems even bigger than before…”

“Hmm?”

Xu Sanyan heard him clearly and pressed, “You mean it wasn’t this big before?”

“Absolutely not,” Li Hai said with a firm nod. “When it attacked the formation a few days ago, it was tall, but nowhere near this massive.”

“Could it have gained some advantage from your Li Clan?” Xu Sanyan speculated.

“That’s possible. Otherwise, why would it be so relentless in attacking cities and fortresses? There must be a reason.”

“Hmm…”

The conversation ended there. Xu Sanyan shot off into the distance, gradually disappearing from view as the giant’s silhouette faded. Only then did he pause to rest.

“Thank you, Fellow Daoist, for saving my life!” Li Hai said, clasping his hands in a formal bow as soon as he landed.

“Ah, don’t mention it. Saving a life is more virtuous than building a seven-tiered pagoda, you know?” Xu Sanyan replied casually.

Doing a good deed every day had become a habit for him, so he saw nothing remarkable about it.

“Exactly! The Holy… I mean, my elder brother is a good man!” Lin Fan chimed in, nearly slipping up before quickly correcting himself.

Li Hai, however, didn’t notice the slip. His mind was still reeling, preoccupied with thoughts of what he should do next.

Xu Sanyan felt a twinge of annoyance. He had been promised a generous reward for saving Li Hai, but now it seemed forgotten.

After a brief pause, the trio continued their journey. Xu Sanyan’s trip was destined to be fruitless. Li Hai revealed that the First Madam’s sister was born simple-minded, making it highly unlikely she could survive such a cataclysmic event.

Li Hai had a stroke of luck, managing to break through the encirclement. But if he hadn’t encountered Xu Sanyan, he would have surely ended up as beast fodder.

Boom!

Another thunderous roar echoed from the horizon, the sound rapidly approaching their position. Xu Sanyan whirled around to see the colossal silhouette of the flesh giant looming once more.

“Damn it! They’re heading straight for Thousand Autumns City!” Xu Sanyan exclaimed in alarm.

The direction was unmistakably toward Thousand Autumns City.

“Move, now!”

Without hesitation, Xu Sanyan swept up the other two and soared into the air, changing course.

“Fellow Daoist, this way! The Chaotic Cloud Mountains are no longer safe. We should get out of here first,” Li Hai urged. Having grown up in these mountains, he knew the terrain well and took the lead.

“Agreed,” Xu Sanyan replied. He didn’t question Li Hai’s guidance; they were all in the same boat now, and even if Li Hai was a fool, he wouldn’t sabotage himself.

“Which clan’s territory lies beyond this exit?” Xu Sanyan asked, seizing a moment to inquire.

“The Zuoqiu Clan of Huai Lake,” Li Hai answered.

Lin Fan perked up immediately. “The Zuoqiu Clan?”

Yi’er’s family?

He realized it had been ages since he’d last seen Yi’er. They hadn’t met since their last parting. I wonder how she’s doing?

Lin Fan’s simping tendencies resurfaced. Here he was, barely clinging to his own survival, yet still worrying about others.

Xu Sanyan, however, had no patience for their romantic drivel. All he wanted was to escape!

Meanwhile,

Over a thousand miles from the Chaotic Cloud Mountains, a bamboo boat drifted across a vast, majestic lake, carried by the wind.

A young woman stood on the boat, cradling an infant in her arms and gently teasing it while humming a nursery rhyme:

“Waa-waa-dang, waa-waa-dang, marry a wife who wets her pants…”

The infant didn’t laugh, but the woman chuckled to herself, “Heh heh heh~”
