Chapter 483: Dog God
Though the position was humiliating, Xun Ancai seemed oblivious to it. Instead, her face flushed crimson as she struggled against her restraints.
But Xu Sanyan was a formidable Sage Realm expert—she stood no chance of breaking free.
“What have you done?!” Xun Ancai demanded, her voice trembling.
This was Xun Ancai’s first experience with such bizarre combat. Without seeing any movement from her opponent, she found herself completely immobilized, like a fish on a chopping block, utterly at his mercy. The sensation filled her with panic.
Xu Sanyan, however, showed no urgency. With a casual wave of his hand, a long saber flew into his grasp. His fingertip brushed against the blade, the razor-sharp edge pricking his skin, a testament to the master’s meticulous care for his weapon.
Swish—
The saber flashed, and a bloodied arm belonging to one of the Dog Clan people soared into the air, crimson splattering across the ground. Yet the severed figure remained motionless, as if devoid of sensation.
“Help me with something, and I’ll spare your lives. How does that sound?” Xu Sanyan grinned, turning to Xun Ancai, drops of fresh blood dripping from the blade like a cold-blooded butcher’s.
“You’ll get nothing from me!” Xun Ancai spat, her face contorted with fierce defiance.
Even without his explicit words, Xun Ancai understood his intentions. As the Dog Clan Chieftain, she would never betray the Dog God!
The chaos here drew more and more Dog Clan people, but regardless of age or gender, they froze in place like puppets once they reached a certain distance.
Seeing her refusal, Xu Sanyan wasted no more words. He raised his blade and slowly drew it across the neck of one of the Dog Clan people, leaving a clean, precise cut through flesh and skin.
Swish—
With a slight increase in pressure, the massive head detached, and the headless corpse toppled to the ground.
“Stop!”
Xu Sanyan ignored her struggles and screams, unmoved as he calmly approached the next victim. His movements were deliberate and unhurried, the sound of his blade slicing through skin clearly audible.
Rage burned in Xun Ancai’s eyes, her crimson pupils fixed on Xu Sanyan, as if she wished to devour him alive.
To Xu Sanyan, the lives of the Dog Clan people were no different from those of ants. He would have considered it beneath him to dirty his fingers by crushing them.
If Xun Ancai still refused after he had slaughtered every last member of the Dog Clan, then so be it. He would simply attempt to uncover the secrets of the Dog God himself.
In truth, Xu Sanyan’s interest in the Dog God stemmed from mere curiosity. But for the Dog Clan, it was a cataclysmic threat.
He was a demon lord, a fact Xu Sanyan never denied. He would act selfishly to benefit himself, and sometimes even when there was no benefit to be gained.
Just as he was doing now.
Sizzle—
Even as he pondered, his hands continued their work. Over twenty Dog Clan people had already been decapitated. Xu Sanyan scanned the crowd, searching for his next lucky victim.
“Stop…” Xun Ancai pleaded, her voice choked with grief. As clan chief, she was torn between her loyalty to the Dog God and her inability to watch her people die. Trapped between these impossible choices, she wished she could die in their place.
Xu Sanyan paused, turning back. His pale green robes remained spotless, his smile still gentle. “You agree?”
“I…”
Seeing her hesitation, Xu Sanyan raised his long blade again. Xun Ancai cried out in anguish, “I agree!”
Xu Sanyan nodded with satisfaction. “That’s more like it. All this trouble could have been avoided if you’d agreed sooner. Look at all these lives wasted.”
“Heh…” Xun Ancai laughed bitterly, her heart as cold as ashes. She could never have imagined that the man who had shared her bed, who had entwined with her day and night, could be so ruthless and heartless.
Xu Sanyan released her restraints and flew toward Heroic Soul Mountain, taking Xun Ancai with him. He glanced down at the hundreds of Dog Clan people standing frozen below, then indifferently averted his gaze.
In truth, it made little difference whether they lived or died. Once the Demonic Seed was planted, it could never be removed. They would remain under Xu Sanyan’s control for the rest of their lives, their independent personalities forever lost.
Yet Xun Ancai foolishly believed that if Xu Sanyan spared them, they would return to their former selves.
Heh…
At the foot of Heroic Soul Mountain, Xun Ancai knelt before the Dog God statue, her eyes already brimming with tears. Her heart felt like it was being flayed alive, the pain unbearable.
But a choice had to be made: abandon the Dog God or abandon her entire clan.
Clearly, Xun Ancai had chosen to abandon the former.
If all her clan members died, even with the Dog God remaining, the Dog Clan would be as good as extinct.
Xu Sanyan gestured toward the Dog God statue with a nod. “There. Go ahead.”
Xun Ancai’s heart bled as she turned to Xu Sanyan, a hint of pleading in her eyes. But Xu Sanyan remained unmoved, his gaze fixed on her with unwavering intensity.
Left with no other option, Xun Ancai shakily retrieved several Earth Vein Stones. She pressed her palms together in a devout gesture and bowed reverently toward the statue, two clear streams of tears sliding from her eyes to the corners of her lips, leaving a bitter taste.
Xu Sanyan stood silently to the side, watching. As Xun Ancai’s lips moved, an arcane sacrificial text, its meaning obscure, flowed from her mouth. The Earth Vein Stones between her palms glowed brightly, coalescing into a pillar of light that shot into the statue.
Whoosh—
In an instant, the statue seemed to come to life. The dull, gray stone eyes lit up with a faint glow. Xu Sanyan sensed something surging from beneath Heroic Soul Mountain into the statue, imbuing it with life.
This is the Dog God…
Xu Sanyan studied the statue with keen interest. The creature seemed to possess a rudimentary intelligence, yet it had dared to appear despite knowing he was present. Perhaps it couldn’t resist Xun Ancai’s summons.
Whoosh!
A vortex of violent energy coalesced in Xu Sanyan’s hand and slammed into the base of the statue. A thunderous explosion erupted, yet the statue remained stubbornly upright.
“You!” Xun Ancai gritted her teeth, her gaze fixed on the statue with anguish. She still couldn’t fathom Xu Sanyan’s motives—why was he attacking the statue?
“Hmm…”
Xu Sanyan was mildly surprised. The statue had actually withstood his initial strike. Abandoning restraint, he conjured the phantom outline of a sword in the void, and the Holy Ancestor’s Sword materialized in his hand.
Swish!
The sword’s light swept across the statue. This time, the statue couldn’t withstand the blow. Fragments of stone rained down as cracks spiderwebbed across the Dog God’s intricately carved form. As the fissures widened, streaks of radiant light leaked through the gaps.
Boom!
Reaching its breaking point, the divine statue shattered with a deafening roar. Through the debris, a pair of hollow eyes locked onto Xu Sanyan’s gaze.
These were literal hollows—two dark, empty sockets where eyeballs should have been.
“You’re… the Dog God?” Xun Ancai stared in disbelief at the radiant figure at the statue’s core, her mind reeling.
How could the Dog God look like this?
Xu Sanyan was also slightly surprised. Embedded within the statue was a human skeleton, devoid of flesh or organs. The radiant light emanated from the bones themselves, as if they had been plated in gold.
Is this thing… alive or dead?
Curious, Xu Sanyan examined it closely, channeling his spiritual power to pull it free. The skeleton offered no resistance, emitting no discernible energy fluctuations—it was undoubtedly lifeless.
So this was the “god” of this small world. Xu Sanyan felt a twinge of disappointment as he prepared to store the skeleton and leave.
But the moment he turned away, a ghostly glow flickered in the skeleton’s empty eye sockets, its gaze fixed intently on Xu Sanyan’s back.
