Chapter 1604: Li Yan is Wounded
Han Zhumei had stealthily approached within a hundred feet before she felt Li Yan had detected her. She didn’t hesitate. A Jade-like Bow appeared in her hand, and a White Feather Arrow manifested on the string, which she immediately loosed toward the turning Li Yan.
A barrage of dense arrow whistles filled the air like a heavy rain. Li Yan felt a chill down his spine as a swarm of white light trailed toward him. Each arrow was aimed at his vitals, with spiraling air currents at the tips. Even with his high defense, Li Yan knew he couldn’t take so many hits. His figure was forced out of hiding, and he began to scramble through the grass, diving and leaping frantically.
Han Zhumei glided across the tips of the grass, her feet occasionally tapping them as if she were skating on ice. Her wind-sense was locked onto Li Yan, and her bow was a blur of motion. Her white hands were moving so fast they created a flurry of snow-like motion as she drew, aimed, and released over and over.
“Li Yan!” she cried out. Since she had the upper hand, she wouldn’t give him a single moment to breathe or hide again.
Li Yan couldn’t afford to reply. The arrows were relentless and incredibly fast. Han Zhumei’s angles were more cunning than he could have imagined. His clothes were shredded, and while he managed to protect his vitals, the arrows that grazed him took chunks of flesh with them. Each wound bled out his magical power, steadily weakening him.
In ten breaths, she had fired over two thousand arrows. Li Yan had over forty wounds, but luckily none were fatal. Seeing him still evading, Han Zhumei began firing ten arrows at a time. She was no longer conserving her magical power. She knew that while a Body Cultivator’s evasive maneuvers were fast, they couldn’t last forever.
However, she herself had consumed half her power in these ten breaths. Watching Li Yan through the rain of arrows, she let out a cold snort and a white mist rose from her hands.
Li Yan twisted in mid-air to dodge another arrow, but as it grazed his ribs, he suddenly curled into a ball. Four White Feather Arrows whistled past the top, bottom, left, and right of his curled form, thudding into the earth. However, one of the arrows was a bit too close. It tore away a large patch of his clothes and flesh, which immediately turned into motes of light.
He then lunged forward into the grass, using the momentum to spring off like a ball in a completely different direction. Thirty more arrows slammed into the spot he had just left.
“Damn woman!” Li Yan took a split second to look at his right arm. It was missing half its thickness. His magical power was leaking out even faster now.
Suddenly, a different sound reached his ears. His heart constricted. The sky and ground around him were filled with a blinding white light from the sheer number of arrows coming from every direction—above, below, left, and right.
Li Yan suddenly slapped his own right shoulder with his left hand. With a loud crack, he forcibly detached his right arm and a portion of his side from his body. Before the severed part could vanish, the force of his strike exploded it into a massive wave of spiritual energy. This created a temporary spiritual power air wall behind him.
The wall was shredded in an instant by the following arrows, but it gave Li Yan a fraction of a second to vanish and hide his aura once more. Han Zhumei arrived at the spot, her foot stomping the ground in frustration. Li Yan had escaped using a self-harming attack art. She knew he was badly wounded and his power was draining, so she decided to stay close. He wouldn’t dare take a pill while she was this close, and she was determined to find him through the wind.
In the grass, Li Yan was breathing heavily. ‘That was close!’ The attack had been too overwhelming. If he hadn’t thought of blowing up his own detached limb to create a spiritual power light screen, he would have had to use his secret Phoenix Soars to the Heavens movement skill. He didn’t want her to know his true speed yet.
Li Yan felt his power draining, but a smirk touched his lips. He knew Han Zhumei was only a few dozen feet away, and she had no idea where he was. He didn’t dare use his divine sense to get a pill, but he was pushing his Stealthy Night Art to its absolute limit. He crept forward a few yards and saw she hadn’t moved. The Stealthy Night Art could fool a Void Refining expert, and it was working against this Spirit Transformation woman.
