Chapter 1067: Chapter 509: Evil Imp
The old woman sat up from the leather blanket. As if to see more clearly, she leaned forward as far as she could.
THUMP THUMP!
An inexplicable vibration echoed in the cramped room. Others might not realize it, but Gauss could “see” that the abnormal fleshy tumor inside her body was beating at an accelerated rate. Even the surrounding Natural Magic was affected, rippling outward in continuous waves.
“What exactly are you?” The old woman clambered to her feet with a wary expression, smoothly pulling You—who was just about to help her up—firmly behind her back protectively.
In her Perception, the creature standing before her was utterly terrifying. It was undoubtedly the most dreadful monster she had ever encountered in her life. She saw the phantom forms of numerous monsters overlapping on its body, as though countless different beasts had been stitched together. Moreover, these numerous phantoms were simultaneously bearing their fangs and brandishing their claws, exuding terrifying shadows outward. Even someone like her, who had always been fully confident in her own strength, subconsciously felt a sense of weakness.
The Source of Magical Power within her body, passed down through generations, also exuded an aura of fear.
“Clan Leader, this is my friend, Gauss,” You reminded her cautiously. Although she couldn’t understand why the usually calm and wise Clan Leader was having such an extreme reaction at the sight of Gauss, she still did her best to explain.
“Do not be deceived by it. It is the most terrifying monster,” the old woman said, her eyes narrowing. She nimbly snatched the Black Wooden Staff from the low table and held it defensively in front of her. A powerful surge of Magic Power poured out from the tumor in her body, flowing through her meridians and infusing into the Black Wooden Staff. The sheer force made the surrounding air feel noticeably heavier.
“Gauss?” Having just walked in behind Gauss, Aaliyah and the others saw this tense scene and subconsciously drew their weapons with a sharp SWISH, turning to him as their central pillar.
Gauss raised his hand, gesturing for them to stay calm.
His Charm Attribute had actually failed? Gauss felt somewhat surprised.
In most non-combat situations, his high-value Charm Attribute would subtly cause others to harbor favorable impressions of him when they met. He had always enjoyed the convenience brought by this high Charm. Yet, the moment the other party laid eyes on him, she called him a monster—and the most terrifying one at that.
Why was this? Even if his appearance differed somewhat from hers in terms of race, he was by no means ugly.
“You’s Clan Leader, I bear no ill will. Besides, are you certain you want to fight me here?” Gauss spread his hands, not even bothering to take out his Magic Wand.
The elderly woman’s expression instantly tightened at his words. She turned her head to look at You, who was clutching her arm and shaking her head desperately, and then she looked outside the door at their home.
Indeed. Setting aside whether she could even defeat this monster exuding such an abnormally bewitching aura, even if she won, the tribal village and her clansmen would undoubtedly not survive the crossfire. This wasn’t like the monster invasions of the past that could be easily resolved. If all her clansmen were dead, what would be the point of her fighting?
Realizing this, the strength supporting her body instantly withered away.
“Truly an evil fiend,” the old woman said, her body trembling. Ultimately, she lowered the Black Wooden Staff in her hand.
Seeing the old woman persuaded by a few simple words and giving up her desire to fight, the corners of Gauss’s lips curved up slightly. Although he had no intention of harming the Yu Clan People, he was more than happy to use this leverage to make her hesitate out of fear for the collateral damage, thus saving himself some effort. Fundamentally, outside of facing monsters, Gauss couldn’t muster much malice toward human targets, especially when they were not inherently wicked and were simply struggling to survive.
Caught in the middle, You also breathed a sigh of relief, repeatedly patting her chest. She had been genuinely terrified that her Clan Leader would get into a fight with her new friend, Gauss, and his group. She knew full well just how powerful Gauss was.
“Gauss is a good person. Clan Leader, you must have misunderstood something,” You said. She cautiously looked up at Gauss and shot him an apologetic expression.
She figured the Clan Leader, much like the rest of the tribe, harbored some prejudice against Gauss and his companions simply because they looked different from them. However, she truly believed that Gauss was a kind-hearted person. Over these past few days, not only had he slaughtered a massive number of evil monsters, but he had also rescued many innocent civilians in the wilderness. Even everyone in his tribe… oh, no, the adventure group treated him with the utmost respect.
It was precisely because she had spent a few days by his side and witnessed his actions with her own eyes that You finally acknowledged him and was willing to invite him as a guest to her tribe. It was just that the wariness her clansmen and Clan Leader showed toward Gauss filled her heart with guilt, especially since she had been talking up her tribe to him the entire way here.
You pulled the Clan Leader back down onto the blanket and ushered Gauss and his companions further into the room.
“Madam, you seem highly wary of me. May I ask why?” Gauss wasn’t angry; he was just curious. The gaze she directed at Aaliyah and the others was relatively mild, making it clear that her extreme reaction toward him did not stem from simple xenophobia.
“You might be able to fool You, and you might be able to fool others, but you cannot fool me, you evil little demon.” Although the old woman had abandoned the idea of fighting him because her clansmen’s lives were on the line, she still believed from the bottom of her heart that Gauss was nothing good.
In her Perception, the aura radiating from him was simply too wicked. One moment he felt like a massive green-skinned creature, the next a brown lizard-headed monster. In the blink of an eye, he morphed into a wolf, a Giant Dragon…
Appearances could be deceiving, but this genuine bloodline aura could not be faked.
