Chapter 533: Image

Stalin was finding it a bit difficult to continue the fight. He discovered that his rule in Russia was being shaken and challenged as never before, so he urgently recalled a portion of the troops that were preparing to head to the front and stationed them near Moscow to consolidate his position.

On the other hand, the news of the United States going to war with Japan was now household knowledge, and the supply of munitions from the United States had also decreased considerably due to America’s entry into the war. The Americans were now in a state of full mobilization and of course did not have more resources to support the distant Soviets. However, fortunately, the Americans had not been too ruthless, only cutting off a portion of the steel and munitions supply.

This time, one could not blame the United States for being uncharitable. The war situation in the Pacific was, to be honest, not optimistic. The U.S. military had already lost one-third of the Philippines and almost one-fifth of Malaysia in just a few days. Under the fierce attack of the Japanese army, even the United States’ General MacArthur had fled in panic, losing one defensive line after another.

There was a piece of good news from the British side. The Chinese Expeditionary Force, after appearing in Burma, had organized a sizable counter-attack and had stabilized the battle situation near the Burma Road. The security of the flank of Britain’s most important colony, India, had been guaranteed, and the situation in Southeast Asia had become even more confusing.

To continue fighting under these circumstances was clearly of no benefit to the Soviet Union. But if they were to take the initiative to request a truce, Germany would certainly make many excessive demands—and these demands would certainly affect his authoritarian rule in the Soviet Union.

But the matter still had to be dealt with; it was an inevitable choice. After several days of agonizing, Stalin and his foreign policy advisors finally came up with a countermeasure: the Soviet Union and Germany would publicly sign a new non-aggression pact to replace the one that had been unilaterally torn up by the Soviet Union. And the bottom line for this new treaty was to cede all of the Polish territory.

“You must fight for some other clauses on this basis,” Stalin said, pounding the table at his subordinates. “For example, the return of our country’s prisoners of war, and the return of the weapons and equipment captured from our country, and so on.”

“Great Soviet leader, Comrade Stalin, we will do our best to fight for these clauses at the negotiating table. But you know that under the current circumstances, we cannot guarantee that our demands will be successful,” a Soviet diplomat under Stalin said in a low voice, bowing his head.

Stalin was relatively open-minded at this time. After all, this mess had been created by his own rashness. “Do your best to fight for them. After all, the Germans are more eager to stop the war now. As long as we seize this key point, we can defeat those detestable Germans at the negotiating table!”

With this one sentence from the Soviet leader, the several Soviet diplomats were covered in sweat. Your army couldn’t handle it for you, and now that things are in a complete mess, you want us diplomats to sort it out… If we could get back the land, persuade the enemy to retreat, and reap benefits with words, what would we need so many armies for? Wouldn’t it be better to disband them all and have the country study to become diplomats?

And so, these pitiful Soviet diplomats set off with the earnest hopes of their motherland. They would have to face a whole set of negotiation documents carefully prepared for them by Merkel and the others, including the issue of Ukraine’s ownership, the issue of prisoners of war, the re-demarcation of the German-Soviet border region, and so on.

And at this moment, Akado was busy with his own child. Mercedes was due to give birth in June. As the child of the greatest Führer of this empire, this little one was destined to be born with many halos.

The Pope in Rome personally sent his own delegation of envoys, led by a cardinal, to Berlin in a grand procession. They were to personally baptize this child, because this child was already pretty much the most noble person in the world. Akado was called a gift from God by the German people, so his soon-to-be-born offspring would naturally illuminate Germany like an angel.

The difference was that the Germany this infant would illuminate was a bit vast… okay, it had to be admitted that this country had never been so vast. It stretched from Norway in the north, near the Arctic Circle, to the German territories in North Africa in the south. It extended from the industrial regions of southern Britain in the west to the cold North Atlantic, and the Ukraine in the east had just been trampled under the feet of its army. In such a vast area, it was either a direct German territory or a puppet state.

A huge empire that spanned Europe, a world number one military power. The German Wehrmacht had swept across the entire continent in one and a half years and was even swaggering on Soviet soil.

Mercedes now had a round, large belly, and she herself had become slightly plump from eating more and more. She was no longer perfect, no longer imposing, but she had an added dazzling maternal radiance and was even more brilliant.

All men must cherish the woman who is willing to bear your child, because in the nearly ten months of pregnancy, she will lose her youth, lose her beauty, and her bones will be deformed—like a beautiful scenery that is slowly disappearing, filling one with regret.

This is not to say that a woman will definitely become ugly after giving birth. If she takes good care of herself, she will also retain her beauty. But that beauty is no longer the youthful beauty of her youth, but a precipitation and aftertaste of a mature, motherly charm. And that young girl from the past is truly gone forever.

Akado was happy at this moment, because a goddess as perfect as Mercedes was willing to bear a child for him. Akado had always felt that he was a lucky man, to be able to meet so many women who were as dazzling as stars. He was very grateful to Mercedes, grateful that she had filled his new life with reality, grateful that she was willing to give everything for a selfish man.

It was precisely because of this that Akado had decided, before the child was born, to be a responsible, good husband and to stay at home to spend a real weekend holiday with Mercedes.

At this very moment, he was brandishing a spatula, an apron tied around his waist, and in a manner that was a world away from the image in the people’s minds, he was nervously facing the stove with its dancing flames in the kitchen.

In his previous life, Gu Changge had always been a single young man. He had had girlfriends, but he had never been married, so he had maintained the rough lifestyle of a slob. Fortunately, in that world, there was instant noodles to save his stomach. Unfortunately, because of this, he had not learned any amazing cooking skills.

Just now, while chopping vegetables, the poor Akado had almost taken off his own finger with the kitchen knife. Amidst the screams of the head chef, he had bandaged his little finger and had barely completed the great feat of shredding some vegetables. In Anna’s words, “For the Führer, chopping vegetables is about the same as landing in Britain; both involve bloodshed.”

And a camera and a photographer on the side were faithfully recording this wonderful kitchen labor. Fanny felt that the Führer, even when resting at home, should make his own contribution to the Reich’s propaganda ministry. And so, Hugo, the Führer’s personal photographer, and a dozen or so other photographers and cameramen had surrounded Akado completely.

The besieged Akado awkwardly tossed the vegetable salad, but fortunately, this work was not dangerous. In the eyes of the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Industry, and even the head of the Strategic Materials Reserve, the Führer could waste 20 tons of grain, that was no problem… just don’t let Akado touch dangerous things like knives again.

Later, as the preparation of this special dinner made by the Führer himself progressed, the poor head of security at the Führer’s residence discovered that the more dangerous thing was definitely not the knives, but the gas.

If the chef following behind Akado had not been quick-witted, Akado would have burned down the entire kitchen of the Führer’s residence. At this moment, Mr. Führer was like a big boy who had done something wrong, looking dejectedly at the piece of steak he had burned to a crisp, and constantly explaining to Anna beside him that he had not intentionally wasted a good piece of beef.

Of course, in the end, they still had to thank the chefs of the Führer’s residence, because if it weren’t for them, the pregnant Mercedes would have only had a little bit of salad with the Führer’s blood in it for dinner.

“To be honest, my dear, your cooking skills are definitely worse than sister Mercedes’s,” Anna said, grabbing a piece of sliced steak and, after putting it in her mouth, not forgetting to lick her fingers. She then, while chewing, satirized Akado’s cooking skills in front of Mercedes.

“…” Not every transmigrator is a master of Sichuan, Shandong, and Cantonese cuisine, okay? Do you think I graduated from some culinary school? I’m only in charge of eating, okay? And even when I eat, I’m just an ordinary user, the kind of person who just takes a few more bites if it’s delicious. I can’t point at a dish and talk about the cooking method, critique the ingredients, and then chat for two hours about its history!

“Alright, alright! Akado personally cooking is a gesture of his heart. Don’t discourage him,” Mercedes said with a smile as she ate, speaking to Anna. “He’s the kind of guy who you can’t even see at mealtimes. As the Führer of the entire Reich, he’s very busy! To be able to spend a day with us is already a great thing.”

Akado felt that these two women should learn how to communicate. Don’t you know you won’t have any friends if you talk like this? One after another, with veiled barbs and soft knives, you’re almost killing me. He really was busy. In such a huge empire, what matter didn’t he have to personally attend to? If a problem were to arise at a time like this, that would be a real injustice!

A few days later, something that not even Fanny had expected happened. The photograph of the Führer in an apron caused a huge sensation in Germany. The Führer’s approval rating among women rose to over 97%. One must know that due to the continuation of the war, the Führer’s support rate among German women had already dropped to 91%.

And the dubbed film, titled “The Führer’s Sunday,” caused a huge sensation in the Berlin film industry. The approachability of the German Führer’s image was so well-received by the citizens of Berlin that it was almost on par with his traditional, uniformed image.

Soldiers! How many updates today? Is the firepower of the Third Reich fierce enough? Let Long Ling also feel the firepower of everyone’s monthly tickets and donations! Fire at me! Fire at me!
