Chapter 160: Filthy Premonition

After checking the items in Kangkai’s necklace, Punk’s expression froze completely—because there was no wooden box!

That’s right, Kangkai’s only storage equipment actually didn’t contain that small wooden box that blocked all perception.

Punk casually tossed away Kangkai’s head and hurriedly emptied everything from the necklace, examining each item one by one.

A few sets of neatly folded spare clothes were stacked together, along with two ordinary sets of half-body light armor gleaming with a faint luster. Then there were some dried rations and a small bag of gold coins. Kangkai’s possessions could be described as meager—not even a single piece of magic equipment.

Most crucially—no wooden box, no wooden box, no wooden box!

Important things must be said three times.

By the time Punk stood up again, his expression was colder than millennia-old unmelting ice.

What had he worked so hard for all this time? Why did he take such great risks to kill Tisha Xia’er? Why did he act so ostentatiously without regard for alignment or reputation?

Wasn’t it all for that mysterious legendary equipment? Now he had killed Tisha Xia’er and slaughtered Kangkai, but the prize that was right at his lips—the legendary equipment—was gone. To make matters worse, he had no idea where Kangkai had hidden it. How could Punk remain calm in such a situation?

Since arriving in this world, Punk had never been so enraged. Now he felt fury burning fiercely in his heart, like an angry fire dragon roaring in the abyss. Any life touched by these flames was destined to face inevitable eternal damnation.

Punk truly never expected that Kangkai wouldn’t carry such an important item with him. Did he trust that single-minded Bahanger? Or did he think digging a hole to hide it would leave Punk helpless?

“Damn you, Kangkai! Do you think this is over? Do you think what I want won’t end up in my hands? Who do you think your enemy is? That foolish dwarf Bahanger?”

Punk gritted his teeth as he picked up Kangkai’s head, staring with surging fury into those lifeless eyes as he spoke each word deliberately.

“No, no, no—I won’t give up so easily. You never understood a mage’s power, and you could never imagine a mage’s methods!”

After speaking these words, Punk’s rage gradually transformed into endless coldness, but the magical vortex in his pupils spun even faster. The anger hadn’t disappeared—it had merely been converted into something far more terrifying than rage: calmness and rationality!

Discarding meaningless fury, he began seriously contemplating whether there were any remedial methods.

As a mage specializing in auxiliary divination, Punk still had one technique he hadn’t used. Soon, he recalled that long-sealed spell—the one that made souls shiver—Foul Divination.

Although the spell appeared utterly bizarre and Punk had originally intended to study it purely as academic research material, now he couldn’t think of any other method to locate the legendary equipment Kangkai had hidden.

Hesitantly, Punk took out the ancient spellbook he had retrieved from the High Priest’s body, slowly running his fingers over the stained cover.Although “Foul Divination” belongs to the school of prophecy magic and serves the purpose of locating certain things or glimpsing the future, it is not a detection-type spell but rather a thoroughgoing communication spell!

According to the ancient Byronic descriptions in the magic tome, this spell allows the caster to offer sacrifices to communicate with “great beings beyond mortal comprehension.” The more sacrifices offered, the higher their quality, and the more vile they are, the more information these “great beings” will reveal to the sacrificer.

However, the “great beings” contacted through such evil-aligned sacrificial spells are usually not known for their pleasant dispositions—take, for instance, the mad demon lords of the Abyss.

At best, those chaotic-aligned demons might take the sacrifices without fulfilling their end of the bargain. If one happens upon a demon in the midst of a frenzy, it might even risk being half-killed by the crystal sphere’s defenses just to slay the sacrificer for no reason. In that case, there would truly be nowhere to turn for help.

Moreover, the requirements for sacrifices are often exorbitantly high. Punk had no idea which “powerful entity” in the multiverse this sacrificial spell connected to!

“Fortune favors the bold. After all, this is the most stable plane in the multiverse. It shouldn’t allow demons and the like to run amok.”

After careful consideration, Punk made up his mind. Legendary equipment was far too precious—he had to obtain it at all costs. Besides, what path to power doesn’t involve risks?

Once resolved, he chose not to feed Kangkai’s lower body to Golem Number One. Instead, he meticulously gathered all the scattered flesh and blood from the White Tower’s hall and stored them in a wooden barrel.

Then, Punk placed the barrel filled with Kangkai’s minced flesh and the “Foul Divination” spellbook into his storage ring.

One crucial component was still missing to cast “Foul Divination”: the sacrifices.

But Punk had already decided on his offerings. Kangkai’s corpse would be one, Bahanger’s corpse another, and along with half the population of Doleiz City… surely that would be enough to investigate the detailed route Kangkai took after returning to Doleiz City?

Punk contemplated this without a hint of emotion.

Although committing such an act would permanently pit him against all good-aligned factions, Punk couldn’t care less. He had already chosen the path of plunder, and in a dog-eat-dog world like Fearun, countless cities were destroyed every day. The Dillon Kingdom was, after all, just a small corner of the world—whatever he did here was unlikely to attract the attention of truly formidable powers!

Most importantly—legendary equipment was far too precious!

Now that Kangkai had been dealt with, there was no reason to spare the three insignificant insects outside, especially Bilan, who was a prime candidate for his precious golem soul transformation.

Step by step, Punk approached the White Tower’s main gate and casually dispelled the sturdy iron door that had isolated the hall from the outside world.

“They didn’t actually think I’d honor some so-called ‘oath,’ did they?”

He muttered coldly to himself.

——————Break——————

Both Dichiduo and Bilan were experiencing time as unbearably slow for the first time. Though only five minutes had passed since Kangkai entered the White Tower, the two waiting outside felt as if five years had dragged by.The steel gate perfectly isolated all sound and light, leaving them no choice but to wait anxiously.

Trembling, Bilan nestled in Dichiduo’s embrace while staring at the heavy iron door. An ominous premonition lingered in her heart. Though Kangkai had entered the White Tower with confident composure, and though Punk had sworn by the Goddess of Magic not to trouble her or Dichiduo, Bilan still felt a dangerous sensation—as if being gripped by an irresistible force.

That despair and cold, heavy boulder pressed relentlessly upon the young girl’s heart, growing heavier with each passing moment.

Dichiduo seemed to notice the trembling of the girl in his arms. He gently kissed Bilan’s forehead and softly comforted her:

“It’s alright, Bilan. Lord Kangkai is an agent of justice. Justice will inevitably triumph over evil—isn’t that how all stories go? We just need to prepare to cheer for Lord Kangkai.”

“Mhm… After Lord Kangkai returns, should we buy a victory Biecah plush bear to gift him? I think…”

Before Bilan could finish her sentence, the gate blocking the White Tower entrance suddenly vanished. A figure holding a spherical object stepped steadily toward the young pair.

One step, two steps—unstoppable and inevitable.

On the hill where the White Tower stood, the last petal of the final orchid phoenix tree gently drifted down…
