Chapter 457: Summon!
“BOOM”!!
“Damn you, Ovakain! Do you want to be turned into dragon steak by Sorsend? Where has your usual wisdom gone?”
Watching Sorsend roar at the rubble pile in the corner of the cave, Punk felt his mood had reached the peak of frustration.
The black dragon before him paid no attention to what Sorsend was doing or planning, nor did he care whether the situation’s development was favorable to himself. The enraged Ovakain was now only frantically casting spells to attack Punk. Even after hearing Punk’s cold reminder, the black dragon, with tears of blood streaming down his face, merely responded with mocking sarcasm filled with rage:
“Aha, so even you damned bastard have moments of worry? What are you afraid of? Are you afraid of death?”
A scattered Dragon Breath spewed from Ovakain’s massive maw, forcing Punk to abandon his plan to intercept Sorsend and instead erect an “Arcane Shield.”
The terrifying dark green energy crashed against Punk’s spell shield like tidal waves. Vast clouds of colorful energy steam nearly formed mist in the cave’s upper air. Countless droplets of corrosive poison deflected by the shield quickly spread and expanded around the cavern. In moments, the battlefield where Punk and Ovakain stood was dyed a bubbling, dark green.
“Ovakain Acidmaw, it seems you mad dragon intend to fight me to the death!”
A flash of crimson light passed through Punk’s icy pupils, his tone quickly turning as frigid as profound ice.
In his view, Ovakain’s determination to let Sorsend summon the Sub-Lord’s Projection was nothing more than a plan to have everyone present die together. But would Punk fear such an outcome?
Long, long ago, Punk had already forgotten what so-called “fear” was. Now that Ovakain wanted to turn the chaotic battle into complete mayhem, Punk would naturally see it through to the end. Truth be told, this was actually the first time he had experienced such disorderly combat. The sensation of every person around being an enemy, every target requiring both defense and counterattack, didn’t bring Punk any tension. Instead, it filled him with a strangely calm pleasure.
“As a spellcaster, I actually have the chance to enjoy the thrill of a death battle… I wonder if this is fortune or misfortune.”
Meeting Ovakain’s bloodshot eyes without hesitation, Punk’s lips gradually curved into a smile. Suddenly raising his voice, he nimbly dodged Ovakain’s dragon claw while shouting to Kane:
“Kane, you hold off this mad dragon! I’ll go teach that bastard Sorsend a lesson.”
“What? You’re ordering me? Why should I listen to you?”
“Shut up! Either obediently come block Ovakain, or let’s gamble on whether the Sub-Lord will continue ignoring you after emerging!”
Quickly finishing his words, Punk didn’t wait for Kane’s agreement to his plan. He directly fired a “Kinetic Blast” at Ovakain’s dragon claw. Then, using the shockwave from the violent kinetic energy, Punk narrowly brushed past Ovakain’s tail and flew toward Sorsend.
“FZZZT!”Although Punk had almost perfectly dodged Ovakain’s tail swipe with his speed, the dragon’s enchanted tail blade still tore off his hood. With half the hood ripped away, Punk’s sapphire-blue hair and pointed half-elf ears were unusually exposed.
“Holy shit! You’re from the Elven Race? Why the hell do you wear a hood all day when you’re this handsome?!”
Kane, who had just agreed to Punk’s plan and was rushing toward Ovakain, nearly stumbled in shock. Having traveled with Punk for so long, Kane only now realized that Punk wasn’t a pure human but a half-elf with pointed ears.
It was worth noting that the Elven Race itself was a rare magical species. Whether elves or half-elves, except for the dark elves who long dwelled underground, most beings with elven blood were unequivocally Lawful good-aligned. Someone like Punk—a half-elf yet ruthless and vicious—was truly uncommon.
“By the undead! Today I’ve not only seen a spellcaster wanting to conquer the Abyss and a good-aligned chromatic dragon, but also a chaotic-aligned member of the Elven Race. And aren’t elves and dragons already rare enough… Damn it, this world must be fucking insane!”
Though shocked by Punk’s race and appearance, Kane only paused briefly.
The Multiverse had sayings similar to “There are all kinds of birds in a big forest.” Even demons could produce “redeemed children” who yearned for goodness, so an insane mage like Punk among the Elven Race was hardly remarkable.
But Punk had no time to acknowledge Kane’s surprise, nor would he explain that he was a half-Ancient Elf rather than a pure ordinary elf.
Punk was still rapidly closing in on Sorsend, though the exposed feeling of his ears without the hood remained deeply uncomfortable. If the hood hadn’t been ruined, he would have immediately put it back on.
The racial revelation was merely a minor interlude in the intense battle. In less than a second, neither Kane—now locked in close combat with Ovakain—nor Sorsend—who had thrown himself onto his Altar—paid Punk much further attention.
Especially Sorsend, who was frantically clearing rubble from the Altar.
As the Altar carved with chaotic runes gradually became exposed, the grim old man’s laughter grew increasingly maniacal and arrogant. With the Abyssal energy boiling within the Altar, Sorsend’s unparalleled confidence and joy drove him to hysterical laughter:
“Ahahahaha! The maw of the Abyss gapes wide for you! Chaos and destruction are unstoppable! Wail, lament, regret, and suffer! Then… greet the great Lord of the Abyss—Athaskatch—with blood and despair! Embrace your pitiful, preordained fate!”
With withered fingers, Sorsend tore away the veil covering the ritual array, his mana and vast amounts of life force pouring into it like a waterfall.
Soon, as Sorsend’s face visibly paled and weakened, an aura of extreme terror began to slowly emanate from the center of the Altar…Those who have never witnessed a Legendary being can never comprehend the terror of existences at the Legendary level—even if what arrives now… is merely a casual Projection from a Legendary Expert.
Just a wisp of aura, just a prelude to the opening of an Abyss passage, this minor interlude before the Sub-Lord’s appearance alone could make Master-Level experts feel as if a basin of icy water had been poured over their heads—this chill was the danger sense of powerful beings, a warning it issued when facing an unbeatable foe. The very existence of this sensation was proof of the might of the entity Sorsend had summoned.
Without doubt and unable to doubt, after sensing that perilous Abyssal energy, everyone—whether Punk approaching Sorsend or Kane and Ovakain already engaged in combat—immediately gained a clear understanding: without question, Sorsend’s summoning had succeeded. A Legendary existence from the Abyss, the Projection of a Sub-Lord of demons… was about to descend!
