Chapter 474: The Story of Vectors – Sorsend

When Sorsend first met Vector, he was not yet the somewhat eccentric Level 19 Peak Spellcaster he would later become. At that time, he was merely a Master-Level Mage who had just reached level 15. Back then, Sorsend still possessed a handsome, youthful appearance, and his radiant smile unmistakably marked him as a promising, outstanding talent with a bright future ahead.

It was only later that Vector learned Sorsend had stumbled upon the history of this desert from a bygone era that had become “legend.” With an almost tourist-like curiosity, Sorsend ventured into this desolate world and fortuitously discovered the Lost Spire of Ebidor.

In truth, Sorsend did not acquire much wealth from this spire buried under sand for millennia. When Ebidor departed, it was evidently not so urgent that precious resources were left behind. By the time Sorsend arrived, the already scarce magical materials in the spire had either never been stored there or had turned to dust over tens of thousands of years.

Ultimately, the only “ruin” where Sorsend found a repository still holding “treasures” was the “junk-filled warehouse” where Vector resided.

Perhaps Ebidor had forgotten about the mountains of scrap stored here, or perhaps the eccentric Legendary Mage had finally overcome his “nostalgia compulsion”… Regardless, the existence of this cluttered storeroom ensured Sorsend did not leave empty-handed. The young Sorsend obtained two crucial treasures from this garbage mountain.

The first was naturally Vector, who was nearly driven mad by millennia of solitude.

At that time, the Magic Raven needed only some verbal persuasion and assurances from Sorsend to unreservedly open its virtual soul core permissions to the outsider “stranger.” Thus, it trustingly acknowledged Sorsend as its “Boss” and successfully departed the lightless junk warehouse with him.

Aside from the Magic Raven—that is, Vector itself—according to Vector’s recollections, Sorsend also retrieved an ancient parchment from the heap of scrap.

This parchment, adorned with numerous eerie crimson patterns, was clearly another of Ebidor’s “mementos.” To a Legendary Mage, it might have been merely an insignificant piece of collected junk, but for a Master-Level powerhouse, it was undeniably a rare “opportunity.”

Since Vector was a third-rate alchemical product utterly ignorant of magic, and Sorsend himself lacked the habit of keeping notes, the secrets of the parchment vanished when Sorsend fully deciphered it and unhesitatingly burned the original to ashes. What Sorsend gained from that parchment and how he interpreted it remain unknown.

It was only through Sorsend’s later soliloquies that Vector learned the parchment contained the Abyssal coordinates of a Demon Sub-Lord. Unsurprisingly, Sorsend, who had just stepped into the Master-Level threshold, became fascinated by the immense power of the Abyss.Sorsend was a freelance spellcaster, unaffiliated with any faction and having no connections to any legendary organizations. This granted him freedom of movement but also condemned him to inevitable poverty and knowledge gaps.

After all, Sorsend had only become a spellcaster by chance after obtaining a spellbook. A mage who had groped his way forward without any teacher’s guidance—how could he possibly comprehend the terror and dangers of the Abyss?

Having witnessed only the potent aspects of Abyssal energy, Sorsend plunged headlong into research about the Abyss. He firmly believed that the “Demon Sub-Lord location coordinates” recorded on that parchment were his greatest opportunity, and that his path to legend would be built upon the formidable power of the Abyss.

Vector, who knew nothing about magic, did not stop Sorsend. It was even more oblivious to the dangers than the fanciful mage. Back then, Vector spent most of its days eating, drinking, and roaming around for fun. Having finally escaped the “dungeon” of the spire, Vector had no desire to bother with what its Boss was researching. It only wanted to patrol the desert and those lovely oases daily; sneaking into cities to play pranks was Vector’s favorite pastime.

It must be admitted that the Raging Wave Desert was indeed a barren wasteland, largely devoid of conflicts involving Master-Level powerhouses. The only small Huaibien Kingdom had maintained peace under the rule of King Tandak.

Thus, the Magical Raven Vector’s carefree life continued uninterrupted for over a thousand years, until one day when Sorsend summoned the raven, which was always wandering outside, to his presence.

At that time, Sorsend assigned Vector its first-ever task—the injection mission for the Abyssal Contamination Suppression Potion.

In truth, the erosion of Abyssal energy on Sorsend had already begun gradually, though it was not as severe then as it would later become.

According to Vector’s memories, Sorsend, who had just cautiously studied Abyssal energy for over a thousand years, still retained ample rationality and a gentle disposition. Although the issue of Abyssal energy could only be temporarily alleviated by monthly injections of the “Abyssal Energy Suppression Potion”—a stopgap measure—Sorsend felt no regret or fear at the time.

“I am a genius spellcaster. I can already see the door to legend slowly opening. Soon… I will obtain that long-coveted Abyssal power. Compared to the destined magnificence of the future, a little erosion is not an unacceptable price.”

Back then, Sorsend was brimming with such confidence, acting as if he had already claimed the entire Abyss for himself. Although Vector keenly detected a trace of madness in its Boss’s laughter, unaware of the severity, it loudly voiced agreement in line with Sorsend’s thoughts.

After such events, the subsequent outcomes need no explanation from Vector to become vividly clear. The ignorant Sorsend had no idea what terrifying realm he was stepping into. Even when he later discovered with horror the abnormality in his soul, by then he had already ventured too far down the path of the “Abyss.” He could only desperately press forward, using copious drugs to maintain his sanity and hunting other Master-Level experts in pursuit of the elusive Legendary realm.

Until this unusual Tender Season, with his lifespan nearly exhausted, Sorsend staked everything on targeting three Master-Level experts who had entered the Raging Wave Desert… What happened afterward, as we all know now!
