Chapter 125: Luo Ying’s Buddhist Nature

In the apocalypse, three things are essential: food, water, and not getting scratched by zombies.

Food was something Jiang Li couldn’t solve for now, but water—and avoiding zombie scratches—he had solutions for.

Water Gathering Technique was the most basic Daoist spell. It allowed one to condense water from the air, requiring very little in terms of cultivation or magical power. The downside, however, was that there’s only so much moisture in the air—it wasn’t an unlimited source.

Once they reached a higher cultivation level, they could learn more advanced spells, including those that transmute other substances into water.

Jiang Li knew plenty of body-protection techniques, but most either required high cultivation or had unsatisfactory effects. In the end, only a dozen or so spells met his standards.

From that short list, Jiang Li selected the Immovable Vajra Mantra.

Just by the name, it was obviously a Buddhist spell. Most Buddhist techniques emphasized insight over power, requiring low cultivation and consuming minimal energy.

As expected, when Luo Zhu was already using Water Gathering Technique to play splash-fights with Brahma Tower, Luo Ying was still struggling to keep his water ball from collapsing.

Luo Ying felt a wave of despair—ever since his rebirth, aside from saving his sister, nothing had gone his way.

Is talent really that important?! he roared internally.

“How did you manage to get the Immovable Vajra Mantra down so quickly?” Jiang Li asked curiously.

“Free of thought, free of desire,” Luo Ying responded, palms pressed together, a faint golden glow radiating from his body, expression calm and detached.

Jiang Li couldn’t explain why, but he felt Luo Ying had a natural affinity for Buddhist arts.

Buddhist cultivation was notoriously hard to grasp. Some slow-witted cultivators couldn’t comprehend it in their entire lives. But Luo Ying had already mastered the Immovable Vajra Mantra—at least, its most basic layer.

Even that was quite rare. At the moment, Luo Zhu was still fumbling around, unable to grasp the method. The protective golden glow on her body hadn’t even fully formed before it collapsed.

When she saw her brother’s success, she poked at him out of curiosity—only to discover the golden glow on his body felt like solid gold foil, firm and unyielding. Even when she pushed hard—oh, wait, she broke it.

Well, she was at Qi Refining Stage 1 now—pretty strong.

This time, Brahma Tower offered Luo Ying a rare moment of genuine help: “Buddhist texts and Buddhist arts go hand in hand. Let me teach you the Scripture of the Vajra King, which complements the Immovable Vajra Mantra. Reciting it in your mind will strengthen your golden body.”

Luo Ying had excellent memory. Brahma Tower’s voice went hoarse reciting it before Luo Ying finally memorized the entire Scripture of the Vajra King.

Under Jiang Li’s continued guidance, Luo Zhu finally grasped the Immovable Vajra Mantra, forming the lowest-grade golden body. Its durability was still weaker than her brother’s.

And… she couldn’t memorize the entire Scripture of the Vajra King.

She brought up her frustration with Jiang Li, who casually replied, “Though it’s not as effective, you could just play it on a recorder.”

…Mr. Jiang, you were definitely sent by the heavens to punish me.

Luo Ying thought back to himself pulling his hair out trying to memorize those scriptures—and silently cried inside.

“Alright, I was joking. A recorder would attract zombies. Just keep practicing at home until you’ve mastered the Immovable Vajra Mantra.”

BOOM—KRAK—

Suddenly, a thunderous round of artillery fire shook the windows, rattling them violently.

“It’s the army!” Luo Ying reacted instantly.

Jiang Li’s Divine Sense could only be used for personal observation—it couldn’t be shared. So Luo Ying had no choice but to peel open the wooden boards over the window and peek out to see what was happening.

In the sky, the flying corpse-whale was under intense bombardment. Its massive body seemed like a perfect target.

“It’s just big—that’s all.” The commander sneered to himself. “It’s slow. Just a larger target. Just a big chunk of walking meat. There’s no way it can withstand modern mechanized firepower.”

Inside the city, survivors were in tears. Hands clasped together, they prayed that the monster would be obliterated by the army’s artillery.

Watching this, Luo Ying frowned. This is bad. That mutated whale wasn’t a sitting duck—he’d fought it before. It could move like a bird.

There was only one reason why it wouldn’t dodge—it didn’t even register the attacks as threats.

Modern weapons, the pride of the military, couldn’t even scratch a Tier 4 zombie.

In his previous life, Luo Ying had been busy dodging zombies during this exact moment. He hadn’t seen this battle firsthand—he only heard later that the army had suffered a crushing defeat.

Now that he was witnessing it with his own eyes, he could already guess what would happen next.

The smoke from the barrage obscured all vision. Radar locked onto the whale’s stationary position, so the commander ordered continued fire.

“Report! Target is descending!”

The commander grinned. “Keep firing. Don’t give it a second to breathe!”

“Yes, sir!”

Booster rockets flared, and missiles launched from their bays. Following pre-set computer trajectories, they arced across the sky and landed precisely on the whale.

Missiles at a max speed of 891 km/h bombarded the target in relentless waves.

“Target is falling from the smoke!”

Soldiers saw the massive whale dropping from the clouds through their binoculars, its fleshy wings folded. Missiles kept hammering it, each explosion deafening, as if condemning the creature for its sins.

Just this one monster had trapped ten million people inside a zombie-infested zone, blocking all rescue attempts. A full third of the survivors were still holding onto hope!

“Wait—no! It’s spreading its wings—it’s flying toward us!”

A soldier spotted the change and shouted.

The whale, seemingly about to crash, suddenly unfurled its wings and slammed them against the ground. The impact stirred up a hurricane-force wind that lifted its massive body.

Mutated, it now measured 100 meters long, but its wingspan stretched a terrifying 300 meters.

It flew low, transforming into a 300-meter-wide war machine, clearing everything in its path.

Skyscrapers were sliced clean through by its wings. Countless survivors hiding inside were pulverized into nothing. The pressure between its wings and the ground launched nearby zombies into the air—only to slam them into paste.

Windows shattered under the sheer force, and survivors in their homes faced one harsh truth: a safe house without windows is no safe house at all…

Wherever the whale passed—human or zombie—all died.

The army was directly in its flight path. Of course they couldn’t stop a thousand-ton body moving at Mach 2. Honestly, there wasn’t a single thing on this planet that could.

A fully equipped mechanized army unit was wiped out by a single whale. And this same scenario? It was happening all over the world.

After clearing out the soldiers, the corpse-whale flew inland.

And there were still seventy or eighty more whales like it.

Luo Zhu watched the entire thing unfold, swallowed hard, and was left speechless by the shock.

It was only Tier 4… and already this powerful just from size alone…

She remembered what Jiang Li had told her—he hoped her brother could eliminate all these zombies within six months.

Luo Zhu looked at the tiny, powerless water ball in her palm and clenched her jaw. I need to take some pressure off my brother. The “Scripture of the Vajra King”? Fine. I’ll memorize it!

Three days later.
The siblings stood ready, fully equipped.

“It’s time to go hunt for brain cores.”
