Chapter 322: Jiang Li, Zero-Star Potential
“Two-Headed Wind Wolf, two-star potential.”
“Iron-Feather Chicken, one-star potential.”
“Blazing Horse, two-star potential.”
“Mountain-Charging Wild Boar, three-star potential.”
The Dark Night Shadow Cat had started things off strong, and the Beast Taming Instructor nodded slightly. This year’s students were summoning stronger Contract Beasts than the last.
Last year, many of the summoned beasts were only one-star in potential. In other words, they were as weak as they appeared, with no room for growth.
Such beasts didn’t contribute much to the war against spirit beasts.
Only two-star and above Contract Beasts could serve as main combat forces.
“It’s a Bloodwing Tiger! Four-star potential!” A white tiger cub strutted out of the glow like it didn’t recognize its own family.
“Wait, the Bloodwing Tiger is supposed to be yellow. This one’s white. And its wings aren’t blood-colored—they’re bone… Could this be a variant species? Bonewing White Tiger?!”
“Bonewing White Tiger? Isn’t that one of the rare types with a high chance of evolving into a five-star Contract Beast?!” Even the Beast Taming Instructor was stunned. He hadn’t expected a student this year to summon such an extremely rare variant.
“You’re Qiu Shi, right?” The instructor checked the student’s identity.
“Yes.”
“Hahaha, good! Very good!” The instructor clapped Qiu Shi on the shoulder and laughed heartily.
“Good luck.” Qiu Shi was Xia Chao’s friend. As Xia Chao stepped forward to summon his own beast, Qiu Shi sneaked him a thumbs-up.
Xia Chao excitedly rubbed his hands together. This was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. If lucky, his life would be perfect from here on out. If unlucky, he’d live a dull, ordinary life.
“Come out, my Contract Beast!”
Light surged as a tall, human-like figure stepped out of the summoning glow.
After completing the summoning, Xia Chao didn’t dare look at what he’d summoned. He closed his eyes and drew the Master-Servant Contract symbol into his palm, then slapped it onto the figure that had emerged.
As the figure appeared, the surrounding summoned beasts instinctively retreated, shrinking back into their masters’ arms.
The primal instincts of animals told them that something terrifying had appeared.
“Human… Zero-star potential… Wait, why did a person come out?” The instructor instinctively rated the summoned being’s potential, but then froze—something felt off.
Xia Chao was dumbfounded. He looked at the Master-Servant Contract on his palm, then at the person who had stepped out of the summoning array.
He hadn’t misread the incantation. The array was correct. Everything had been by the book. So why had the result gone wildly off-script?
This was the first time Jiang Li had been transported to another world in full view of so many people.
He scanned the area with his divine sense, analyzed the language patterns, and quickly grasped the Lingxi World’s tongue.
In the Lingxi World, they’d been using summoning arrays for two thousand years—and never once had they summoned a person.
Qiu Shi thought Xia Chao was a total legend.
“Xia Chao, what did you do?! You actually formed a Master-Servant Contract with a human!” The instructor roared. The most outrageous part—he’d succeeded.
A Master-Servant Contract required mutual consent. Was the person who came out of the array an idiot, agreeing to something like that?
It was a soul-level contract. Once signed, it couldn’t be undone!
“I—I didn’t know I summoned a person…” Xia Chao was on the verge of tears. What the heck was going on?!
“Master-Servant Contract?” Jiang Li noticed the symbol on the back of his hand and found it intriguing.
“Are you an actor?” the instructor asked cautiously, trying to figure out who Jiang Li really was.
Given Lingxi World’s tech level—similar to that of the zombie world—Jiang Li’s ancient-style clothing was definitely out of place.
“My name is Jiang Li. I come from the Nine Provinces World, and I’m the Human Sovereign,” Jiang Li introduced himself confidently. He loved that title.
Sure, he always talked about wanting to retire, but deep down, he took pride in being the Human Sovereign.
The instructor stared at Jiang Li like he was nuts—either this guy was way too deep in character, or he was straight-up crazy.
“Where’s your home? We’ll send you back.”
“Nine Provinces World.”
“… ” The instructor was now 80% sure Jiang Li was a lunatic.
“I—I’m sorry! I didn’t know I was summoning a person!” Xia Chao quickly apologized. Forming a Master-Servant Contract with a person—if Jiang Li decided to hold it against him, his life was over.
“How much money do you want? I… I’ll compensate you!”
“You’ve got it wrong. I wasn’t summoned by you,” Jiang Li said casually. He bent down and picked up a chubby green caterpillar that no one had noticed at his feet.
“This little caterpillar is what you actually summoned.”
A common caterpillar, with zero-star potential.
Xia Chao was convinced Jiang Li was mad at him—and using the bug to mock him.
Jiang Li chuckled and shook his head, tucking the caterpillar away.
“How about this—since you all feel bad about it, just let me live here for a while?” Jiang Li made a simple request.
The instructor wasn’t sure how to interpret Jiang Li’s attitude, so he reported it to the principal. Soon, a response came.
“The principal has approved it. He’s assigned you a double dorm room—you’ll be sharing with Xia Chao.”
Jiang Li waved toward the distance, thanking the principal for his generosity.
The principal flinched. He was a full kilometer away, and had only seen Jiang Li clearly through his phone camera—how had the guy seen him?
Later, Xia Chao tried summoning again, but nothing came out.
He became more convinced than ever that Jiang Li was the one he’d summoned.
…
“You’re Xia Chao, right? Nice to meet you. I’m Jiang Li. I already introduced my background and identity earlier.” Jiang Li greeted him.
“Let’s stay in touch. After all, we’re bound by a Master-Servant Contract.”
Xia Chao’s face turned sour. “Bro, can we stop bringing that up?”
“No can do. It’s the truth—why not mention it? Besides, the Master-Servant Contract isn’t as simple as you think.”
“Judging by your age, Brother Jiang, you’ve probably been through the summoning ritual before. What’s your Contract Beast?” Xia Chao tried changing the subject.
Jiang Li thought for a moment and asked seriously, “Does your world have a creature called the Bai Hongtu Beast? It’s not technically my Contract Beast, but I can summon it anytime.”
“Based on your world’s ranking system, the Bai Hongtu Beast would be seven-star.”
Xia Chao thought Jiang Li was joking again.
“Where are your manners?” Jiang Li suddenly activated a Remote Communication Talisman. On the other end, Bai Hongtu, having heard Jiang Li describe him that way, was furious.
This brat had found another fun world to mess around in.
“If I ask you to come here, will you?”
“Yes.”
“See? Always on call.”
Xia Chao stared in disbelief at the Remote Communication Talisman. He had no idea what kind of high-tech artifact this was.
From his conversation with Bai Hongtu, Jiang Li calculated the flow of time in this world.
Five hundred years had passed in the Nine Provinces, while only 250 had passed in the Lingxi World.
Seeing that Xia Chao still didn’t fully believe him, Jiang Li simply took him on a flight through the sky. Only then did Xia Chao start to accept concepts like the Nine Provinces World and cultivation.
Back in the dorm, Xia Chao was still shaken and gulped hard.
He’d really summoned a damn immortal.
