Chapter 557: Ghosts Scare People, People Scare Ghosts

“This haunted house is quite well-designed, with all the classroom equipment and everything,” Jiang Li remarked with a light laugh, hands in his pockets as he strolled down the corridor.

“J-Jiang Senior, why do I feel this place is a bit cold?” Wen Quan shivered, staying close to Jiang Li’s steps.

“That’s perfectly normal. After all, besides us, this place is full of ghosts. A heavier yin energy presence is to be expected.”

“Also, why are you afraid of ghosts? The Huiming Daoist inside you is a Tribulation Transcendence Stage soul. With him around, what ghost could possibly harm you?”

Wen Quan thought about it and realized this made sense.

Then he stood even closer to Jiang Li.

“…You actually didn’t really understand what I meant, did you?”

The corridor had excellent echo effects—tap, tap… As the two walked through the hallway, they could hear their footsteps clearly.

Jiang Li suddenly stopped walking. Wen Quan didn’t understand why but stopped as well.

Tap, tap…

Footsteps came from behind them. Wen Quan felt his hair stand on end.

Suddenly, someone patted Jiang Li on the shoulder.

“J-Jiang Senior, I’ve heard this story online. They say if you get patted in a haunted house, you absolutely must not turn around, or the ghost will drain your yang energy and make you pass out.”

“Oh, thanks for the reminder.”

Jiang Li executed a perfect shoulder throw, slamming the ghost to the ground.

The two walked past the ghost. Wen Quan even glanced back at it with a look of pity in his eyes.

The ghost lay there utterly bewildered, completely clueless about what had just happened.

“The classroom lights are still on. Let’s go take a look.”

Jiang Li arrived at the classroom and heard clear reading voices. The teacher was writing on the blackboard, creating an atmosphere completely different from outside.

“All the other students have gone home, yet you’re still here cramming like overachievers.”

Jiang Li casually switched off the lights.

“Everyone, go home now.”

The reading voices abruptly ceased. The Language Teacher also froze for a moment.

The Language Teacher hesitated for a while before saying, “Classmates, would you like to attend class? There happen to be two seats available here.”

“No need, my language skills are quite good. If you don’t believe me, you can say the first half of a poem, and I’ll complete the second half.”

For some reason, the Language Teacher instinctively rejected Jiang Li’s suggestion and silently turned the lights back on. “Class will continue.”

After teaching for a while, the Language Teacher asked Jiang Li again, “Classmate, are you tired? If you’re sleepy, you can take a nap.”

Jiang Li actually did yawn. “So even you know your teaching is boring? You’ve spent half the class explaining a single line of poetry.”

Just then, a voice came from outside the door.

“This is really strange. I clearly cut the main power supply, so why are there still classroom lights on?”

The Security Guard stretched his neck and saw Jiang Li and Wen Quan sitting in a classroom full of ghosts. He shouted loudly, “What are you doing? Get out quickly! Everyone in this class died months ago during a field trip—their bus plunged into a reservoir on the way back, and the entire class drowned!”

“Is that so.”

Jiang Li turned his head. His face had turned bluish, his lips purple, his entire body swollen, with water weeds stuck in his hair and his clothes completely soaked.

The Security Guard was so terrified he nearly had his soul utterly annihilated.

“Oh my god!” The Security Guard turned and ran in panic, dashing into the restroom and hiding trembling in the corner of a stall.

After bidding farewell to the room full of ghosts, Jiang Li left with Wen Quan, thoughtfully turning off the lights before departing.

The Language Teacher tried to turn them back on but found that no matter what he did, the lights wouldn’t come on.

The classroom lights had remained on after the main power was cut because they were using a backup generator, which wasn’t affected.

But now, for some unknown reason, the classroom lights completely refused to illuminate.

The Language Teacher’s expression became one of terror.

Jiang Li entered the restroom and turned on the faucet to wash his hands. Countless strands of hair flowed out, entangling his hands. Jiang Li nonchalantly pulled the hair out until no more emerged.

Jiang Li looked up into the mirror. Instead of his own reflection, he saw a woman with a slashed face.

The woman held a small knife and was trying to climb out of the mirror to slash Jiang Li’s face.

So Jiang Li helpfully took a mirror from his storage ring and pressed it perfectly against the restroom mirror, creating a seamless connection.

The female ghost in the mirror could only climb from one mirror to the other, then from that mirror back to the original one.

After Jiang Li left, a bald ghost crawled out from the faucet and pitifully reattached the hair that had been thrown on the floor.

Bang bang bang—

“Anyone in there?” Jiang Li knocked on the first restroom door.

Receiving no response, Jiang Li shook his head slightly and moved to the second one.

Bang bang bang—

“Anyone in there?”

The Security Guard, or rather the Bus Driver, looked terrified, lining up his ten fingers and biting them back and forth repeatedly.

Logically, he was the ghost—ghosts should be scaring people. But for some reason, he found this particular visitor especially terrifying.

Don’t find me, don’t find me, don’t find me…

The Bus Driver silently prayed, but contrary to his wishes, the knocking sound drew closer and closer.

The Bus Driver was so frightened his soul became blurry.

Finally, Jiang Li reached the last restroom stall—exactly where the Bus Driver was hiding.

Bang bang bang—

“Anyone in there?”

The Bus Driver clamped his hand tightly over his mouth, refusing to make a sound.

Jiang Li knocked for a while before giving up, but the Bus Driver still didn’t dare to move.

He looked up at the toilet partition, worried that the other might climb over it.

After waiting for what felt like an eternity without any movement from the other side, the Bus Driver relaxed, thinking the visitor had probably given up.

That made sense—the other was human. How could a human climb over?

The Bus Driver wanted to push the door open and leave, but as his hand reached the lock, he still felt uneasy.

What if the other person hadn’t actually left?

He cautiously lowered his head to peer outside through the gap under the restroom door.

Then he saw Jiang Li also lowering his head, grinning widely with eight teeth showing, staring directly back at him.

“Ghost—!”

The Bus Driver’s heart-rending scream echoed throughout the corridor.

…

“No more ghosts, right?” Wen Qing’er’s heart pounded wildly as she tightly wrapped herself in the blanket, as if the tighter she wrapped, the more security it would provide.

After running from the Bus Driver, she had become completely disoriented, running randomly until she somehow ended up in a dormitory room.

The series of frights had scattered her concentration. She wanted to sleep, but once in bed under the covers, she found she couldn’t sleep at all.

Only a ghost could fall asleep in an environment like this!

Moreover, she kept feeling like someone was in this dorm room, silently watching her. She looked around but found no trace of any ghosts.

Where are they?

Wen Qing’er felt something itchy on her stomach, like bugs crawling on it.

“This place clearly isn’t cleaned regularly. There couldn’t really be bugs, could there?” Wen Qing’er wasn’t particularly afraid of bugs and wanted to lift the blanket to throw whatever it was out.

But when she lifted the covers, she saw a female ghost lying on top of her, looking up at Wen Qing’er with two emerald green eyes that glowed like will-o’-the-wisps.

“Waaah—” Wen Qing’er screamed in terror.

Jiang Li pushed the door open, lifted Wen Qing’er’s blanket, and hauled the female ghost out—the entire sequence flowing as smoothly as floating clouds and flowing water.

Wen Quan secretly curled his lip. Senior Jiang had been standing outside the door for ten full minutes, only entering after hearing his sister’s scream.

All under the noble pretext of “training his sister’s courage.”

Regarding this, Wen Quan could only say: Well played.
