Chapter 69: The Four Plans—A, B, C, and D

At this moment, the Vice Pavilion Master was utterly despairing.

He had a sinking feeling that he might just be the last Pavilion Master of Heaven’s Kill Pavilion.

Just as the Pavilion Master had always reminded everyone: “We’re all just trying to make a living—there’s no need to throw our own lives away.”

Heaven’s Kill Pavilion had a clear motto, prominently displayed in the main hall:

Small business, honest dealings, no assassinations of Tribulation Stage cultivators.

Who the hell had posted this mission? Were they blind?

They didn’t even take assassination requests for Tribulation Stage cultivators—so how the hell were they supposed to assassinate Jiang Li, a Mahayana Stage powerhouse?!

The Vice Pavilion Master stormed down the stairs, his killing intent boiling over. He wanted to see for himself which brainless idiot had dared to issue such a suicidal mission!

At that moment, the disguised Jiang Li was dramatically venting his grievances.

“I’m telling you, Jiang Li is a ruthless tyrant! He slaughters people without a second thought and loves publicly humiliating the wives and daughters of others! A friend of mine—his wife and daughter—suffered the same fate!”

“Name your price! How many Spirit Stones does it take to kill Jiang Li? However many you need, I’ve got them!”

Jiang Li played the role of a man tormented by Jiang Li, someone with nothing left to lose. He kept pulling out top-grade Spirit Stones, making the assassins around him drool.

What a fat lamb!

Even the most expensive job Heaven’s Kill Pavilion had ever accepted wasn’t worth this many Spirit Stones. If they could actually kill Jiang Li…

“Shut up!”

The Vice Pavilion Master had just stepped down the stairs when he heard Jiang Li’s treasonous words. He was so shocked that his soul nearly left his body.

“How dare you slander the Human Sovereign!”

“You really won’t take the job?” Jiang Li narrowed his eyes and pulled out even more Spirit Stones. “Just go after him. Whether you succeed or fail, all of these will be yours.”

Even the Vice Pavilion Master was momentarily shaken by Jiang Li’s extravagance. Just where had this ridiculously rich guy come from? Did he own a top-grade Spirit Stone mine?!

“Not taking it! Get lost!”

The Vice Pavilion Master hesitated for only a split second before recalling how Jiang Li had single-handedly battled against the strongest cultivators at the Immortal Artifact Appreciation Assembly, scaring even Immortal Artifacts into fleeing. He shuddered.

Assassinate Jiang Li?

They were Heaven’s Kill Pavilion, not Suicide Pavilion.

Jiang Li sighed, slowly retrieving the Spirit Stones one by one and placing them back into his storage ring—deliberately taking his time, as if showcasing them to the assassins.

After Jiang Li left, a top-tier assassin whispered to the Vice Pavilion Master, “Should we just go for it?”

The Vice Pavilion Master smacked him on the back of the head.

“Idiot! If we ever dared betray a client, by tomorrow, Tianji Tower would be spreading that information for free!”

Just thinking about Tianji Tower made the Vice Pavilion Master furious. How the hell had they managed to get Jiang Li to inspect their establishment?

Why didn’t Heaven’s Kill Pavilion have that kind of luck?!

—

After leaving Heaven’s Kill Pavilion, Jiang Li intentionally took the darkest alleys, walking for ages.

Yet not a single assassin tried to rob or kill him.

“Are assassins this professional these days?”

Jiang Li had already expected that getting Heaven’s Kill Pavilion to assassinate him wouldn’t be easy.

“That’s why I said the system’s mission wouldn’t be easy to complete.”

—

Jiang Li dropped his disguise and returned to Heaven’s Kill Pavilion.

The Vice Pavilion Master took one look at him and instantly dropped to his knees, trembling in terror. He was convinced that Jiang Li had somehow found out about the assassination request and suspected that the Pavilion had taken the job.

“Human Sovereign! I swear to the heavens, we would never dare accept such a mission! You can ask that bastard from earlier—we didn’t take a single Spirit Stone!”

Seeing how the Vice Pavilion Master looked like he was about to rip his own heart out to prove his innocence, Jiang Li impatiently said,

“That guy just now? That was me. I wanted to experience what it felt like to be assassinated. Now hurry up—try and kill me!”

The Vice Pavilion Master trembled like a leaf in a storm.

He had never heard of anyone wanting to experience an assassination before. Jiang Li was clearly looking for an excuse to wipe out Heaven’s Kill Pavilion!

“Kill me! Now!”

Jiang Li’s voice thundered like a divine decree, shaking the entire hall. His overwhelming blood energy surged like a stormy ocean, threatening to capsize everything in its path.

The Vice Pavilion Master understood Jiang Li’s intent. If he didn’t make a move, he would be the one to die!

Left with no choice, he gathered his courage and attacked.

Vanishing into the shadows, he moved without a sound.

The other top assassins watched as he melted into the darkness—only to find that even with their keen eyes, they couldn’t track his movements at all.

This was the assassination technique of a Soul Formation cultivator. Terrifying.

Like a shark lurking beneath the waves, the Vice Pavilion Master prowled within Jiang Li’s shadow, searching for the perfect opportunity to strike.

Then, he noticed Jiang Li hesitate for a fraction of a second.

Seizing the moment, he struck from behind—his dagger, crafted from pure shadow, aiming straight for Jiang Li’s throat!

Crack!

The dagger shattered.

Jiang Li stood unharmed.

Failing on his first attempt, the Vice Pavilion Master followed the assassin’s code and immediately retreated to a safe distance, making no further moves.

But the system didn’t give any notification.

Jiang Li frowned and rechecked the mission details. He suspected that the key wasn’t just being attacked—it was successfully dodging.

Expressionless, he commanded, “Try again.”

The Vice Pavilion Master felt like he had already used up all his courage in that last attack. Assassinating Jiang Li—the strongest Human Sovereign—was something he could brag about for a lifetime…

Or rather, something that would get him hunted down for a lifetime by Jiang Li’s followers.

Better to never mention it.

But Jiang Li’s tone left no room for refusal. Gritting his teeth, the Vice Pavilion Master gathered his courage once more and launched another assassination attempt.

This time, Jiang Li dodged.

Yet still, the system remained silent.

Jiang Li’s expression darkened. “Are you even trying to kill me?”

The Vice Pavilion Master forced out a fawning smile. “Human Sovereign, I swear—I am giving it my all!”

Then he realized what he had just said and immediately wanted to slap himself.

What the hell was he thinking?! Saying something like that out loud—what if Jiang Li actually believed him?!

Jiang Li gave him a side glance and instantly saw through him.

The system must require genuine killing intent. A fake assassination attempt didn’t count.

Plan A: Hiring assassins to kill himself—failed.

Plan B: Flaunting wealth to tempt assassins—failed.

Plan C: Forcing assassins to kill him—failed.

That left only Plan D.

Pretending to leave, Jiang Li secretly used an invisibility technique and rifled through Heaven’s Kill Pavilion’s assassination records. His eyes narrowed as he spotted some familiar names.

“Target: Qin Luan (Golden Core Stage, Early), Yuan Wuxing (Nascent Soul Stage, Early). Location: Longyin City, Tianyuan Dynasty. Recommended: Class-B assassins.”

“Interesting.”

Heaven’s Kill Pavilion never questioned the reason behind assassination requests, nor who issued them. That meant Jiang Li couldn’t learn those details here.

“Let’s go find Yuan Wuxing. Maybe the assassins will take the opportunity to kill me along the way.”

After all, wasn’t Heaven’s Kill Pavilion famous for eliminating a few extra people just because it was convenient?

With that, Jiang Li actually left the pavilion.

—

“We need to publicize what happened today!” declared the Vice Pavilion Master.

“Are we promoting the fact that you tried to assassinate Jiang Li?” a Gold-rank assassin asked, only to get smacked again.

“Idiot! Of course not! We’ll say that the Human Sovereign personally visited our pavilion, gave us valuable instructions, and kindly taught us advanced assassination techniques!”

The Vice Pavilion Master thought for a moment before adding, “That’s still not enough. Tianji Tower has paintings—we need one too!”
