Chapter 95: Do You Know Who I Am?!
When Jiang Li approached the Mortal World Celestial, she was wrapped up tightly from head to toe, leaving no part of her exposed. She even wore silk black gloves, and her water-like, enchanting eyes were hidden beneath the brim of a black veiled hat.
Jiang Li could tell that these garments had been refined with celestial energy, minimizing her presence to the greatest extent and making her undetectable by divine sense.
Of course, Jiang Li’s divine sense was too powerful to be affected.
If it were anyone else wearing these clothes, they would be completely ignored by passersby—even if they stood in the middle of the street shouting.
Jiang Li’s first thought was that this outfit would be perfect for assassinations.
Even so, the Mortal World Celestial still drew attention. Even if people didn’t notice her appearance or figure, they would notice the elegance in her movements and the captivating sound of her voice.
Still, this was a huge improvement compared to the chaos she would cause by showing her face.
At most, she now appeared to be just an unusually eye-catching beauty.
It seemed she had prepared well for her escape from home. Jiang Li felt slightly relieved—if she had wandered into the city without any disguise, things would have been much more difficult.
“This puppet isn’t worth that much,” the Mortal World Celestial huffed, arguing with a street vendor, trying to reason with him. Clearly, the vendor had no intention of being reasonable.
On the stall were several finely crafted wooden puppets with intricate gear mechanisms inside. A small infusion of spiritual energy could make them move for a long time.
The Mortal World Celestial had taken a liking to a little monkey puppet holding a peach above its head. But she only had a few spirit stones left—if she bought the puppet, she’d be completely broke.
The puppet indeed wasn’t worth that much, but the vendor was shrewd. He could tell that this mysterious woman, wrapped up so tightly, was enamored with the toy. Even if he set the price absurdly high, she would eventually buy it.
And besides, her voice was so beautiful. He didn’t mind haggling just to keep listening to her talk.
I can just make one myself.
The Mortal World Celestial thought to herself. But then she recalled the endless nagging of her juniors, telling her not to waste celestial energy. Refining her clothes with celestial energy to move around conveniently was justifiable, but using it to make a wooden puppet? She could already imagine how much they would scold her.
She didn’t just sneak out for fun—she wanted to prove to her juniors that she was independent and could take care of herself.
“One low-grade spirit stone.” Jiang Li tossed a spirit stone to the vendor.
Seeing Jiang Li’s not-so-friendly smile, the vendor immediately recognized that this was a dangerous man. He quickly handed over the monkey puppet, fearing for his safety if he insisted on overcharging.
The Mortal World Celestial watched as Jiang Li bought the puppet for a tenth of the price she was about to pay.
She thought he was amazing.
“Celestial, have you had enough fun?”
Meeting Jiang Li’s gaze, she mustered her courage and replied, “N-No.”
“Then do you still have any spirit stones?”
“N-No.”
“If you have no spirit stones, what do you plan to do?”
“I—I have a lovely singing voice. I can earn spirit stones by singing.”
She had clearly thought this through carefully, planning to use her strengths to support herself.
Jiang Li rubbed his temples. Thankfully, he had come early. If he had been any later, he might have witnessed a celestial being forced to sing on the streets for money.
If word got out, Immortal Changcun would probably come after him for revenge—only to be beaten senseless in return.
“Can you please not take me back?” The Mortal World Celestial pleaded. Even with the black veil covering her face, Jiang Li could sense her pitiful gaze.
Despite her overwhelming charm, at her core, she was a celestial corpse brought back to life, with no past memories—essentially like a child. In the past three years, she had spent most of her time asleep, with almost no psychological development.
Holy Maiden Jingxin called herself the Mortal World Celestial’s descendant, but Jiang Li suspected the Mortal World Celestial actually saw Jingxin as her elder.
After all, a group of juniors wouldn’t be able to keep their ancestor in check so easily.
Because she placed herself in such a low position, she had been so obedient until now.
Jiang Li sighed inwardly. He knew that keeping her confined in the Pure Land of the Mortal World wasn’t a permanent solution. They told her to stay there and not leave—but in truth, it was imprisonment.
There was no way she could stay there forever. This issue would have to be resolved eventually.
Taking this opportunity, Jiang Li decided to let her explore the world a bit more—to see if it would actually cause problems.
If they kept locking her away in the Pure Land, who knew what might happen? Just getting angry and flying a lap around the Nine Provinces with her face exposed would already be enough to cause a disaster.
“Alright then, let’s play for a few more days.” Jiang Li relented.
The Mortal World Celestial’s face lit up with joy.
With the Human Sovereign accompanying her, she was noticeably more relaxed and open to having fun. Jiang Li patiently explained what she could and couldn’t do.
For example, she could go to tea houses, but she couldn’t drink the tea. She could listen to storytellers, but she couldn’t visit brothels. She could browse shops, and she could bargain, but—
If a shopkeeper refused to haggle, she would get annoyed, turn to Jiang Li for spirit stones, buy the entire shop, and declare herself the owner so she could take whatever she wanted.
By the time they finished walking down the street, she had already become the proud owner of several businesses—a small-time mogul.
Of course, Jiang Li sold them all afterward.
“You want to eat something?”
Jiang Li noticed her constantly glancing at restaurants and food stalls.
He understood. Though she practiced fasting, eating wasn’t just about sustenance. He himself often bought candied hawthorn.
Earlier, he hadn’t let her drink tea because she would have to reveal her lower face, which could lead to unnecessary trouble. But if she wanted to eat, that was a different matter.
Jiang Li booked the highest-tier private suite in an inn for her, then ordered the finest dishes from the best restaurant in town to be delivered there. On the way, he also bought a variety of snacks for her.
As he arrived at the inn, he saw people arguing downstairs.
“What?! No more top-tier rooms? Are you saying my young master has to stay in a lower-tier room?! Do you even know who my young master is?!”
A man was grabbing the innkeeper by the collar, his attitude arrogant.
A burly man, irritated by the arrogance, slammed the table and shouted, “What, is your young master’s skin made of top-grade spirit stones? Or is his flesh made of them?”
A beautiful young woman also chimed in, “Exactly! Is your young master grown from top-grade spirit stones?”
The arrogant man’s face darkened. He sneered, “You dare challenge me? Report your names!”
“Commander of the Human Sovereign Hall, Zhang Konghu.”
“Envoy of the Dharma Body Sect, Li Nian’er.”
The man’s smirk froze. He took a deep breath and sneered, “Do you even know who I am?!”
Zhang Konghu and Li Nian’er exchanged glances and shook their heads in unison.
“Nope.”
They both wondered—was there actually a power stronger than the Dharma Body Sect and the Human Sovereign Hall?
The man immediately turned and left the inn.
Time to scram. Good thing they don’t know who I am.
