Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Don’t Want to Implicate Han Zheng Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Don’t Want to Implicate Han Zheng Meng Chuyue stuffed all potentially useful items she might need before leaving–property deeds, bankbooks, receipts, household registration booklets, utility notebooks–into her space.

The rest–clothes, bedding, furniture, and the like–remained untouched, even though some were rather exquisite and even though they could fit in her space.

Soon, Meng Yinhua arrived.

Meng Yinhua and Meng Wanhua bore a slight resemblance to each other.

In his youth, he was known far and wide as a handsome lad.

Unfortunately, he had put on weight in middle age and now looked like a genial, chubby man.

Unlike Meng Jingfen’s astonishment, he was full of sorrow, his eyes red.

After entering the room, he cried out as he covered his face and asked Meng Chuyue, “How did Wanhua die?

How could it have been so sudden?”

See, this was the normal reaction of a relative.

Although she harbored no affection for Meng Yinhua, Meng Chuyue knew he had genuine feelings for Meng Wanhua.

In a previous life, he had concealed certain matters out of concern for Meng Wanhua’s reputation.

Sniffling, she said, “I don’t know.

The police took her for investigation.”

Meng Yinhua, “…Was she murdered?

Where is the local police station?

I want to go ask about the situation and, along the way, see…

her.”

Meng Chuyue sniffled again, “I’ll go with you.”

Meng Chuyue hadn’t planned on bringing Meng Jingfen along.

Yet, Meng Yinhua thoughtlessly called out, “Jingfen, come with us.”

Meng Jingfen didn’t want to go.

What for?

Besides, once they were gone, she could quietly steal things.

She shook her head, “My legs are weak; I’ll stay home to open the door for Grandma and the others.”

“…”

How heartless, considering how well Meng Wanhua treated her in life.

Meng Yinhua gave her a disappointed look but didn’t insist.

Meng Jingfen was only his niece; he couldn’t control her that much.

Had she been his own daughter, he would have slapped her by now.

Meng Chuyue knew Meng Jingfen was planning to steal from the house.

But not only did she not mind, she was actually quite relieved–she had already thrown the things she cared about into her space.

As for the rest, Meng Jingfen was welcome to take as much as she wanted; the more she took, the easier it would be for Meng Chuyue to shake off the blame later.

Shen Ci, who had been silently blending into the background, heard they were going to the police station and quickly pulled out his car keys, “I’ll drive you guys there.”

Meng Yinhua, “…”

Meng Yinhua examined Shen Ci carefully and asked seriously, “Who are you?”

Shen Ci pursed his lips, about to respond, when Meng Chuyue spoke up, “My boyfriend, he lives across from my place.”

Initially wary of Shen Ci, Meng Yinhua relaxed when he heard he lived across the street and hummed in acknowledgment, leading the way out.

…

The staff at the police station remembered Meng Chuyue and immediately took her to Captain Lee’s office.

Captain Lee handed some examination reports to Meng Chuyue, “According to our findings, your mother indeed didn’t have leukemia, but the injuries on her neck weren’t fatal either.

The deadly factor was the tea in the cup; it contained rat poison.”

“The cup only had her fingerprints, which were logically placed, and besides you and your mother, no other fingerprints or footprints were found in the room.

Coupled with that suicide note, we can still only conclude it was suicide.

However, if you insist, we will continue the investigation.”

Meng Chuyue sighed inwardly.

She was certain that Meng Wanhua was killed by Lin Fangwei.

Only, in her dying moments, to clear Lin Fangwei of suspicion, Meng Wanhua staged a suicide.

Since Meng Wanhua so chose, she didn’t want to interfere.

Moreover, speaking the truth would inevitably lead to recognizing Zhao Sulan.

Honestly, she didn’t care about acknowledging Zhao Sulan.

But she…

subconsciously didn’t want to implicate Han Zheng.

In her previous life, Zhao Sulan didn’t use the child to disturb Han Zheng; he lived a prosperous life on his own, and she hoped this life would be the same.

So, should she just go along with the suicide story?

And what about when Lin Fangwei learns that Meng Wanhua’s leukemia was a “misdiagnosis”?

What would her reaction be?

Would she regret it?
