Chapter 30: Parting Ways; To Meet is to Eventually Part

Chapter 30 – Parting Ways; To Meet is to Eventually Part

Hearing this, Chen Changsheng felt a massive headache coming on.

The world was vast and heavily populated. Where the hell was he supposed to find that girl, Niansheng?

Noticing Chen Changsheng’s deep frown, Yixiu offered a reassuring smile. “Actually, you don’t need to stress over it too much.”

“Martial Aunt is already at Nascent Soul Perfection, just a hair’s breadth away from Soul Formation.”

“With her cultivation, she will thrive no matter where she landed.”

“Speaking of which, how did you suddenly reach the Golden Core realm? I remember your cultivation aptitude being absolute garbage!”

“And Martial Aunt acts like she’s known you forever. Just how old are you?”

Chen Changsheng completely ignored the barrage of questions. Instead, he casually dissolved the restrictions binding the little white wolf, forcing her back into her human form.

With her cultivation restored, Wanyan Yue didn’t flee, nor did she lunge at Chen Changsheng in a suicidal rage. She simply sat slumped in the dirt, staring blankly ahead.

Slowly, silent tears spilled over her cheeks.

Chen Changsheng sighed, rubbing his temples. “Look, why are you crying? It’s not like I’m the one who killed your father.”

“Given the circumstances, you walked away with your life. You should be thrilled.”

The words hit a nerve. Wanyan Yue instantly bristled like an angry cat.

“Why shouldn’t I cry?! The father I loved used me as a pawn, and now he’s dead!”

“If it were you, wouldn’t you shed a single tear?!”

After screaming herself hoarse at Chen Changsheng, she aggressively wiped her eyes. Staring at the ground, her voice dropped to a quiet whisper.

“But… thank you for collecting his body. He may have used me, but he was still my father.”

“Without you, his corpse would have been left to rot in the wilderness.”

Standing to the side, Yixiu awkwardly cleared his throat. “Well, actually, he wouldn’t have been left to rot.”

“Perfected Master Yuhua needs your father’s corpse to extract his bloodline. So, even though Chen Changsheng buried him, there is a ninety-nine percent chance he’s getting dug right back up.”

The air temperature plummeted. Wanyan Yue’s icy, murderous gaze snapped directly onto the monk.

Realizing he had spectacularly failed to read the room, Yixiu slapped a hand over his mouth and obediently backed away into a corner.

Having cowed the monk into silence, Wanyan Yue looked back at Chen Changsheng.

“What are your plans now?”

“Nothing special. I am thoroughly sick of this Cultivation world. I’m going back to my old trade—selling coffins.”

“As for the Daqian Dynasty, I have zero intentions of returning there anytime soon.”

“What about you two?”

Wanyan Yue fell silent in thought before answering.

“Perfected Master Yuhua has seized control of the Night Moon Country. If he is left unchecked, our citizens will face an apocalyptic slaughter.”

“No matter the cost, I must go back.”

Chen Changsheng nodded, turning his deadpan stare to the monk.

“And you?”

“Amitabha!”

“Both the Daqian Dynasty and the Night Moon Country are plunging into an abyss of suffering. As the proverb goes, if I do not descend into hell, who will? This humble monk is willing to sacrifice his flesh to feed the demons…”

“Speak human.”

“I’m going to pack up the Heavenly Buddha Temple and run as far away as possible. Perfected Master Yuhua will definitely exterminate us otherwise.”

Chen Changsheng gave a satisfied nod.

Boom!

Eight heavy wooden coffins slammed into the earth in front of Yixiu.

“These contain the remains of my master and Senior Brothers. Since you’re heading back that way, take them with you on your route.”

“Also, this is the premium feng shui burial plot I selected for them. Just inter them at the coordinates marked on this map.”

Yixiu took the meticulously marked map, then looked at the eight perfectly crafted coffins.

His mouth twitched. “You are far too Proficient at this. Don’t tell me you prepared all of this in advance?”

“Congratulations, you guessed correctly. The day I joined the Shangqing Temple, I began pre-ordering coffins and scouting prime real estate for all my martial brothers.”

“Naturally, that included my master and grandmaster.”

“By that logic… did you prepare one for me, too?”

“Of course. But yours isn’t free. Since we’re old acquaintances, I’ll give you a twenty percent discount.”

Yixiu’s facial features actively contorted.

“Chen Changsheng, I am currently alive and breathing perfectly fine! Isn’t it a bit premature to be picking out my grave?!”

“Pre-planning saves a lot of logistical headaches down the line. It’s not like you’re immortal; your day is coming sooner or later.”

Yixiu: “…”

Damn it, he actually makes a compelling point.

“Wait, I am a Nascent Soul realm cultivator now! It is entirely possible for me to break through to the Soul Formation realm in the future!”

“Do Soul Formation cultivators not die?”

Chen Changsheng’s deadpan rebuttal left the monk utterly speechless.

Yixiu: “…”

I don’t know why, but I lose every single argument with this man.

Realizing it was useless to argue with a professional undertaker, Yixiu silently stored the coffins and the map into his spatial ring.

“Fine, I appreciate the thought. Though it remains to be seen who will be burying whom.”

“By the way, who exactly is this Hundred Defeats Immortal Venerable you mentioned? If his phantom hadn’t manifested in the Night Moon Country, we’d be corpses right now.”

“Care to share a few clues? I wouldn’t mind tracking down this Senior to pay my respects.”

Chen Changsheng waved him off dismissively. “Save your breath.”

“The Hundred Defeats Immortal Venerable is a relic from at least two millennia ago. By now, he’s dead to the point that not even his ashes remain.”

“I stumbled across his empty stone coffin inside the Boundless Secret Realm. It had a few of his deeds carved into it.”

“He originally intended to pass away inside the Boundless Secret Realm, but clearly changed his mind and picked a different venue later on.”

“At first, I just thought the old Senior had found a nicer place to lie down.”

“But after uncovering the terrifying truth behind that ancient bronze hall, I realized the situation wasn’t that simple.”

“I brought the coffin along just to test a theory. I didn’t actually expect it to work.”

Listening closely, Wanyan Yue couldn’t help but ask.

“What would you have done if the Hundred Defeats Immortal Venerable’s stone coffin hadn’t worked?”

“Then I would have dropped to my knees and pledged my undying loyalty to my grandmaster. Look, I sell coffins for a living; that doesn’t mean I want to sleep in one.”

Wanyan Yue: “…”

The logic is flawless, but how can he say it with such a straight face?

She genuinely couldn’t tell if this man was a cold-blooded sociopath or a paragon of loyalty.

Call him cold-blooded, and yet he trekked thousands of miles into the Night Moon Country, braving a situation of Nine deaths and one life, strictly to give his old colleagues a proper burial.

Call him fiercely loyal, and yet he spoke of instantly defecting to the enemy without a shred of psychological friction.

After going over a few more logistical details with Yixiu, Chen Changsheng lazily waved his hand.

“Alright, get out of here. Even if the Immortal Venerable’s stone coffin didn’t finish off Perfected Master Yuhua, it’s going to cause him a massive headache.”

“Now that you know his secret, he won’t dare assassinate you in broad daylight.”

“Keep your heads down, and you might just survive.”

Looking at the incredibly unbothered Chen Changsheng, Yixiu asked in disbelief.

“We are walking back into a literal warzone filled with lethal traps. You aren’t even going to try and talk us out of it?”

“The rain falls, widows remarry, and all living things eventually march toward their end. These are universal inevitabilities.”

“The only difference is whether you check out early or check out late.”

“You chose this path yourselves. Why should I waste my breath trying to stop you?”

“At best, I’ll just offer you an extra discount on the coffins you buy from me!”

Yixiu: “…”

It makes perfect sense, but you really are a bastard.

…
