Seraya tasted faintly of wine.
The thought surfaced and vanished just as quickly.
Simon released the Seed of Pride.
Her weight settled against him all at once, her bare feet finding the floor between his. For a moment she stiffened, as if she had only now realised that nothing was holding her there anymore.
Nothing but him.
Then her hands rose to his chest and gripped the front of his robe.
She kissed him back.
There was no hesitation in it now. The woman who hadn’t known where to put her hands at the door suddenly knew exactly. Her fingers climbed over his collar, along his neck, and buried themselves in his white hair, pulling him down until no space remained between them.
Simon tilted her head back.
The kiss deepened. It was slow at first, then hungrier, her breath hitching each time he drew away only to take her mouth again.
His hand left her neck.
It travelled down her spine, over silk that hid nothing, and settled at the small of her back. Even through the Chaos Wraps, he could feel the heat of her skin.
Seraya shivered.
"Your hands…" she murmured against his lips.
"Too rough?"
"No."
She pressed closer.
Simon let his palm slide lower, over the full curve of her backside, and squeezed. A soft sound escaped her. It wasn’t quite a gasp.
He decided he wanted to hear it again.
His thumb found one strap, and it slipped from her shoulder.
Then the other.
The black silk whispered down her body and pooled around her ankles.
Simon drew back just far enough to look. Lamplight traced her ash-grey skin, and loose silver hair fell over her shoulders and partly over her breasts. The flush on her cheeks had spread down her throat.
She didn’t cover herself.
Instead, her violet eyes held his.
"Are you going to stare all night?"
There she was.
Simon smiled.
"I was considering it."
She tugged at his robe.
"Then it’s only fair."
The charcoal fabric loosened beneath her fingers. She pushed it from his shoulders, and her hands followed the path it left, across his chest and down the hard lines of his stomach.
Her breath caught when she saw the diagonal scar on his chest and the cube in his solar plexus.
Simon didn’t give her time to admire him or to ask any questions.
He lowered his head and pressed his lips to her neck.
Seraya’s fingers dug into his shoulders. He kissed his way beneath her jaw and down to the hollow of her collarbone. His hands moved over the dip of her waist, the swell of her hips, and up to the soft weight of her breasts filling his palms. She arched into his touch with a low, unsteady breath.
Step by step, he walked her backward.
Her shoulders met the wall.
She gasped at the cold stone, then again when his body pressed against hers and trapped her there. One of her legs hooked around his.
His mouth returned to her neck.
"Blackmoon…"
Her voice had become something he had never heard from her. It was thin and pleading.
Her nails dragged down his back.
"Please… I can’t wait anymore."
Simon lifted his head.
Her lips were swollen. Her eyes were clouded, and her chest rose and fell against his.
He had held himself back for decades.
He let go of all of it and inserted his dick into her pussy.
———
The bed groaned beneath them.
Seraya lay tangled in the sheets, silver hair fanned across the pillows. Her fingers were locked in his hair and her legs wrapped tightly around his waist, as though she feared he might disappear. Every breath she drew broke apart around his name.
Neither of them heard the footsteps.
The door swung open.
"Blackmoon, I brought-"
Everything stopped.
Neris stood in the doorway.
She wore a short lavender robe, tied loosely at the waist, and the blue butterfly still rested in her hair. In one hand she held a wax-sealed bottle. It was the one Simon had seen resting alone behind a protective formation in the dining room.
Her eyes went wide.
Then wider.
Simon turned his head slowly. Beneath him, Seraya had gone completely still.
For a long moment, nobody breathed.
Neris’s mouth opened, closed, then opened again.
Nothing came out.
Then her gaze landed on her sister, and her face twisted.
The bottle trembled in her grip as she jabbed a finger toward the bed.
"You… you bitch!"
Seraya flinched.
"You knew!" Neris’s voice cracked. "You knew I wanted him! You knew I was coming here tonight, and you… you…"
She couldn’t finish.
Seraya drew the sheet up over her chest. Slowly, the shock faded from her face, and something else replaced it. Simon had seen that same look in the gardens whenever Neris lost an argument.
A smile.
"The early bird catches the worm, little sister."
Neris turned crimson.
"You-!"
"Enough."
Simon’s voice wasn’t loud. It didn’t need to be.
Both sisters fell silent.
He rose from the bed. Neris’s gaze dropped before she could stop it, and she jerked it back to his face. With a flick of his fingers, the charcoal robe lifted from the floor and settled over his shoulders, though he didn’t bother tying it.
’Fifty thousand high grade Hell Stones,’ he thought.’And this is its first real use.’
He crossed the room.
"There’s no reason to be angry."
"No reason?" Neris looked ready to throw the bottle at him. "She-"
Simon stopped in front of her.
He stood close enough that she had to tilt her head back to hold his gaze. He took the bottle from her fingers, set it on the table beside the door, then placed two fingers beneath her chin and raised it.
Her words died.
He looked into her eyes.
The anger was still there, and so was the hurt, burning bright in all that blue eyes of hers. But beneath both was something she couldn’t hide. Her pupils had swallowed half the colour. Her breaths came short and quick, and when his thumb brushed along her jaw, her lashes trembled.
She wanted him.
She had wanted him since the moment she first saw his horns across the dinner table.
Simon smiled.
"There’s room for one more."
Neris’s lips parted.
Whatever she meant to say, he never heard it.
He kissed her.
She went rigid. Then a small, broken sound escaped her throat, and her hands flew up to grab his robe as though she were drowning.
Simon pulled the tie at her waist.
The lavender robe fell open. Beneath it, she wore nothing at all.
So she had come prepared too.
He slid the fabric from her shoulders and let it drop. Then he bent and trailed his mouth down her throat, over her collarbone, and lower, to the swell of her breast.
Neris’s knees nearly gave out.
He caught her with an arm around her waist.
"Ah… B-Blackmoon…"
Her nails sank into his shoulders, and her next breath left her as a whimper.
A soft laugh came from the bed.
"Don’t keep him by the door, Neris."
Neris shot her sister a glare over Simon’s shoulder. It would have been more effective if she weren’t trembling.
Simon lifted her off her feet.
Her legs wrapped around him on instinct, and he carried her toward the bed. Seraya waited among the tangled sheets, her violet eyes dark, already reaching for them both.
Behind them, the Seed of Pride pushed the door shut.
The lock clicked.
Earlier that evening, Simon had decided that keeping both sisters happy was more exhausting than any battle.
He was about to find out just how right he had been.
