Chapter 182: Logan
The mirror image watched Ace stop writing and store the scanned text in the Magic Diary on the fifth page of the Grimoire. He said to the host body:
“Host, the research on the Magic Item to resist the whispering has a basic framework. However, I have hit a bottleneck on the most crucial part: will reinforcement.
Our two Wizard Knights possess excellent resistance to mental control. Perhaps we can attempt to research the secrets hidden within them.”
Ace stood up, transforming his Grimoire into a book-shaped ring and wearing it on his left index finger. He smiled at the mirror image and said:
“This idea is viable, but these two Knights are our own people. It would be best to guide them to voluntarily ask us for research.
According to the Grimoire’s records, after a Knight forms Heart Force, a unique rune structure forms in their heart, and their overall Inherent Mana also transforms into Heart Force. Their meditation method also seems incompatible, and they cannot cast many spells. Perhaps we can start from this aspect, guiding them to seek our help.”
A hint of a smile appeared on the mirror image’s expressionless face. He said to Ace: “We can slowly guide them while testing the apprentices’ training results.”
Ace looked at the mirror image and said:
“Yes, and I plan to conduct some experiments to improve the meditation method, which just happens to require them as well. Besides that, although the High Tower has not been built, it is necessary to establish the High Tower Wizard School. We need to prepare the textbooks for the first year of the five-year general apprentice class.
The first-year curriculum mainly consists of five courses: Logic, Elementary Mathematics, The Art of Language, Lesser Meditation, and Lesser Runology.
Bayen can serve as the mathematics teacher. Daina can serve as the Logic teacher. We will select a person from the former city-state Citizens to teach language. We will compile the textbooks and teach Lesser Meditation and Lesser Runology separately.”
The next day, Ace summoned Betty’s father, Leon, the current Temporary Chief Magistrate of the Territory Administration Office. He planned to have Leon select an open space in the planned town as the future site for the Wizard School and select an excellent language teacher.
The High Tower could not be built with the current manpower, resources, and magical level, but the education of the apprentices could not be delayed.
Leon observed the road surface and surroundings carefully, walking very slowly, with extreme caution and vigilance. He arrived at Ace’s residence early in the morning. His attire was proper, making him look like a gentleman, showing no trace of his disheveled state from a few days ago.
Upon seeing Ace, he politely and slowly bowed 45 degrees, then slowly straightened up and said:
“Respected Lifetime Archon, our territory’s land reclamation is complete. We are now excavating water conservancy facilities, building latrines, and organizing personnel to collect human and animal waste for composting, following your Ace Estate Five-Year Development Outline.
Because we lack sufficient iron tools, we have organized mining teams to go north to mine iron ore. However, due to Monsters, we lost seven or eight people, and the mining work has stagnated.
I wonder if you could dispatch the noble Wizard Apprentices to clear out the Monsters or protect the mining team?”
Ace frowned upon hearing Leon’s report. He had been too engrossed in experiments recently and had somewhat neglected the territory’s development. The Monsters in the valley were indeed a problem that had to be solved. He said:
“I am aware of this matter. Do not organize mining teams to go to the northern mining area for the time being. Wait until I organize the Wizard Apprentices to clear out the Monsters in the northern mining area and along the way. Once safety is confirmed, proceed with mining.
In addition, there are two more things.
First, leave a large open space in the town planning, far from the central district and residential area. This space will be used to build the future Magic School.
Second, select a person from the existing Reserve Citizens who is proficient in Myths and History, preferably with experience teaching literacy, to serve as the language teacher for the Magic School.”
Leon nodded steadily and said: “As you command, Lifetime Archon.”
He was cheering inwardly. Ace did not look down on him because of the previous incident. Not only did Ace listen to his suggestions, but he also entrusted him with matters involving the Magic School, which greatly encouraged him.
As he withdrew, he thought: My performance today was perfect. I avoided all the gravel, bowed very slowly, and dressed properly. Lord Ace must have seen that today’s me is the real me—mature, steady, and full of wisdom and responsibility!
I can finally gain my social status in the territory, reclaim my family status, and maybe even learn Magic, embarking on a new peak of life!
Just as Leon relaxed his tense nerves, walked out of Ace’s residence, and arrived at a construction site in the settlement, he suddenly heard a cry of alarm.
“Dodge quickly! Dodge!”
He looked back and saw a log, thick enough for two people to wrap their arms around, rolling toward him. Leon had no time to think. He frantically rolled and crawled to dodge, finally jumping onto the log at the last moment. After stepping on the log a few times, he fell to the ground, landing on his buttocks.
He climbed up somewhat disheveled, clutching his buttocks, and said angrily to the working barbarians: “This is dereliction of duty! No dinner for today!”
Leon walked with a limp, clutching his buttocks, ignoring the sorrowful barbarians. He thought fortunately: It’s a good thing Lord Ace didn’t see it. If it wasn’t seen, it doesn’t count as embarrassing. I am still the mature, steady, wise, and responsible Magistrate!
On the other side, Ace had already discovered all this through his perception. He thought for a moment and didn’t go out, muttering to himself:
“Leon is capable, just a bit unlucky. I’ll leave him a shred of dignity and pretend I didn’t know.”
The next day, Leon brought a short old man, about 50 years old, wearing a large hat with a brim extending beyond his shoulders and a gray cloth robe, to Ace’s residence. The old man had small but spirited eyes.
An old man who looks shrewd and capable, was Ace’s first impression.
“Respected Archon, three locations have been selected for the Magic School. Please decide on the final site.” Leon showed no sign of yesterday’s disheveled state. He took out a roll of parchment with the town plan and earnestly introduced the differences between the three locations to Ace.
After roughly asking about the differences between the locations, Ace chose an open space on the west side closer to the valley’s primitive forest as the site for the Magic School. He said to Leon:
“You don’t need to worry about the construction of the Magic School. My apprentices have been idle for too long. I plan to let them exercise a bit. Using Magic to build their own school is a good method.”
Leon naturally had no objection to this. He had originally planned to stop other projects to build the Magic School first. Hearing that he didn’t need to manage it, freeing up a large amount of manpower, Leon was naturally very happy.
Although happy, he still said with a composed expression: “This is Scholar Logan from the Northern March Fortress. He has rich teaching experience and is proficient in the Art of Language, Barbarian Humanities, and the Monster Compendium.”
