Chapter 249: Approaching the Dao
The hooded man continued to mock Ancestar and fought back from time to time.
Ancestar remained unhurried. A trace of coldness flashed in his silver eyes, and the Grimoire on his chest remained scalding hot.
Under Ancestar’s uniform and uninterrupted attacks, the hooded man seemed to panic. Wounds began to appear on his body, increasing in number.
At the same time, with the appearance of each wound, Ancestar’s figure would pause abruptly.
“Even with controlled power, the impact force of this lance charge cannot be underestimated.”
While using Heart Force to recover his body, Ancestar continued his charging attacks. His Heart Force permeated his entire body, greatly enhancing his resistance to impact. This was one of the marvelous uses of Heart Force.
If spells couldn’t be used, a body reinforced with the same level of Inherent Mana couldn’t compare to one-tenth of the reinforcement provided by Ancestar’s Heart Force.
He controlled the force of each impact within a range he could withstand, and finally, he reaped the rewards.
Ancestar watched the wounds on the hooded man’s body multiply bit by bit, watched his injuries worsen, watched his internal organs deform, and watched him become unable to maintain his shadow state. A coldness flashed in the depths of his eyes.
Man and horse as one, continuing like a meteor. Continuous, uniform impacts with the same attack intensity.
Relying on recovery and resistance far superior to the hooded man, Ancestar rammed into him repeatedly in the air like hitting a sandbag.
“You…” The hooded man spat out a mouthful of filthy blood. He was powerless to escape; a cage woven from Heart Force had already bound him.
“Why are you so clear about my abilities? Do you also worship Pain? I curse you. In the future, you will suffer eternal torture in the flames of pain.”
Listening to the opponent’s vicious curse, Ancestar created a hand with Heart Force and ripped off his mask. The moment the twisted face of Bent on the mask separated from the hooded man, it seemed to find release, the expression becoming incredibly relaxed.
Having lost the mask, the hooded man’s hood was pitch-black and empty.
He seemed to have lost the ability to speak, wailing in pain.
Ancestar stared at him coldly and whispered: “Do you really want to know why I know everything about you? I won’t tell you. Carry your questions and pain until death comes.”
Ancestar did not kill the Faceless Man directly but took him back to the Mining Town.
Because the Faceless Man was not just an enemy but a precious intelligence source. His body, soul, habits, and memories were all intelligence on the unknown enemy.
Other Wizard Apprentices and Knight Squires arrived at the Mining Town one after another. Caruso drove his Gargoyle to spread its wings, rushing quickly to the Mining Town. He found Ancestar sitting on his horse at the entrance. Beside the horse was a Heart Force cage trapping the hooded figure.
“What is the situation? Where is Bent?”
Caruso commanded the Gargoyle to land. It hit the ground heavily. He asked somewhat anxiously. He and Bent were both from an Enchantment Apprentice background. Although their relationship wasn’t intimate, there was still camaraderie.
Ancestar did not answer. He took out the Pain Mask in his hand. Illuminated by the silver-white Heart Force, it showed exactly Bent’s expression—a mix of pain, regret, and release.
Caruso jumped down from the Advanced Gargoyle, walked to Ancestar’s side, and stared at the Pain Mask, feeling his eyes moisten.
He closed his eyes, waited a moment, and slowly opened them. Just then, the others arrived.
Ancestar stood at the entrance of the Mining Town, knocked the Faceless Man unconscious, and said to the crowd in a low voice:
“Bent, the Wizard Apprentice stationed in the Mining Town, has heroically sacrificed himself to resist the Believers of Pain invading the High Tower Territory. Before his death, he killed two Believers of Pain and was then brutally murdered by this one.
However, on his deathbed, Bent still informed me via the Grimoire of the intelligence he exchanged for his life. That is why I could easily capture the Believer of Pain. Now, everyone will garrison the Mining Town. I will report the intelligence to the Magic Council and await further instructions.”
Donna was burning with anxiety. She drove her familiar, the Winged Gale Horse, with all her might, stimulating the mount with Heart Force, speeding like a whirlwind.
Eddie sat on his Flying Magic Carpet, carrying the sealed strange monster, slowly falling to the back of the team, murmuring in a low voice:
“Please let nothing happen. Our territory has just started to develop!”
As the sky slowly brightened, they finally arrived at the North Gate of Nightlight City.
After the Monster Siege on the Night of the Waning Moon, the Wizard Apprentices learned from the painful experience and spent a lot of effort researching how to guard this City of Wizards.
The four city walls and the underground waterways were magified and inscribed with defensive and offensive Rune Arrays. A Sensing Tower was erected in the city, capable of sensing and marking supernatural creatures within the entire range of Nightlight City, manned by dedicated apprentices.
On top of the city walls, every three hundred meters stood a Four-Elements Defense Tower, capable of randomly casting Earth, Water (Ice), Fire, and Wind elemental spells using corresponding Casting Materials.
The city gate had not yet opened. Donna and the others waited anxiously for the verification of the Sensing Tower. Surprisingly, several Advanced Apprentices were waiting there.
Donna and the others underwent the corresponding inspections as requested by the Advanced Apprentices. After confirming their identities, they were finally allowed to enter the city.
“According to the decision of the Magic Council meeting, the entire High Tower Territory has entered a State of Emergency without disturbing Lord Ace. Council Member Bayen has gone to the West Tower to initiate the emergency reporting procedure and awaits Lord Ace’s command.”
After the inspection, the solemn and tense expressions of the Advanced Apprentices relaxed slightly. One of them seemed to comfort Donna:
“Respected Council Member, Senior Knight Squire Ancestar has already led people to support the Northern Mining Town. Is there any news?” Donna asked anxiously.
“Ancestar has successfully killed two invaders and captured one. The Magic Council has dispatched two Advanced Apprentices to assist in escorting this important captive.
Since you have returned to the city, go to the Administration Office to complete your mission and rest quickly. You might not have time to rest for a while.”
Donna breathed a sigh of relief, but her heart immediately jumped to her throat. She knew what this meant. If the invaders only entered occasionally and the High Tower Territory hadn’t been exposed yet, it wasn’t a big problem. But if it had been exposed, war was likely imminent.
Just as they were heading to the Administration Office to complete the mission, Bayen finally entered the West Tower.
Since both his soul and body reached the Level 1 Life Tier, Ace found that his perception and observation abilities had increased tremendously. The rune structures inside the Dream Crystal, which were previously indistinguishable and unobservable, were now visible at a glance.
Combined with the 3D rune structure already explored within the Eye of Hallucination, he should have been able to easily compose his first 3D Spell Model. However, he stagnated at this step.
“A 3D Spell Model is completely different from a 2D Spell Model. to use a phrase from my past life, it is approaching the Dao! Rather than calling it a 3D Spell Model, it is better to call it a degradation of a certain Domain Path.”
In the meditation room, Ace reconstructed a 3D Spell Model outside his body, speaking while observing.
