Chapter 283: Sneaking Back

“Your arrangements are very appropriate. The experience of managing the regional Magic Council these past few years has made you much more mature.

“The focus of the next step is to continue excavating natural Mental Overdrive users and slowly spreading Warlocks. Do not rush this matter. First, investigate the reason for Misha’s exposure thoroughly.

“I will stay here for a few more days and leave next week.”

Ace intended to retaliate, to let other Warlock Apprentices know the strength of the Magic Council and have confidence in it; otherwise, many Incompetents (Unawakened) would be deterred by the crackdown of the Punishers organization.

At the same time, the scope of retaliation should not be too large or too flashy. The degree could only be grasped by himself.

While Ace and Warren were discussing, inside the Punishment Office torture chamber.

A basin of cold water was splashed onto Misha’s bruised and battered body. She woke up from her coma and saw her parents, who were also covered in cuts and bruises. Tears flowed uncontrollably from her eyes.

However, she still did not reveal the secret that she was a Warlock Apprentice. Misha had realized that they didn’t know she was a Warlock Apprentice at all; everything was a frame-up, an attempt to torture her into a false confession.

“Aren’t you afraid of the monstrous wrath of the God of Guardians for persecuting the descendants of Crown Milne without cause like this?”

Misha’s father roared with grief and indignation.

“Wrath? We execute punishment on behalf of the God. If we say you are a Desecrator, then you are a Desecrator! Your family has been Incompetents for four generations. You are not Divine Descendants at all, but believers of Devils, vainly attempting to steal the glory of Divine Descendants.”

The iron-faced Punisher said with a hideous smile.

Roars of pain and the sobbing of a woman rang out. The conch on Misha’s chest swayed helplessly.

Meanwhile, the carriage had stopped. On the mountainous terrain by the roadside, Witte and his senior, Mr. Turtledove, erupted into a fierce conflict for the first time.

“Mr. Turtledove, I am very grateful to you for guiding me onto the path of magic, but my fate must be chosen by myself.”

Hearing Witte’s words, flames of anger flickered in Turtledove’s eyes.

“You are a Wizard Apprentice, not a Monster Hunter with only muscles in your brain. You should know that going back is suicide. Moreover, you will drag down the entire organization. More people might be exposed because of your return. This is betrayal!”

Witte lowered his head. He knelt down heavily on both knees and kowtowed to Mr. Turtledove, his face covered in tears.

“I know, I know. But I must go. Misha is very timid; she will be scared. Even if it means death, I want to be with her. If there is a next life, I will repay you and the organization.”

Mr. Turtledove watched Witte’s slowly departing figure, his eyes narrowing slightly. The Spell Model in his hand rose and fell, and finally, he sighed and closed his eyes.

At this moment, four Wizard Apprentices quietly approached the vicinity of the homes of Hel, Goll, and the others.

The three noble youths felt uneasy in their hearts. They eventually gathered together and ran to a nearby tavern to get dead drunk. Several Wizard Apprentices exchanged glances and slowly walked up to them.

Hel and the others felt their vision go dark and lost consciousness.

The Wizard Apprentices transformed the three of them into bricks and brought them to Red Hemp’s mobile hall.

Mr. Red Hemp’s hall was a movable door frame, layered with exquisite 0-Ring Spatial Expansion Rune Arrays. It was the secret mobile base of the Wizard Apprentices.

And today, it became a torture chamber.

Watchdog, who was proficient in Illusion spells, took only twenty minutes to make these three people spill the truth like pouring beans.

Ten minutes later, through the layers of transmission via Grimores, Warren received the investigation results and hurriedly handed them to Ace.

Ace glanced at the situation and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The exposure event that had made the entire Milne regional branch highly tense turned out to be a false accusation incident triggered by jealousy over a lover.

And the shameless Punishers took the opportunity to capitalize on the mistake, treating Misha’s family as Desecrators to fulfill their mission quotas.

Witte was emotionally agitated. Running wildly all the way, he had arrived near the outskirts of Milne City. He panted; night had fallen, and the gates of Milne City were already closed.

Divine Descendants were patrolling in teams. The defenses here were tight.

“Don’t barge in! Let’s wait here. I’ll contact other Wizard Apprentices first to understand the specific situation inside the city.”

Witte looked closely and blurted out, “Mr. Turtledove!”

Wearing a gray cloth robe and an angry face, it was precisely the Intermediate Wizard Apprentice Turtledove.

“Damn it, I really couldn’t rest easy letting you go alone.”

Witte choked up a bit. His lips trembled slightly; he wanted to say something but lost his voice for a moment.

“Don’t make that lovestruck face; it looks disgusting.”

Mr. Turtledove turned his head away as if nauseated and made a retching motion.

Seeing Mr. Turtledove like this for the first time, the depression in Witte’s heart vanished instantly, and he held back a laugh.

Mr. Turtledove took out his Grimore, opened the last page, and communicated with his senior Wizard Apprentice through magic signals. About half an hour later, Turtledove said to Witte:

“The cause of the matter has been clarified. You and Misha appearing together as a couple aroused the jealousy of several noble brats. They originally planned to frame you, but who knew the people from the Punishers organization would be so unscrupulous as to arrest Misha’s entire family directly.

“Damn it, letting you date so ostentatiously!”

The more Mr. Turtledove spoke, the angrier he got, and he couldn’t help but knock Witte hard on the head.

Witte also felt stifled in his heart, but fundamentally, it wasn’t his fault. He was just a young man; wanting to have a romance was normal.

“Two hundred meters to the right of the West Gate is the sewer outlet of Milne City. It is unguarded. We enter from there.”

Mr. Turtledove said to Witte after figuring out the method of entry.

There was no moon tonight; it was pitch black. Witte and Mr. Turtledove activated Lesser Mana Fluctuation Concealment and walked cautiously to the sewer outlet.

Urine, feces, kitchen waste, and all kinds of garbage wastewater mixed together, flowing endlessly from the outlet. Mr. Turtledove, enduring the pungent stench and physical nausea, said to Witte:

“I regret coming back to help you now. Damn it, I should have let you go alone.”

Witte also endured the discomfort and said, “I am very sorry, Mr. Turtledove.”

While complaining, Mr. Turtledove restrained his Mana, pinched his nose, and drilled into the sewage. Witte followed suit and entered the sewage.

They dared not open Mana Crystal protection because Mana fluctuations might attract the attention of Divine Descendants with perception abilities.

After swimming in the sewage for an unknown amount of time, both of them covered in filth and stench, they finally reached the somewhat damp sewer.

They panted heavily and continued walking on the moss. Mr. Turtledove observed the surrounding environment, walking step by step, and finally nodded to Witte.

“We should be out of the Divine Descendant patrol range here. Hurry up and use the Cleaning Spell of Magical Trickery. This sewage is disgusting me to death.”

Mr. Turtledove said to Witte somewhat impatiently.

“But… I don’t know it!”

Witte said to Turtledove, dumbfounded.
