Chapter 389: Union of Seekers

Ace and Nicholas watched the five Kings leave in a sorry state. With this, the High Tower Wizards obtained an opportunity for thirty years of stable development.

In a situation where the Divine Descendants could not be completely eliminated and long-term coexistence was necessary, concluding a truce agreement was a good choice. The five Northern City-States were also severely weakened by this; each state was left with only one Great Hero, meaning they had completely lost their offensive capabilities for the near future.

“Respected Wizard, please forgive my presumption, but why didn’t you kill them and take the opportunity to destroy the five northern city-states?”

After the five Kings had walked far away, Nicholas asked with some confusion.

Ace looked carefully at Nicholas. His handsome and rugged face had become tougher after years of hardship, though one could still vaguely see his once high-spirited demeanor.

Ace sighed and looked up at the sky. Night had fallen, and under the sky full of stars, it felt incredibly lonely.

“Lord Nicholas, my name is Ace, Wizard Ace. You can just call me Ace.

“I also wanted to completely destroy the five northern city-states, but I cannot. According to the intelligence I investigated, in this Civilization Cycle, unless the Abyss or Hell invades, no city-state younger than a thousand years has been destroyed.

“As long as a city-state still holds value to the Deities, once we threaten its existence, we will be greeted by Deity Projections and desperate Divine Punishment.”

Hearing this, Nicholas fell silent for a moment before whispering, “We indeed cannot fight against the Deities. The Gods are too powerful, and the Supernatural path for those without bloodlines is too difficult.”

Ace looked at Nicholas, suddenly smiled, and said seriously, “Why should we fight the Deities? Why should we fight the Gods? Has any Deity publicly declared us Desecrators? Even just now, the great Deity witnessed for us. We are not rebels in the eyes of the Deities.”

Nicholas was somewhat tongue-tied. Ace had indeed articulated a perspective he had never considered. He hesitated for a moment and said with a lack of confidence, “But the Divine Descendant Nobles say we are blasphemous…”

Ace interrupted Nicholas, speaking loudly, “Just because they say we are blasphemous, are we blasphemous? Have we disrespected the Gods? Or did a Deity descend with a Holy Word declaring us Desecrators? Our enemies have never been the Deities, but the Divine Descendant Nobles who use the names of the Deities!”

Nicholas understood the secret history of the previous civilization’s destruction. Emperor Augustin used mechanical symbiosis to break the barrier between man and god, eventually becoming a Demigod and obtaining the natural status to command the human luck of the entire Inner World.

Even so, even though the Emperor possessed power comparable to a Titan Main God, he still could not contend with the twelve natural Titan Main Gods.

“I also know some secrets. Legend has it that Emperor Augustin of the Pre-Civilization obtained great power comparable to a Titan Main God, but he still failed.

“He was suppressed by the twelve Titan Main Gods working together. The continent shattered, turning into the current Old and New Continents and the endless islands in between.

“Because that battle nearly caused the Inner World to collapse, under the will of the Great Source, the God King, representing all existences surpassing Demigods, agreed to the Great Source’s demand: existences above Demigod are not allowed in the Inner World.

“The Deities are not selfless, nor…”

Ace understood Nicholas’s meaning; Nicholas wanted to explain that the Deities were not trustworthy.

Ace smiled faintly, looked at the starry sky, and said softly:

“Do not continue. We haven’t reached the level to threaten the Deities. Just like humans observing ants, right now we are merely interesting ants. The Deities might even give us a push to make things more interesting, to amuse them in their long lives.

“Focus on the present. Making ourselves more interesting and surviving longer on this stage—keeping our eyes on what is in front of us is what we should do.”

Seeing the starlight spilling over Ace, Nicholas felt he looked somewhat sacred and imposing. He couldn’t help but sigh, “You are right. There is no need to worry. Perhaps I will never reach that height in this life. Doing well in the present is the correct principle.”

Nicholas moved his somewhat stiff mechanical body and asked Ace curiously, “Lord Ace, speaking of which, I am very curious about your situation. It might be presumptuous, but may I ask how old you are? I haven’t heard of you in the last few decades.”

Ace looked at Nicholas, his thoughts returning to the moment he saw the diary. Back then, Daina was only seventeen or eighteen, and he was organizing the city-state’s books with Daina, Carter, and the others.

The selfless Teacher Peter had given him the greatest help, expanding the stage of his life as much as possible. Coupled with the selfless help of his seniors, only then did he get the opportunity to organize books in the Public Library.

Without the opportunity to organize books, and without Nicholas’s diary, perhaps he would have been like Logan, hovering at the door of the Supernatural in his old age, unable to find the key to open it.

Nicholas looked at the silent Ace. Invisible fear and an aura of self-supremacy were spreading, making Nicholas shudder. Had he perhaps violated some taboo of this powerhouse?

Nicholas felt uneasy. As this emotion spread, giving him a sense of insecurity that his life was not in his own control, he wanted to leave.

Just then, Ace snapped out of it. He withdrew the aura of fear and supremacy, smiled as warmly as spring sunshine, and said gently to Nicholas:

“I am thirty-four years old this year. It is normal that Lord Nicholas doesn’t know me. Speaking of which, I have read the diary you left behind. The incomplete Wisdom Potion formula you recorded was the key to my Supernatural path.”

Nicholas felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He murmured, “Thirty-four years old… thirty-four years old… incredibly young. Even among Golden Heroes, there are few who aren’t over a hundred.”

Then Nicholas reacted and asked, “You are from Medimus City-State? You read my army diary?”

Ace nodded. He smiled and extended his hand to Nicholas, saying, “I also read the diary where you recorded Hippasus. No matter what, the diary you left helped me open the door to the Supernatural. You are a pioneer on this path, and we are natural allies. I believe the High Tower Wizards and the Fire Stealer Alliance can enter into deeper cooperation!”

Nicholas was in a trance. The death of Hippasus was his eternal pain. That unfinished Pi, that struggling body—it made Nicholas heartache.

He seemed to return to Milne decades ago. Under the moonlight, a young man was muttering while drawing a right triangle with a small stick. The revolution regarding numbers happened on that night.

From then on, numbers included not just integers and fractions, but also a new kind of number—Hippasus Numbers.

Nicholas said with some nostalgia:

“Hippasus… I miss those times so much. No conflicts with Divine Descendants, only the thirst for the unknown, only the persistence for truth.

“Lord Ace, for you to achieve power comparable to a Golden Hero with a mortal body in just thirty-four years, and to create the High Tower that the Divine Descendant Nobles wish to eliminate with the power of one man… compared to your achievements, I feel deeply ashamed.

“As long as you do not disdain us, the Fire Stealer Alliance is willing to cooperate with you. Let the seekers of knowledge and truth in Salia unite!”
