Chapter 435: Echoes

The spell mark on her forehead flickered continuously, twisting the information she received bit by bit. This process lasted for a long time. It wasn’t until deep into the night that Eva finally finished reading Magic.

Her Soul Sanctuary was somewhat unstable. Even if the information was twisted, the runes that represented the reality of the world to a certain extent were hard to twist.

The moment she saw the new runes, her Earth Element spell model oscillated violently, fluctuating constantly, flickering in and out of existence, and then suddenly collapsed.

Eva’s right hand trembled as she pressed her forehead, activating the safety valve spell effect within. A milky white light flashed, and she fainted on the ground.

The moon gradually climbed to the treetops. Eva felt as if her head had suffered a heavy blow. She was lying on the ground in an extremely ungraceful posture, her head pressed tightly against the floor and her hips raised.

“My head hurts so much. I can’t seem to remember anything.”

Eva murmured in a daze. She sat up slowly. The faint pain in her forehead and the dim spell mark reminded her that her memories of the day had been erased; something terrible had almost happened.

Eva lowered her head. Not far away lay a book. The moonlight spilled in through the window, illuminating the name on the cover: Magic.

It was clearly the highest-level journal, yet in her eyes, it looked like a beast ready to devour people. Eva broke out in a cold sweat, trembling all over, gasping for breath.

“So I was almost ‘head-exploded.’ The papers related to the new theory are actually this terrifying. I never thought that to study magic, I would have to pay the price of my life.”

Eva bit her lower lip. A look of determination flashed in her eyes. She entered a meditative state, sinking her mind into her Soul Sanctuary. The thick, earthy-yellow Earth Element spell model was located in the center of her Soul Sanctuary.

Her entire Soul Sanctuary also had a faint grey-earth color. If she truly advanced to an Official Wizard one day, her Soul Sanctuary might have become completely earth-elementalized.

Eva had always believed in the existence of the Four Elements Plane. She longed for her Soul Sanctuary to evolve into a mental imagery world one day, becoming a small Earth Element Plane. But now, this idea was shattered.

She dismantled the heavy Earth Element spell model bit by bit. Amidst the violent turbulence of her Soul Sanctuary, dawn broke.

Covered in sweat, Eva opened her eyes and opened the Magic journal.

A week later, the Phlogiston Theory had swept through the entire High Tower Territory. The Elemental School was the largest school in the High Tower Territory. After paying the price of lives, the remaining members accepted the new theory.

In the Starry Sky Hall of the Magic Castle, groups of advanced wizard apprentices were discussing the Phlogiston Theory.

Chubby Bruce looked excited: “I think Phlogiston is not a specific object, but a category of objects. We haven’t explored the true mystery of Phlogiston yet. This is a great subject worthy of in-depth research.”

Eddie nodded: “Yes, the proposal of the Phlogiston Hypothesis is simply a genius idea. Lord Betty is worthy of being a natural Overclocker, a person destined to be born for magic.”

Eva expressed admiration: “If Lord Logan and Lord Bayen sounded the horn of the new element theory, then Lord Betty is the synthesizer. From nearly having her skull crushed by the new theory to proposing the Phlogiston Theory, thereby gaining feedback from the Great Source and advancing to a Level 2 Life—it’s simply like a classic dramatic reversal!”

The flesh on Bruce’s face jumped: “I think Lords Bayen and Logan mostly destroyed the Four Elements Hypothesis, but they didn’t provide a brand-new path for the Elemental School wizards. Countless Elemental School wizards suffered because of this.”

Eva looked fearful: “Lord Betty, Lord Logan, and Lord Bayen can be collectively called the ‘Skull-Crushers.’ The only difference between Lord Betty and the other two Lords is that she pointed out a path for those whose heads didn’t explode, giving them peace of mind.”

Just as they were speaking, the lively hall suddenly became silent. The three subconsciously looked up and around, seeing two figures that chilled them to the bone.

Short-bearded Bayen and Big-hat Logan—the elderly Skull-Crusher Duo.

The wizard apprentices present fell silent as cicadas in winter, their faces pale as gold paper. Some even screamed and fainted. Several others followed suit, casting Daze on themselves and falling to the floor with a thud.

Logan and Bayen looked at each other. Neither of them expected that they would become figures regarded like fierce floods and savage beasts because of the new theory. With wry smiles, they shook their heads, walked quickly through the hall, and arrived at the door of the West Tower.

They knocked gently on the door of the West Tower. Accompanied by a unique rhythm of mana, the door wriggled slightly and opened slowly after a few minutes.

Ace’s voice came: “Wait in the reception room for a moment; I’ll be there shortly.”

Half an hour later, in the West Tower reception room.

Bayen and Logan held the hot water brought by the small wooden puppets and took a sip. Ace sat on the sofa, smiling at the two: “You came together. Do you have any new discoveries? or have you encountered a bottleneck?”

Bayen bowed slightly to Ace: “Lord Ace sees clearly. We have indeed encountered some problems. Because of the feedback from the Great Source, Logan and I have reached the peak state of Level 1 Life. We should meet the conditions to break through the limit of life, yet we don’t know where the path ahead lies. We came specifically to ask Lord Ace for advice.”

Hearing this, rune structures flickered in Ace’s eyes, and the Eye of Truth was activated instantly.

Under his gaze, Bayen and Logan’s conditions were revealed in minute detail. Physical strength and mental strength both at 99 on the scale—this was a near-perfect peak Level 1 state.

Deep in their souls, there was a glimmer of light, small as a grain of rice but shining brightly. That was the real projection of the Soul Sanctuary in reality.

No matter how grand the Soul Sanctuary was during meditation, it wasn’t very large when manifested in the real world. Even Ace’s mental imagery world was just a ball of dream illusion in reality.

“Relax. Let the projection of my Eye of Truth enter your Soul Sanctuaries.”

A gentle voice sounded in Bayen and Logan’s ears. Immediately after, they felt a strange mana attempting to enter their Soul Sanctuaries.

Bayen and Logan guided this mana, slowly letting it enter their Soul Sanctuaries which existed between illusion and reality.

Inside Bayen’s Soul Sanctuary, a golden eyeball appeared abruptly. This eyeball was entirely composed of runes, golden throughout, seeming capable of seeing through everything.

The golden eyeball appeared near the edge of the space, then leaped to the center, hovering slightly lower than Bayen’s foundational spell model.

Golden light bloomed from the pupil of the eyeball. Bayen felt his whole body trembling as if all his secrets were completely scrutinized. He involuntarily wanted to fight back, wanted to expel that golden eyeball.

Just then, the golden eyeball disintegrated, turning into pure star mana that remained in Bayen’s Soul Sanctuary. Bayen activated his Soul Sanctuary and easily absorbed and converted this mana.

Ace opened his eyes. The gold in his pupils gradually faded. He smiled: “I already understand the obstacle to your advancement.”
