Chapter 458: Chasing Light
Ace stopped his meditative state, opened his eyes, and stood up. White light flashed and disappeared.
With broken silver hair, a pure black magic robe, and a five-ring six-pointed star badge flickering with pale golden light, his figure was slender and his eyes were firm.
“Path of the Divine Domain: The advantage is a permanent foundation. The disadvantage is that domains are limited, and competition is fierce; only one person can climb to the peak.”
A dream light curtain emerged. Noble Phantasms vied for glory, and Demigods bled. At the end of the domain, only one could occupy the supreme position and achieve True God status. Moreover, countless domains were divided into strong and weak. Even if one succeeded in the competition within a domain, they would only be an ordinary member among the gods.
“Path of the Wizard Profession: The advantage is that theoretically, the peak can be reached repeatedly, and achievement is rapid. The disadvantage is Cognitive Solidification. Once the theory is overturned, there is the great disaster of head explosion and death.”
Another dream light curtain emerged. Mathematical symbols, equations, inequalities, and formula deductions appeared. Observation of all things in the world, summarization of laws, proposal of theories—dozens of wizards achieved Sage status.
Just as they were at the height of their power, a new theory roared in. The mental imagery of the dozen Saga Wizards representing the old theory collapsed, and their heads exploded. Brand-new Saga Wizards stepped on their corpses to ascend to god-like status.
Ace’s eyes flickered with cold light. Both paths had their strengths and dangers. He raised his hands high, and the two light curtains slowly merged:
“My path combines the strengths of the new and old paths. Based on the Dream Domain, I can enjoy the benefits of law deduction without suffering the disaster of theoretical innovation and cognitive collapse.”
Thirteen Star Noble Phantasms emerged, shining brightly.
At this time, in a villa by the Luminous Light River in Nightlight City, Warren was debugging a strange instrument. Sulu was scratching his ears and cheeks beside him, wanting to help but unable to do so at all.
Sulu could only listlessly flip through the astronomical observation data recorded by Warren. That string of astronomical numbers made him dizzy, as if he had suffered a sneak attack from a wizard of the Soul School.
“Warren, what is the use of this instrument you are making? I saw you fail several times. If it really doesn’t work, let’s go visit the Grand Wizard Betty together. She is so proficient in mechanics; maybe she can give you some help.”
Listening to Sulu’s words, Warren smiled and shook his head: “This is an epoch-making instrument. I think it might trigger feedback from the Great Source. I only wish to share the research process with you alone.”
Sulu’s face was full of emotion and helplessness: “Although I also really want to get feedback from the Great Source, I am not made for that at all. I haven’t even understood Calculus, let alone help you.”
He idly read Calculus for a while. Limits, derivatives, and derived functions made Sulu’s eyelids fight each other. He couldn’t help but rejoice that he had graduated from the Magic School early.
“The current apprentices are in for it. They have to learn Calculus, and they need ninety points to graduate. I heard it was proposed by that bad old man Bayen.
“Warren, let me tell you, that old man is bad to the bone. He is not a good person.”
As Sulu spoke, his eyelids grew heavy, and he fell asleep leaning against the chair, holding Calculus.
Warren looked back, chanted a spell, and draped a thick blanket over Sulu. He turned around and continued to fiddle with the instrument.
After failing several times, Warren wrote the following passage in his experiment journal:
“Lord Ace’s Magical Mechanics allowed us to successfully see the operation mode of the Inner World universe. Solar eclipses, lunar eclipses, and comets rushing at the moon are no longer mysterious. Tidal phenomena can also be explained by mechanics. We can even calculate the distance, size, and even weight of the Earth Center, sun, and moon!
“To calculate the weight of ordinary items, we naturally use a scale. Small things are weighed with small scales, which are precise. Large things are weighed with large scales, which have sufficient capacity.
“But if this ‘thing’ is the Earth Center, I’m afraid we can’t find such a large scale. Lord Ace pointed out the direction for us. He showed the way forward with extremely concise mathematical formulas—the Law of Universal Gravitation formula: F=G m1m2/r2.”
Under the controllable light ball, beads of sweat were clearly visible on the tip of Warren’s nose, seeming to indicate the owner’s mood.
“If the mass of a small ball on the Earth Center is known, then the gravitational force on the small ball can also be determined. Now, we only need to know the radius of the Earth Center (the distance from the center of the small ball to the ground can be ignored) and that constant G in front of the universal gravitation formula to calculate the mass of the Earth Center.
“The constant G is not only not large, but it can even be said to be pitifully small.
“Therefore, we cannot find a case on the Earth Center where one object moves towards another due to universal gravitation; otherwise, the Inner World would have ceased to exist long ago.
“A suspension wire is a very interesting thing. It takes a large force to break a wire, but to twist a suspension wire, a very small force can do it.
“A Torsion Balance should be able to solve this problem, but the rotation angle of the torsion balance is really too small to measure. This is another difficult problem.”
The sky gradually brightened. The sun had risen as usual. The sounds of children frolicking, cats meowing, dogs barking, and chickens crowing rang out successively. Warren glanced at Sulu, who was sleeping soundly, and shook his head gently.
He closed the experiment journal, walked out of the house quietly, and breathed the fresh air. The morning sun reflected a bright red on the water surface, and the air carried the sweetness of some flowers.
Warren stopped thinking about the damn gravitational constant and instead strolled along the gravel path along the Luminous Light River. Children romped and chased cats, running over. They didn’t know that the person in front of them was a member of the top layer of the High Tower wizards, the 2-Ring Wizard Warren!
Warren looked kindly at the playing children. The High Tower Territory—no, it was now Thoth City-State—children growing up here were raised in a peaceful and affluent environment. The great development of magic brought about a qualitative change, and the wealth of the entire city-state was increasing rapidly.
The good system designed by Ace allowed everyone to find their own place. Under the compulsory basic education and relief system, the entire city-state was full of vitality.
“Didn’t we establish Nightlight City precisely because we wanted to live this kind of quiet life and pursue magical truth wholeheartedly? When I was young, I wasn’t as happy as they are, and it was even harder to strive for supernatural power and explore the mysteries of the world.”
While sighing with emotion, Warren subconsciously watched the playing children.
The children were fighting over a few small mirrors, using the reflection of the mirrors to chase a few kittens. The cats couldn’t see clearly due to the reflected sunlight and fled in panic.
The children chased and laughed happily. This was their rare joy; in a while, they would have to go to public school to learn the dreadful elementary mathematics.
Warren looked at the light reflected by the mirror and suddenly stood motionless. It was as if a thunderbolt flashed through his brain; his thinking suddenly opened up.
“Mirror reflection… Mirror reflection… Light source… If I can…”
Warren’s gaze shone brightly. He suddenly suspended in the air and flew toward his villa. The children were startled and looked enviously at the direction Warren left, trying to chase Warren with the mirror reflection.
