Chapter 522: Summoning Angels
Ace gently rocked the wooden chair, making creaking sounds. He continued: “The entire invasion plan should be divided into three parts. The first part has been completed. I have established a continuous information link between the two worlds. The current goal is the second part: The Dreamwalker descends into the Other World!”
He used a bit too much force, and the chair collapsed with a crash, unable to bear the burden. Fortunately, Ace was proficient in magic and easily maintained a levitating state. He slowly floated to the ground, pointed his right hand at the chair, and said: “Reparo.”
Hum! Mana began to pulse. The chair, which had broken into several pieces, slowly restored to its original state. Ace sat on it and continued outlining the general direction.
“Even after half a year of intelligence gathering, there are still two candidates I haven’t seen. I must go to the palace with Yamila to see them so I can finalize the script.”
Time passed quickly. Early the next morning, Ace put on his long-lost black cloak and the white cat mask printed with thirteen holy radiances. Together with Yamila, they set off towards the palace.
Yamila rode the white horse, while Ace followed by leaping on the eaves.
Around noon, Ace and Yamila arrived at the main gate of the palace. Grand Duke Minster had been waiting for a long time. He performed a half-noble salute to Yamila and then led the two into the Holy Sword Garden.
Here, green plants were everywhere, lush and vibrant. Smelling this natural scent, Ace felt a vague discomfort.
The nature here was not the harmony Ace usually felt, but an indescribable oppression. He initially couldn’t determine where the oppression came from, but when he walked to the withered giant tree and saw the dazzling Holy Sword, he understood instantly.
The blue blood energy in Ace’s chest and the azure blue flame floating above the blood energy boiled at this moment, as if encountering a place of death, almost erupting out.
Threads of Fate quietly sealed his chest, allowing the waves to surge within. Ace’s pupils constricted slightly. He somewhat understood. If he wasn’t mistaken, that Holy Sword was the source of all disharmony.
The radiant and dazzling Holy Light was actually the source of all disharmony. The Blue Bloods claimed to be true humans and direct descendants of the Blue Blood Ancestor. What story was hidden in this?
His goal was to obtain more resources in this world, and the most powerful resources were the Power of Great Source and the Power of Fate. However, this world was very strange. Although he participated in so many events, he surprisingly only obtained the Power of Fate.
Where exactly was the Power of Great Source? This is the foundation of a world. Without the Power of Great Source, this world cannot exist. Where exactly had he overlooked?
While he was thinking, Grand Duke Minster stood under the withered giant tree and said in a resonant voice: “Participants of the King Selection War, upholding the glory of the Holy Sword and the will of the late King, you make your vows here. I, as the witness of the 13th King Selection War, will read the basic rules of the King Selection War to you.
“First, the battlefield range of the King Selection War is Bernada City. Leaving it is considered forfeiting. Second, the opponents in the war are everyone in the Holy Sword Garden except me. Third, the war can only begin the day after the Angel Summoning Ritual is held.”
After speaking, Grand Duke Minster clasped his hands together and prayed to the Holy Sword. Ace felt intense fluctuations of the Power of Fate. The withered giant tree into which the Holy Sword was inserted seemed to be shivering. The candidates also began to pray. The Holy Sword suddenly bloomed with brilliance, turning into six beams flying towards the six candidates.
Ace narrowed his eyes slightly. When he opened them again, he found that every candidate was shrouded in dense Holy Light.
Besides Yamila, the other five candidates were a handsome uncle dressed elegantly, an elegant and noble lady, a burly tough guy, a simply dressed young girl, and an old man.
There seemed to be a disturbance of the Power of Great Source, and it came from that withered giant tree. Ace didn’t have time to investigate or observe his opponents carefully before they were invited out of the palace by Grand Duke Minster.
The Grand Duke’s voice seemed to still echo in his ears: “King Candidates, please summon your Guardian Angels before the stars shine tonight. Once missed, death is not far away.”
Ace and Yamila left the palace vigilantly. Before the time of shining stars passed, the six candidates could not directly attack each other. This was the constraint of the Holy Light, but it didn’t rule out some people using underhanded methods.
The sky was getting dark. Ace and Yamila rode the same horse, communicating in low voices.
“The Deacon Bishop of St. Ivan told me that among the candidates for this King Selection War, apart from me and Kaliana—that little girl—the other four are from the Four Great Royal Families of Hill. These four families have monopolized the throne for two hundred years. All winners of the King Selection War came from the Four Great Royal Families.”
Yamila said with a solemn voice.
“Then let us break the monopoly. The Four Great Royal Families have ruled the Kingdom of Hill for nearly two hundred years. Various injustices and unfair trends within the kingdom have intensified. The poor have no place to stand, the rich live in extravagance, and those in power are obstinate and conceited.
“I believe you are that Righteous King. You can bring reform and realize our common ideal: equality for everyone under the Holy Light, letting clean souls rule this kingdom…”
Before Ace could finish speaking, a sound of piercing the air suddenly came. His detection magic had already discovered that nearly a hundred mercenaries were waiting for them on their inevitable path.
That sound of piercing the air was exactly the simultaneous firing of bows and crossbows. Ace didn’t hesitate at all. He mobilized the power of Holy Light in the mask, turning it into a light shield blocking in front of the two, while saying to Yamila: “There are always people who use crooked tricks. How are such people worthy of being King?”
His figure was extremely fast. The superposition of magic and Heart Fire made Ace nearly invincible in this kind of low-level combat. He didn’t hold back. Fear and Awe instantly controlled the vast majority of mercenaries. Drawing his long sword, he used light magic to simulate the effect of Holy Light.
White light flashed, and heads rolled down in unison, leaving only a few obvious leaders captured by Ace.
While they were regretting in their hearts—blinded by greed to take that person’s money and provoke this pair of fiends—they were stared at by Ace’s eyes and fell into an illusion.
“All King Selection War candidates are on the Mercenary Kill List? That’s really a good way to fish in troubled waters.”
Ace gave them a quick death with one sword stroke, then said to Yamila, who looked unbearable: “We cannot have compassion now. Once we relax, the enemy will think there is an opportunity. They will not only swarm to attack us but also take the opportunity to attack the Old Street where you are!”
Yamila nodded, feeling sorrowful in her heart, and whispered: “This kingdom indeed needs reform. Even the King Selection War has so much chaos. We must ascend to the throne to reform all this injustice!”
Ace felt Yamila’s intention. The new scroll in his chest was already slightly hot, seeming to affirm something. He replied: “Let’s go back quickly and think of a way to summon the angel immediately!”
