Chapter 552: "Field"

Thales stumbled and shook off Warren’s hand, saying loudly: “Wait for me a moment, let me tidy up my appearance.”

After saying that, he hurriedly chanted a spell. With a surge of mana, his magic robe looked brand new. Chanting again, a cool mist swept over him, making him feel as refreshed as if he had just taken a bath.

Thales extended his right hand, reached into his mental imagery world, pinned his Arcane Scholar Badge and Wizard Rank Badge on his left chest, put on his top hat, and only then walked over.

Holding back a smile, Warren grabbed Thales and activated the spell model for Flash. Accompanied by spatial distortion, the two instantly appeared in front of the Central High Tower.

Warren scolded with a smile: “You guy are sloppy every day for the sake of experiments. I thought you didn’t care.”

Slightly nervous, Thales whispered: “Teacher, please don’t say that. It’s my first time attending the Supreme Council review; save me some face.”

Chatting and laughing, the two had already entered the Central High Tower. The wizards of the Magic Council’s Executive Committee inside the tower successively saluted Warren and Thales. They had also already learned through hearsay that Thales would become a member of the Supreme Council.

The Executive Committee was the administrative body of the Magic Council, functioning essentially as a government.

Thales smiled and nodded to everyone. He felt a bit dazed. Although he had fantasized about it countless times, to actually enter the legendary Golden Hall on the top floor of the Central High Tower before even advancing to Legend was simply unbelievable.

Warren and Thales walked into the Golden Hall. The overall structure here was incomparably gorgeous. The ceiling featured a glowing Hexagram pattern. Two people were already sitting there; it was Bruce and Bayen.

The two were discussing enthusiastically. Seeing Warren and Thales enter, they stopped talking and stood up to welcome them.

After waiting for a while, apart from Ace, the other members of the Supreme Council had all arrived.

Thales was still a bit constrained, while the others enthusiastically joked with him. Just then, Ace suddenly appeared outside the door.

Everyone immediately stood up, leaning forward slightly to greet Ace.

With a wave of his hand, Ace flashed and appeared in the main seat. The doors of the Golden Hall slowly closed. Ace said: “Everyone is here. I have two topics today. Do you have any topics to add to today’s meeting?”

Daina and Betty successively stood up and handed their topics to the rotating chairman, Bayen. Bayen looked at them and then said: “I am the rotating chairman, so I will preside over today’s meeting. For the first item of the meeting, let us first welcome the new member, Thales.”

Led by Ace, everyone applauded warmly. Thales hurriedly stood up to express his thanks.

Bayen then said: “From today on, you are a true decision-maker among us High Tower Wizards. The Supreme Council has arranged a permanent secretary from the Executive Committee for you, and a newly built Wizard Tower in Academic City, which should be completed in a few months. For specifics, you can consult your secretary, Ms. Blania.”

Looking around, Bayen said calmly: “Next is the second topic: projecting and invading various worlds. Lord Ace has completed the upgrade and renovation plan for the Eye of the World. From now on, wizards can use the Eye of the World to find worlds and cross over in batches to invade alien worlds.

“According to preliminary tests, a wizard’s spiritual power must reach the standard of a Level 1 Lifeform or above; otherwise, it will shatter during the crossing process. Only when a wizard’s spiritual power reaches Level 2 or above can they create a dream information projection. If a Level 1 wants to cross, they can only cross with their true soul.

“Lord Ace proposes that Level 1 Wizards can only cross to Level 0 Worlds; Level 2 Wizards can cross to worlds below Level 1; Legendary Wizards can use the Kaya World as a channel to cross to Level 2 Worlds; Mythical Wizards can use the Kaya World as a channel to cross to Level 3 Worlds.”

Thales asked somewhat puzzledly: “I have a question. What is the Kaya World?”

Everyone smiled at each other. Bayen said: “You know that wizards come from another world, right?”

Thales nodded. He had read in A History of Wizards that the Holy Light invaded the world and killed the Creator God of this world. His Holiness Ace descended, expelled the Holy Light, recreated the world for a second time, and established the current Wizard World Cluster.

To some extent, His Holiness Ace was the new Creator God of this world. He completely restructured the world on its original foundation.

But as to where the wizards specifically came from, Thales was not clear.

Thales said: “Is the Kaya World the wizards’ original world?”

Ace spoke up: “We all come from the Kaya World, which is a Level 4 World. Different levels of worlds exist in different astral layers. Worlds in higher layers are much more powerful than those in lower layers.

“The ceiling of our Wizard World is Level 4, while the ceiling of the Kaya World is Level 6.

“A Level 4 Demigod can have longevity but cannot be immortal. Only by reaching a true Level 5 can one be immortal and imperishable. As for Level 6, that is even more beyond our current understanding and speculation.

“Actually, both the Kaya World and the Wizard World are our bases. When invading lower-level worlds, we can set off directly from the Wizard World. When invading same-level or higher-level worlds, we must use Kaya as a springboard to ensure safety.”

Everyone had no objections and quickly passed this proposal, passing it down to the Executive Committee to formulate a specific plan.

Then Bayen read out the topics from Daina and Betty, and the discussion ended quickly.

As soon as he walked out the door, Thales heard a nervous but pleasant female voice.

“Your Excellency Thales, I am your secretary, Blania. I am a Second Ring Wizard and have previously been working in the Secretariat of the Executive Committee. This is my resume.”

A frail-looking witch wearing rimless glasses stood there prettily. She looked very young. A large stack of documents hovered beside her, and her hands were placed nervously on her chest.

Thales smiled amiably and asked Blania to take him to understand his powers as a member of the Supreme Council.

In the evening, Blania followed Thales back to Warren’s Wizard Tower. Although Thales told her to go home multiple times, she insisted that a secretary must be on call at all times unless he fired her.

Having no choice, Thales could only let her be.

A month passed. Thales gradually got used to having someone taking meticulous care of him, and he also gradually stopped paying attention to his image, looking very unkempt when deep in experimental thought.

And Blania always looked at him with starry eyes, gently and meticulously managing Thales’s life.

“I finally got to interact with my idol up close. I must, must perform well. Lord Thales is really too charming. How can I make him fall in love with someone as ordinary as me?”

After preparing afternoon tea for Thales, Blania stood aside, thinking gently and hopefully.

Thales didn’t know Blania’s thoughts. He just felt that Blania was very careful and attentive, a good secretary.

Generally, the term for a secretary of a Supreme Council member was ten years, with good benefits. And after the term ended, the Supreme Council members would also arrange a good career path for them.

Thales was still thinking. He didn’t notice the frail and beautiful Blania; his thoughts were all focused on magnetic lines of force. After drinking a few cups of tea, Thales unrolled a magic paper and wielded his pen to write On the Physical Lines of Magnetic Force.

“Magnetic lines of force are an abstract concept, an abstract expression of magnetic force, just like light rays. Since light rays exist, magnetic lines of force can also exist. Even if they exist only conceptually, they still have their significance in aiding our thinking.

“Then how should magnetic lines of force exist?

“In the past, I have described and explained certain magnetic lines of force around a bar magnet, and suggested using such lines to accurately represent the nature, condition, direction, and amount of magnetic force in any region inside or outside the bar magnet. Inside and outside the magnet, physical lines of force do exist, existing in the form of curves or straight lines.

“Electric force acts along a curve; physical lines of electric force exist.

“Whether a wire crosses the lines of force perpendicularly or obliquely, and whether it is along one direction or another, it sums up the force represented by the lines of force it crosses.

…

“I believe magnetic lines of force are not inherent to matter, but belong to space. Matter cannot generate magnetic lines of force, but it can change their distribution.

“I propose four criteria for the physical existence of magnetic lines of force: matter can change the distribution of magnetic lines of force; the existence of lines of force is independent of the object; they possess the ability to transmit force; they propagate in time.

“The space around charged bodies, magnets, and electric currents is filled with a medium, which we might call aether, that can transmit electric and magnetic interactions. These are electric fields and magnetic fields, and the most intuitive description of electromagnetic fields is lines of force.

“Lines of force refer to some imaginary lines in a force field. The tangent to any point on these lines points in the direction of the field at that point, and the number of lines passing through a unit area perpendicular to the field represents the intensity of the field.

“Space should not be empty; it might be filled with some medium. And the concept of lines of force should also apply to all things in a physical sense.

…

“Here we also need to think: light rays have a temporal nature, so magnetic lines of force and electric lines of force should also have a temporal nature. In other words, action at a distance might not apply to electricity and magnetism. Whether we should classify electricity and magnetism under magical mechanics is, I believe, open to debate.”

The Magic Net vibrated. At the world rules layer, the Great Source fed back naturally, and countless powers surged.

Looking at the lightning and thunder outside the window, feeling all things worshipping and paying tribute to Thales, sparks almost shot out of Blania’s eyes. The legendary Great Source feedback—when wizards’ research is on the right path and approaches the truth, the Great Source will provide feedback. So it was actually true.

That surging Source Power, the terrifying perturbations that could be perceived just by being nearby, it was simply unbelievable. Blania’s eyes flashed with a strange brilliance. She was not just worshipping; she also wanted to be like this, to obtain a Great Source feedback.

From this moment on, Blania made up her mind to earnestly study academics. She wanted to seize the opportunity, not just accumulate seniority here, but also enter the hall of academics.

When Thales finished describing the abstract concept of the “field,” he proposed the medium aether, and Source Power also swarmed in. In an extremely short time, the Source Power expanded tremendously. Thales, who was originally at the Golden peak, reached the Legendary realm in an instant. Inside his mental imagery world, a crystal-clear spell model was vibrating.

The Legendary spell model “Electromagnetic Force Field” had formed, and instantly became his foundational spell model and meditation spell model.

Thales’s mental imagery world was filled with lightning and thunder, and magnetic perturbations. This was a world filled with the fantasy medium aether. Various electric and magnetic sources emitted electric and magnetic fields, mutually influencing and interacting with each other.

He controlled the electromagnetic force field, easily flew up, and floated out the window. It was noon at this time. Thales gathered nearby electric charges, using the potential difference to quickly conduct electricity. A bolt from the blue instantly formed, striking the earth with a boom.

The Law Enforcement Squad arrived quickly, but Bayen also came with people from the Executive Committee and quickly resolved the matter.

“Thales, you are truly remarkable. You’ve only joined the Council for a few days, and you’ve already advanced to a Legendary Wizard. Regardless please pay attention to your image when casting spells, fortunately, no one was hurt, otherwise, there would be a lot of trouble.”

Bayen said earnestly and with well-meaning advice.

Thales rubbed his head and smiled naively: “I controlled the voltage well. Hitting the ground allows it to quickly conduct and dissipate. It’s not a big problem.”

Bayen didn’t come for this matter either. He didn’t dwell on it and asked directly: “Any new discoveries? Is there a paper you can let me see first?”

Thales smiled: “I just finished writing a paper, but there’s no empirical evidence. It’s all some thoughts.”

Bayen and Thales entered through the window. Warren was already there, holding Thales’s paper. The two of them leaned close together, staring at the paper and reading.

After a long time, Bayen spat out a mouthful of blood. His mental imagery world had suffered a tremendous shock, almost somewhat damaged.

He was silent for a while and said: “Your Excellency Thales, this ‘force field’ concept you proposed is very good. Even if it’s not the truth, it approaches it to some extent. But regarding action at a distance, I don’t think it can be simply negated.”

Thales replied: “But magnetic lines of force probably cannot exist indefinitely. Light rays will disappear, and electromagnetism will also disappear. Since they have a time limit, it’s impossible for them to exist indefinitely. And this inevitably contradicts action at a distance, because gravity exists all the time.”

Bayen nodded and replied: “So I think this is highly controversial. I suggest submitting it to Lord Ace to see if it should be sealed first.”

The so-called sealing meant not making the theory public for the time being. If it was made public and there was a huge controversy, heads might roll. The concept of the field conflicted with magical mechanics and also violated the basic cognition of many wizards.

Although Ace explained that it was magical mechanics under low-speed macroscopic conditions, many people simply couldn’t realize these differences. They subconsciously constructed their foundational spell models based on magical mechanics.

Bayen’s concern also made a lot of sense. The concept of the force field was actually a huge revolution. If some people couldn’t understand it, it might really be a head-exploding crisis.

In the Central High Tower, Ace quietly finished reading Thales’s paper and said happily:

“I am very gratified. You have transcended the barriers of magical mechanics. In the field of electromagnetism, your achievements are comparable to my achievements in gravity. I think you can become the first Level 4 Arcane Scholar.

“As for this paper, I think the two concepts of lines of force and field can be widely discussed. Even for gravity, there can be abstract descriptions of lines of force, and there can also be a gravitational field.”

Bayen looked somewhat panicked and strongly dissuaded: “Lord Ace, once this is discussed, heads might really roll!”
