Chapter 555: Electrostatic Shielding and Coilgun

After a long time, Blania changed into a lady’s dress. Wearing crystal high heels, she walked out of the room extremely gracefully. Her cheeks still carried a blush, somewhat afraid to look at Thales.

In the past, it was common for Blania to dress even more beautifully than this. Thales used to feel indifferent, being very unkempt. Now, he suddenly felt his current state was somewhat sloppy. Chanting a few spells, he made his whole person look brand new.

Then he coughed twice and said to Blania: “I read your paper carefully. This concept of an ideal incompressible fluid is fantastic, and the related mathematical proofs are even more complete. I propose calling this hypothetical fluid the Blania Fluid, what do you think?”

Blania, blushing and not knowing what to think, desperately picked at the hem of her skirt with her slender fingers. The two stood in a daze like this for a while before Blania finally said: “Lord Thales, let’s go out together.”

As soon as they exited the Wizard Tower, a group of wizards was there to congratulate Thales. Legendary Wizards like Bayen were even more full of smiles, praising him non-stop.

“Thales, you are too outstanding.”

“I…”

“What do you mean ‘I’? I know I’m not as good as you. i’am getting old.”

“You…”

“You are simply a genius. Announce your new discovery.”

“No…”

“It’s not right for you to act like this. Everyone wants to know. Why are you hiding it? Not a single Arcane Point that you deserve will be missing.”

“It’s…”

“Agreeing is the right thing to do. Speak quickly.”

A group of people all talking at once. Even if Thales was covered in mouths, he couldn’t get a word in edgewise for a moment. Watching the usually unkempt Thales so deflated, Blania couldn’t help but let out a pfft of laughter.

Thales was finally able to speak. He almost roared angrily:

“It wasn’t me who triggered the Great Source feedback. It was my secretary, the Level 2 Wizard Ms. Blania. She wrote a paper with decisive influence in the field of electromagnetism!

“Let Blania speak for herself about the specifics.”

Blania took a deep breath, looked around loudly, and said: “I proposed an ideal geometric model to deconstruct Lord Thales’s lines of force. This does not surpass Lord Thales’s genius judgment; it merely adds some mathematical footnotes, responding to everyone’s doubts about lines of force.

“At this time last year, I encountered a group of wizards questioning lines of force and force fields. I was indignant in my heart but speechless because I lacked mathematical proof at the time. But now, we can prove it mathematically and use it to explain various electromagnetic phenomena!

“…”

Blania’s impromptu speech was not long, but it was like a battle horn. Almost all wizards knew it was time to go to the battlefield.

Her own paper was printed in advance as a special supplement of the Magic journal. What followed was a massive amount of discussion by wizards on the concept of lines of force, as well as corresponding applications, interspersed with a small number of incidents of wizards’ heads exploding.

But overall, thanks to Ace allowing widespread discussion, many wizards had theoretical and psychological preparation. They were no longer so fearful and unfamiliar with electromagnetism.

Inside Legendary Wizard Bruce’s Wizard Tower, the sound of discussion could be heard from afar.

Luther was saying loudly:

“Comparing lines of force to an extremely special idealized fluid is indeed feasible. We can use it to explain many phenomena, such as electrostatic action.

“Comparing the source charge q to a source of tubes of force, and the electric field to flow velocity. Then, we can obtain the relationship between the electric field E and distance: E = q / (4πr²).

“Comparing electric potential to pressure. The relationship between the source of tubes of force and pressure is p = km / (4πr).

“According to this relationship, setting k = 1, we can obtain the relationship between electric potential V and source charge: V = q / (4πr).

“The relationship between electric potential and the electric field is E = -dV/dr.”

Allen then laughed: “This is a ready-made supplementary paper. But if you want to publish it, you’d better be quick. I estimate similar ones have definitely jammed the mailbox of Magic.”

Luther shook his head and said: “Too late. I heard from editor friends at Magic that several similar papers have already been received. Talking about this isn’t to publish a paper, but based on this derivation, I researched a magic, ‘Electrostatic Shielding.’ Saying ‘researched’ isn’t quite appropriate; anyway, based on this formula, I successfully constructed this spell model.”

Bruce and Allen were quite interested and gestured for him to cast the magic. Only to see a ball of active mithril gleaming with a metallic color in Luther’s hand. After he activated the spell, accompanied by the rhythm of mana, the active mithril instantly turned into a mesh, enveloping Luther.

Luther said to Allen: “Try it with your electromagnetic magic.”

Allen raised his finger. A single electric arc directly slashed across, sparks flying in all directions, yet Luther didn’t suffer any harm.

He and Bruce couldn’t help becoming greatly interested. The two began to continuously test with magic, gradually increasing the power, but Luther remained unharmed.

Bruce couldn’t help saying: “The function is this strong? Try my Legendary spell, the Fifth Ring Spell ‘Great Thunderstorm’!”

Luther’s face twitched, and he hurriedly begged for mercy: “I surrender. I really can’t defend against this. Theoretically, it can resist all static electricity, but in actual operation, there is a limit. The super-strong voltage of the Legendary level can definitely break the defense.”

Allen’s interest was piqued, and he asked happily: “This magic is very interesting. What’s the principle?”

Luther chuckled: “The literal principle. Do you still remember your ice bucket experiment?”

Not understanding, Bruce said: “I remember. Is there any connection?”

Luther smiled: “The outer shell of a conductor has a ‘protective’ effect on its interior, making its interior unaffected by external electric fields. This phenomenon is called electrostatic shielding. It means that while the surface of the ice bucket is charged, the small ball is not charged.”

Bruce and Allen both slapped their heads and laughed. It turned out to be something they discovered themselves but had overlooked.

Luther then said:

“This must rely on casting materials. And thanks to Blania’s paper, the derived corresponding formulas helped a lot.

“This is a metal shell to prevent electromagnetic fields from entering or escaping.

“An ideal electrostatic shielding cage consists of an unbroken, perfect conducting layer.

“In practice, this ideal state cannot be achieved, but it can be approached by using a fine mesh active mithril screen.

“To achieve the best performance, it should be directly grounded. Theoretically, it can be invincible against electromagnetic fields. But in actual operation, super-high voltage can also destroy all this. However, such destruction is somewhat not worth the loss. At the same rank, it’s almost invincible.”

Bruce and Allen’s expressions were somewhat solemn. If this cage couldn’t be cracked, it would be extremely disadvantageous for electromagnetic wizards. Allen’s eyes suddenly lit up, and he asked Luther to construct another electrostatic shielding cage.

He casually picked up a copper spoon from the dining table, twisted it into a ball of copper, and then the mana all over his body pulsed. The electromagnetic field rapidly condensed and compressed. Runes flickered crystal clear. Soon, a rough electromagnetic magic spell model was constructed, seemingly with an extremely strong direct current eruption.

The copper ball in his hand was already hovering, spinning at high speed and rushing forward.

The speed of that copper projectile was extremely fast, its impact force simply terrifying. In the span of a breath, it pierced through the electrostatic shielding cage constructed of active mithril.

Allen smiled and said: “Solved. If a wizard of the same level cannot use hyper-limit high-voltage electric shocks, they can use my move: electromagnetically accelerated metal projectile!”

Bruce’s expression was neither happy nor sad. He focused his mind for a long time, then suddenly said:

“This is based on Thales’s principle of electromagnetic induction. No matter what method is used, as long as the magnetic flux passing through a closed circuit changes, an induced current will be generated in the closed circuit.

“A wire located in a magnetic field will be pushed by a force when energized. At the same time, if the wire is made to move cutting the magnetic lines of force in the magnetic field, a current will also be generated on the wire.”

Allen nodded, continuing to explain his idea:

“My previous idea was to use magic to create a coil. Actually, if there are corresponding casting materials, the effect should be even better.

“This magic might be better called Coil Projectile Breaker. The formal name: Alternating Current Coaxial Coil Projectile Breaker!

“It is generally composed of an acceleration coil and a projectile coil. Through the interaction force generated by the magnetic field between the two electrical coils, the projectile is accelerated and launched using the force. Theoretically, the limit speed can approach the speed limit of electromagnetism, and we speculate the speed of electromagnetism is the same as the speed of light, which is the speed of light.”

Luther also said with interest: “This idea of yours shouldn’t be the first time, right?”

Allen replied: “Indeed. Actually, I had a similar idea long ago, just that the spell preparation work was too cumbersome. Thanks to Blania’s paper, it helped me greatly simplify the spell mathematically.”

Luther said somewhat dejectedly: “I thought this electrostatic shielding cage I invented super-countered electromagnetic magic. I didn’t expect it to be bypassed by Allen with an unexpected method.”

Allen laughed heartily. Suddenly extending his hand, he pulled a flintlock rifle out of his mental imagery world.

“I was enlightened by this. In the early days of establishing the High Tower Territory, Lord Ace once manufactured a large number of guns and cannons as weapons for mortals to resist monster invasions.

“The structure of muskets and cannons inspired me. A musket uses the kinetic energy of an explosion to limit-accelerate a lead bullet. Our electric force is even more powerful than that and can limit-accelerate! The logic of this structure is actually very simple. As long as there are three parts: energy source, accelerator, and switch, there is no problem.

“The energy source is a magical power generation spell model constructed according to the principle of Thales’s generator. For the accelerator, my idea is a coaxial synchrotron composed of discrete or continuous coil structures. This spell model is actually a composite spell model; it’s simply simulating guns and cannons, creating an electromagnetic version of an electromagnetic projectile launching spell model.”

Bruce and Luther also understood his reasoning. Some magics were just like this. Before piercing the window paper, you feel the other party’s magic is too powerful; after piercing the window paper, you realize the principle is so simple.

Luther also said: “We should prepare corresponding casting materials, and even specialized auxiliary magic items, such as a highly energy-storing magic pile and a converter that instantaneously releases gigawatts of high voltage, or a magic generator that can store energy in an extremely short time.”

Bruce then said: “Theoretically, spell models can solve all problems. But specifically, at the level of a Legendary Wizard, unless you find magical materials of the same level or even Mythical level magical materials, it’s better to study magic deeply and directly use a delicately structured spell model.

“But if it’s an ordinary Golden Wizard, it is indeed better to rely on excellent magic items. This so-called Alternating Current Coaxial Coil Projectile Breaker sounds too awful. Just call it an electromagnetic coilgun.

“These three things—power source, accelerator, and switch—can indeed be assisted by magic items, and the lethality is extremely high. If it can continuously store energy, theoretically, it’s even possible to achieve a Golden Wizard sniping a Legendary Wizard!”

As he spoke, Bruce suddenly felt a wind behind his head. He seemed to foresee that perhaps this kind of spell and corresponding magic items would become the first controlled magic in the wizard world.

Sure enough, Luther’s paper on the electrostatic shielding cage was published without hindrance. But Allen’s paper on the electromagnetic coilgun went through multiple discussions and was ultimately carefully published within a restricted scope.

The Supreme Council issued Order No. 14: Research on coilgun-type weapons and corresponding magical equipment must be registered.

Above the Golden Wizard level, Luther’s Electrostatic Shielding Cage and Allen’s Coilgun became known as the strongest shield and the strongest spear. Corresponding application research also began to be carried out on a large scale.

Ace specially received Allen. The coilgun, which progressed slowly in Ace’s previous life, developed rapidly in the magical world. This also gave Ace a new idea: manufacturing world-class battleship weapons, where the main firepower is the coilgun.

And Allen and Warren were the lead wizards for this project, respectively responsible for manufacturing shipborne weapons and the main body of the battleship.

A week later, inside Thales’s Wizard Tower. The atmosphere between Blania and Thales was still strange. The two would often feel inexplicably awkward and uncomfortable. Thales also began to pay attention to his attire, while Blania was glamorous almost every day.

The two also frequently got together to do research. Thales completely recognized Blania’s academic level and almost didn’t treat Blania as a secretary, even hiring another secretary instead. Although Blania was a secretary in name, she was actually his magic research collaborator.

On this day, like a little housewife, Blania tidied up Thales’s attire. Looking at the handsome Thales, she smiled happily: “Just go to the Central High Tower like this to accept Lord Ace’s award. You are the most handsome Legendary Wizard.”

Thales also smiled. Putting his right hand on his waist, leaving a gap, he said to Blania: “Ms. Blania, would you be my female companion for this award ceremony?”

Blania lifted her long dress slightly and answered very ladylike: “It is my honor.”

Glancing with her beautiful big eyes, she was very happy.

Then she suddenly regretted it in her heart: Did I accept too quickly? Will he think I am not dignified? Will he think I am very frivolous? I should have known to be more reserved, but what if I was reserved and Thales didn’t invite me anymore.

Her expression fluctuated between bright and dark. Although she held Thales’s arm, she looked very stiff. Thales’s heart also skipped a beat: Was the invitation too abrupt and not solemn enough? I should have mentioned it a few days in advance. Perhaps writing a letter would have shown more sincerity.

The two walked to the Central High Tower like this, harboring their own secret thoughts, stealing glances at each other, and feeling apprehensive. People cheered for the two, and meddlesome people even shouted loudly:

“Such a perfect match!”

“This is the union of the arcane!”

…

Various jeering made the two even more uneasy, deeply afraid of offending the other party.
