Chapter 139: Basic Construct, Sentinel Golem

Outside Coldsteel City, the group gathered on a flat stretch of wilderness where the late autumn wind carried a bleak chill that no one bothered to notice.

All eyes were fixed on Nolan and the unremarkable metal sphere in his palm as the group held their breath, tense with anticipation, afraid even the slightest disturbance might disrupt the miracle about to unfold.

Nolan took a deep breath, feeling the cold weight in his hand as excitement surged within him, because this was his first time actively controlling a legendary ancient relic. Now that he had the authority, however, he had no idea how to activate it, so after a brief hesitation, he cleared his throat and spoke solemnly, “Korlotis, activate core!”

A few dry leaves lifted in the wind and settled again, and aside from that faint rustling, nothing happened. The intricately patterned sphere remained dark and lifeless in his palm, no different from an ordinary stone, and the atmosphere quickly turned awkward.

“My lord… why isn’t anything happening?” Rehanna whispered, while Vivi tilted her head and murmured that perhaps he simply hadn’t found the right method yet, though she still believed it should work.

Nolan’s face twitched as he realized how foolish he must have looked, and although the thought of blood activation crossed his mind, he dismissed it immediately as too crude for Tyrian design.

A flash of insight struck him then, and recalling their obsession with intelligence and efficiency, he wondered if the answer lay in mental power.

Earlier that morning, he had already sensed that his mental strength had increased more than tenfold, becoming something far beyond what it used to be.

Mental power was a peculiar ability—distinct from magic talent—formed from willpower that could be trained, allowing one to sense emotions, influence them, or even create simple illusions, though it rarely had structured combat use. Because of this, aside from scholars or niche specialists, almost no one deliberately cultivated it, and Nolan himself had always ignored it as impractical.

That changed during the three years he was trapped in Qroshu’s dying mental world, where endless darkness, loneliness, and despair tempered his will into something unbreakable.

It was also why the artifact Immovable Bulwark responded not to his nerves but to his unconscious mental output, allowing it to act automatically.

With that realization, Nolan focused his mind and extended his will into the core.

The reaction was instant as violet light flared across the ancient patterns, and the sphere rose from his palm to hover in the air.

Nolan stepped back, watching with anticipation, only for the core to remain suspended there like a softly glowing lantern with no further change.

A headache crept in as he silently complained about the Tyrians’ brilliance lacking any sense of usability, and with no other ideas, he shrugged helplessly at the others.

“First time using it. Not very familiar.”

Ailindel’s clear voice broke the moment as she suggested he try issuing a direct command, recalling that she had seen Tyrians do exactly that.

Nolan’s eyes lit up, and focusing again, he sent his intent through the invisible connection, requesting a response.

This time the core answered, its glow pulsing rhythmically as a faint but real mental link formed, and a new interface appeared on his territory panel.

【Omnipotence Core “Korlotis”】
【Authority: Lord Commander (Legion)】
【Current Energy Reserve: 4% (Low)】
【Mode: Standby】
【Available Commands: Energy Absorption, Basic Construct, Full-Power Construct, Matrix Construct, Link Mode…】

Now that he had clear feedback, Nolan silently took back his earlier criticism and immediately issued his first command after noticing the low energy.

Energy Absorption.

A deep hum followed as a powerful suction force erupted from the core, drawing surrounding elements like subjects answering a king’s call while the wind grew chaotic and the ground trembled faintly.

Renee gasped at the overwhelming elemental fluctuation, while Leus frantically recorded everything, declaring it the true essence of alchemy as he watched the phenomenon unfold.

As a child of wind, Ailindel sensed even more clearly how the elements were no longer free but being forcibly drawn inward, and noticing Nolan remained unaffected, she realized the core would not harm those recognized as allies.

Under everyone’s stunned gaze, the patterns lit up one by one as the energy steadily climbed from five to seven to nine percent before stopping at ten.

Seeing the absorption reach its limit, Nolan muttered to himself but quickly decided it was enough.

Taking a steady breath, he sent out the command he had been waiting for.
