Chapter 519: What Does It Mean to Be Brothers?

Perhaps over the past 1500 years, the core of the Lord of the Mist’s will had passed through many users, and they had repeatedly purged his regenerating flesh to prevent his resurrection. But clearly, the previous user of the Miracle Will was now gone.

Without a user to cleanse it, the Lord of the Mist’s flesh and blood slowly reformed, eventually coalescing into a brand-new body, allowing him to successfully resurrect.

This reminded him of Three-Tailed.

In essence, Three-Tailed was also a lifeform created by a miracle.

The difference lay in their origins: Three-Tailed was a lifeform derived from a miracle, while the Lord of the Mist was the master of the miracle itself.

Your speculation isn’t necessarily correct. There’s another possibility: after changing hands multiple times over 1500 years, the Miracle Will finally encountered a foolish master. This fool recklessly wielded the Miracle Will’s creative power, unaware that each use was a bargain with a demon. His consciousness was gradually devoured by the Lord of the Mist, and his flesh and blood became nourishment for the Lord’s rebirth.

Like a silkworm in its cocoon, the Lord of the Mist was reborn within his previous user’s body, awaiting the moment to emerge. However, before the rebirth process could fully complete, he encountered you. As a result, you forcibly broke open his “flesh cocoon,” prematurely interrupting his resurrection. It was like pulling up a seedling to make it grow faster, forcing him out before his time. This is why Old Mist’s memories haven’t fully recovered.

“That makes sense. Your theory is perfectly logical,” Feng Qi nodded in agreement.

I have to say, meeting Old Mist again after 1,500 years is quite a stroke of fate. Who knows where he’s been all this time, following countless users? He might have even participated in brutal racial wars. It’s just that his last user happened to appear in Star City, making our reunion incredibly unlikely.

So hurry up and claim kinship! Tell him, “I’m your dad!” Then this system will finally have a grandson!

Feng Qi: ……

Ignoring the Narrator’s rant, he turned to the Lord of the Mist, who looked utterly bewildered.

“Old Mist, we’re brothers. Don’t you remember?”

The Lord of the Mist frowned slightly, as if rummaging through hazy memories, searching for any trace of recognition.

After a moment of stunned silence, he sighed.

“I can’t recall anything. I seem to have lost most of my memories.”

“Then what can you remember?”

Feng Qi decided to continue probing, hoping to extract more information from Old Mist.

“I only remember sleeping for a very long time. Each time I felt I was about to awaken, a force would erase me, plunging me back into slumber. I have no idea how long this cycle lasted… When I finally woke up, I found myself encased in this heavy shell.”

“Just now, you shattered my shell,” the Lord of the Mist said, gesturing to the fragmented pieces scattered across the ground.

Hearing this, Feng Qi felt a pang of shame.

No wonder the Lord of the Mist had harbored such intense murderous intent toward him when it emerged from the shell.

This contradicted the Narrator’s earlier assumptions.

It wasn’t that Feng Qi had shattered the stitched-together body, prematurely awakening the Lord of the Mist. Rather, the Lord of the Mist had already awakened within the previous Miracle Will user’s body and had repurposed the user’s remains as its shell.

“Are you my brother?” the Lord of the Mist asked curiously, a flicker of confusion in its blinking purple eyes.

“Do you even understand what ‘brother’ means?” Feng Qi countered, intrigued.

“My memories are hazy, but that doesn’t mean I’m stupid… You claim to be my brother, but where’s your proof?”

The Lord of the Mist’s tone, the sinister glint in his eyes, and his cautious approach to questions were all exactly as Feng Qi remembered.

In response to the inquiry, Feng Qi smiled and said, “I know you can transform into mist. Can you prove it?”

“Transform into mist?” The Lord of the Mist paused briefly, then raised his right hand. Instantly, his hand dissolved into mist and dispersed.

This ability was as natural to the Lord of the Mist as breathing, an instinct rooted deep within his being.

The moment Feng Qi mentioned it, the Lord of the Mist instinctively recalled how to mistify his body.

“That alone isn’t enough,” Feng Qi continued. “If you were my enemy, you’d likely know about my mist transformation ability too.”

“You also taught me how to absorb qi blood. Can you prove that?”

As he spoke, Feng Qi patted Suction Cup’s small head nestled in his arms, then pointed to a bird-like creature soaring in the distance. “Suction Cup, fetch that for me.”

“(o▽)o Okay!”

Suction Cup nodded vigorously, then wriggled free from Feng Qi’s embrace.

Landing on all fours, she was enveloped in a flowing jade light and vanished from sight, sprinting toward the bird-like creature.

Her frantically moving limbs blurred into phantom images as she ran, kicking up a swirling cloud of dust. The terrifying power contained within her tiny body erupted forth.

A long dragon of sand and dust stretched toward the black bird-beast below.

The bird-beast in the sky seemed to sense the impending danger, flapping its wings frantically to gain altitude.

At that moment, Suction Cup leaped into the air.

The explosive force of her jump shook the ground, sending a shockwave sweeping outward through the sand and dust.

A fierce wind quickly reached Feng Qi and the Lord of the Mist, the swirling sand obscuring their vision.

After a brief moment of surprise, the Lord of the Mist waved his hand.

Dense qi blood surged from his body, dispersing the sand and dust with a gentle sweep.

When the dust settled, Suction Cup had already returned.

Her left hand gripped the black bird-beast by its slender neck, dragging it across the ground. With a delighted expression, she looked at Feng Qi and raised her left hand:

“(ω) Feng Qi, big goose… yummy!”

“Such incredible physical strength,” the Lord of the Mist exclaimed in astonishment, seemingly unable to believe that such terrifying power could be contained within Suction Cup’s petite frame.

Ignoring the Lord of the Mist, Feng Qi accepted the bird-beast from Suction Cup.

With a swift motion, he grabbed it.

His fleshless, bony fingers easily pierced the bird-beast’s defenses, seizing its heart and crushing it.

As the creature died, a crimson mist visible only to Feng Qi rose from its body and flowed into him.

With his qi blood partially replenished, Feng Qi’s thoughts raced. Flesh and blood rapidly regenerated across his body, and in the blink of an eye, he had returned to his human form.

The Lord of the Mist scrutinized Feng Qi’s drastically altered appearance, a sudden, intense sense of familiarity washing over him.

The face felt deeply familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before, yet he couldn’t quite place it.

Still, the feeling persisted—a primal recognition etched into his very being, so profound it made him feel suffocated.

“You feel so familiar… but I can’t remember who you are. For some reason, your face makes me uneasy,” the Lord of the Mist said.

“Why uneasy?” Feng Qi asked, his curiosity piqued.

How could he not be uneasy? The last thing Old Mist saw before his death was your face, followed by endless darkness. That memory would be deeply ingrained. Even after resurrection, the lingering unease is just a remnant of that final moment.

Hearing the Narrator’s explanation, Feng Qi understood.

Seeing the Lord of the Mist’s bewildered expression, Feng Qi immediately abandoned any hope of extracting crucial information about the future world.

He had initially hoped to glean vital insights from the Lord of the Mist, but now realized it was a futile endeavor.

The current situation was that the Lord of the Mist was probably even more confused than Feng Qi himself.

Continuing the conversation would be a waste of time. It would be better to focus on strengthening his own abilities.

This brother… we’ll catch up next time.
