Chapter 498: Kane's Plan
When speaking of his own opportunities, although Kane’s tone remained filled with strong confidence and pride, he had no intention of revealing too much information on this topic. Without waiting for Punk to react further, the quickly topic-shifting Kane immediately said:
“This lord thinks you should have guessed some things, Punk. Now let me make it clear—that’s right! Not only have I obtained the method to Summon the Divine Kingdom Gate, but I’ve also found a God-Blooded descendant with the bloodline of the Crimson Sand God!”
“One? What do you mean by that? And according to what you’re saying… haven’t you already obtained both the ‘gate’ and the ‘key’? If that’s the case, why come to meet me? I don’t recall you being a charitable person with a sharing spirit.”
Hearing Kane’s somewhat ambiguous statement, Punk couldn’t help but frown and raise questions.
From the information Kane had revealed, the Divine Kingdom Gate of the Crimson Sand God required a specific magic array to summon, and this array along with information about the Crimson Sand God had been obtained by Kane. Meanwhile, the lock to this treasure vault’s door required the bloodline of the Crimson Sand God to open, and this bloodline was undoubtedly held by the Crimson Sand God’s Godchild.
If that were the case, and Kane clearly claimed he had obtained the method to summon the gate and found a Godchild, then shouldn’t Kane be able to directly enter the God Realm to retrieve the treasure? Why would he need to travel thousands of miles to the Thought of Truth Branch to talk with Punk?
Furthermore, what caught Punk’s attention the most was the quantifier Kane used—”one”!
This was rather strange!
Did the Crimson Sand leave behind more than one Godchild? Or did opening the gate require multiple bloodline sources?
Without continuing to voice his questions, Punk simply stared intently at Kane with his cold pupils. He knew this scheming knight must have a reason for coming to him, and Punk was waiting for Kane to resolve this confusion.
Having reached this point in the conversation, Kane had no intention of continuing to beat around the bush. After all, he was the one seeking Punk’s participation in the plan, and without sufficiently detailed answers, this cautious mage would never take risks without good reason.
Therefore, after hearing Punk’s questions, the composed knight immediately provided a detailed explanation:
“Tsk tsk tsk! This lord knew you’d ask that. This matter is quite troublesome to explain… Hmm, where to begin?
Let me put it this way—perhaps to avoid reviving dozens of ‘selves’ during resurrection, the Crimson Sand God indeed left behind only one bloodline back then. The ‘gate’ it designed was also only meant to be opened by the holder of the complete bloodline. According to the ancient records I obtained, when the Crimson Sand God’s Godchild opens the gate and inherits the divinity placed within the God Realm, this ‘Godchild’ becomes the new ‘Crimson Sand God’ and gains control over the entire God Realm.”However, note… the prerequisite for achieving this is possessing the “complete” bloodline of the Crimson Sand God. The Godchild I’ve found so far has an incomplete bloodline. I suspect the bloodline fragmented during its 300,000-year inheritance, splitting into several parts scattered across the northern central region of the Faerûn Plane, centered around the Red Sand Sea. Therefore, to seek the treasure now… we must first reassemble the key. We need to help the Godchild we’ve already found fuse the fragmented bloodlines of the Crimson Sand God.”
To prove his words were true, Kane scratched the back of his head sheepishly and added in a low voice:
“To be honest, I still don’t know exactly how many bloodline fragments are out there. I tried searching alone before, and to improve efficiency, I specifically hired a spellcaster skilled in Divination Spells…”
When mentioning “hiring the spellcaster,” Kane’s tone turned gritted with anger:
“…But that bastard dared to trick me! He claimed someone in the Raging Wave Desert was establishing a Cult to gather faith, supposedly to activate the Crimson Sand God’s bloodline. Yet all I found was that brain-dead lunatic Sorsend! I fought him for no reason and gained nothing… When I went back to skewer that liar, I learned he actually wanted Sorsend to trap me in the Raging Wave Desert! Damn it, if I weren’t so powerful, his scheme would’ve worked!”
“Caw caw! Boss Sorsend isn’t brain-dead! He was just in a terrible state back then, caw caw!”
Overhearing Kane’s insults about Sorsend, the Magic Raven Vector on Punk’s shoulder weakly protested. But its feeble objections went unnoticed by Punk and Kane, who were focused on their conversation.
Hearing Kane’s account, Punk’s expression turned peculiar. Watching Kane’s gloomy face, the mage standing in the shadows remarked with barely concealed cold amusement:
“Ignorance is truly terrifying, Kane. That’s a lesson worth pondering! While gathering faith is indeed an effective method to activate bloodlines, you probably didn’t know—Godchildren, as backup plans for many deities, possess one key trait: ‘concealment’!”
Noticing Kane’s disgusted expression, Punk’s mockery became overt. He continued cheerfully to the bewildered Kane:
“Even if these Godchildren haven’t reached Formal-Level power, ordinary Master-Level Divination Spells remain useless. Moreover, even powerful divination typically reveals only approximate locations. Finding an unawakened, ordinary Godchild among masses… generally, aside from sensing them through proximity to other bloodline-related Godchildren, it’s purely luck-based!
Oh, if you have the patience to perform ‘deep soul probes’ on hundreds of thousands of ordinary people in a region, you might succeed. Simple, really—just inefficient, taking a mere one or two thousand years!””Damn, where the hell would I know such knowledge? The only Godchild I’ve managed to find now was barely traced through family records from the ruins.”
Upon hearing Punk’s “explanation”, Kane’s nearly livid face didn’t even show a trace of a smile. It was evident that this unfortunate knight must have invested considerable time and effort in searching for the Godchild, even nearly getting himself killed in the Raging Wave Desert thanks to a so-called “helper”!
But this couldn’t really be blamed on Kane. No matter how wise he might be, Kane was merely a Master-Level knight. For a combat professional like him to possess knowledge comparable to ordinary spellcasters was already remarkable. However, clandestine information regarding deities like Godchildren and divine bloodlines truly wasn’t something accessible at the Master-Level. Only a “successor of the Netherese Civilization” like Punk could be so thoroughly knowledgeable!
