Chapter 133: The Greatest Hunt in Human History

“Buying up all the brain cores—that might be a bit…”
Inside the office, Officer Wang gave a fawning smile. “Of course, I’d never doubt Mr. Luo Ying’s wealth, but as the three of you know, brain cores are strategic resources. If we sell them all to you, the Enhancers in Fortunefall Zone might have some complaints.”

Having heard about the trio’s feats from Mouse Bro, feats that defied scientific explanation, Officer Wang had no choice but to tread carefully. One wrong word could offend them, and that wouldn’t end well.

“Half.”

“Even half is too much—unless the three of you can tell me what these brain cores are for.” Officer Wang probed, “Are you building a new safe zone? If that’s the case, Fortunefall Zone could offer other kinds of support.”

Luo Ying shook his head.

“You already know what happened in Qiyu City. The corpse tide was taken care of—we just saved your zone,” Jiang Li said, having used his divine sense to observe Mouse Bro’s actions.

Officer Wang was stunned. He had no idea how Jiang Li knew what he knew.

Jiang Li went on, “And if we want to defeat the zombies, we’ll need a massive number of brain cores.”

Officer Wang was silent for a moment. After a long pause, he finally spoke. “When I said you were humanity’s heroes, I wasn’t lying. I believe you. Fortunefall Zone has six thousand Tier-1 brain cores—we’ll sell you two-thirds.”

As soon as he said this, it felt like a massive weight had been lifted off his chest.

“A month from now, you’ll see the results of your decision today,” Jiang Li said with a smile.

Four thousand brain cores—what a time saver.

After Luo Ying and Luo Zhu left, Officer Wang suddenly smacked his forehead in regret. “I forgot to ask what this Jiang Li’s background is… Could our Wang Family’s ancestor have really manifested?”

…

Over the next month, Luo Ying and Luo Zhu traveled around setting traps for the zombies. Anytime a Tier-3 zombie popped up and tried to start a corpse tide to breach a safe zone, it would be intercepted by a killing formation before it even got close. All the Tier-1 and Tier-2 zombies would be wiped out, leaving the lone Tier-3 zombie to take a beating.

Luo Ying had once warned safe zones to be wary of an incoming corpse tide, but when the time came, not even a single zombie showed up. Some thought he was just fearmongering.

But after witnessing the shocking scene of a million headless zombies, no one in any safe zone dared to doubt Luo Ying again.

The siblings also went to various safe zones to purchase brain cores. Not all of the zone leaders were like Officer Wang—some were only willing to sell a thousand, and some even asked if the siblings could sell brain cores to them instead.

In the end, they gathered more brain cores from dealing with corpse tides than from purchases.

…

The ocean surface was deathly still, like a pool of stagnant water. But everyone knew that the most terrifying zombies lurked beneath the sea.

A team stationed by the coast watched the waves as they chatted. “What tier do you guys think those zombie whales are?”

Unlike the later stages of the apocalypse, safe zones now openly prioritized monitoring the ocean threat and had teams assigned to report back at any time.

One guy rolled his eyes. “What kind of question is that? Didn’t Big Boss Luo Ying already say they’re Tier-4?”

“I think you all give Luo Ying way too much credit. He just got lucky. He was the first to absorb a brain core, but if I’d been a little braver, I would’ve been the one to do it—and I’d be the big boss.”

“Fair point. You can’t take Luo Ying’s words at face value. Back then, he was just a Tier-1 Enhancer, and he didn’t even have a detector. How could he tell the zombie whale was Tier-4? Are his eyes better than machines?”

“We’re all Tier-1 Enhancers now—any of you able to eyeball a whale’s tier?”

“Dude just got lucky, what can you do? Plus, he’s got a cute and pretty sister—easy on the eyes.”

“Hey, look! Something’s happening out on the water!”

As soon as that was said, everyone’s hearts leapt to their throats. No one cared about arguments anymore—they all turned to stare at the sea.

The surface responded as if triggered by some unseen force. It suddenly surged with towering waves and howling winds as a massive vortex formed.

From that whirlpool, the most feared zombies of all—zombie whales—soared into the sky with a bone-chilling wail, like the doomsday bell tolling humanity’s end.

“This is Eternal Stronghold! Ocean Observation Squad reporting—zombie whales spotted! Repeat—zombie whales spotted!” the squad leader yelled into the communicator.

“Eternal Stronghold here—how many?”

“Detectors show… they’re Tier-4! Tier-4… They’ve spotted us… they’re one thousand meters out… five hundred—”

“Observation Squad, come in! Come in!”
Only a severed arm remained on the other end, gripping the transmitter tightly—never to respond again.

Dozens of zombie whales flapped their wings and soared through the air as if celebrating humanity’s imminent extinction.

Their cries echoed for hundreds of miles, sending chills through every safe zone.

“They’re… coming…”

Compared to the early days of the apocalypse, the whales were stronger now. Fortunately, they still hadn’t broken through to Tier-5—a small comfort.

But no safe zone found that comforting. Tier-4 or Tier-5—did it even matter? Could they stop even a Tier-4?

The whales didn’t think much of humanity’s defenses either. They clearly believed there was nothing on land that could threaten them.

The safe zone closest to the sea, Eternal Stronghold, braced for death, staring down the oncoming whales with grim resolve.

As the whales flew recklessly across the sky, they passed over an open plain—only for massive icicles to suddenly rain down from the heavens, piercing their fleshy wings.

It was like divine judgment—nailing sinners to the earth, dooming them to wither away in agony until death.

The icicles weren’t powerful enough to pin them down forever, though. The whales thrashed and fought to break free.

The soldiers of Eternal Stronghold swore they’d never forget what they saw next—not even in death.

Ancient, magnificent formations appeared both in the sky and on the ground. Anyone who saw them could feel their structural elegance—a testament to history and intelligence.

Even without understanding the principles or the design, everyone could feel the overwhelming power they radiated—far beyond the brute strength of the whales.

The skies shifted with the formations’ activation. Storm clouds gathered. Darkness loomed.

A grand formation of 150,000 glowing points lit up the gloom like stars, shining brighter than the night sky—igniting hope.

The materials used this time even exceeded Jiang Li’s expectations. In just one month, they had gathered 150,000 Tier-1 brain cores, 800 Tier-2, and 6 Tier-3.

If those brain cores had been used in any other way, they never could’ve taken down Tier-4 zombies. But organized into a formation, each core unleashed power far beyond its usual limits.

“Activate the formation,” Jiang Li said expressionlessly. Under his divine sense that covered the entire planet, the whales’ every move was laid bare.

From the moment the plan was set in motion a month ago, the whales’ fate was sealed.

Two grand formations, above and below, locked around them—like a long-prepared trap, ready to spring the moment the whales entered.

They thought humans were the prey.

But to someone with foresight… the whales were the real prey.

This would be the greatest hunt in human history.

Now that the targets were in position, the twin formations began to rotate.
