Chapter 296: The Invisible King
The information-cloud form of Ace’s clone entered the space. Light and shadow swirled around him, and the sky spun dizzily. He felt as if everything around him was moving incredibly fast, much like watching a subway train rush past in his previous life; the images of the surrounding environment flashed by continuously.
This phenomenon slowly shifted. Ace seemed to begin adapting to the situation, and the passage of time started to slow down.
“Strange phenomenon. With time flowing so fast, I haven’t died of old age. Why is that? It’s as if I exist independently of the timeline.”
Information Cloud Ace pondered as he continuously dispersed, sensing this space, this world.
After entering the space, communication with his main body seemed to have weakened significantly. He could still vaguely sense the connection, but the main body felt as if it were frozen in stillness, which puzzled Information Cloud Ace.
“I seem to be gradually adapting to the flow of time here, as if being slowly pulled into the environment by the river of time in this place.”
Ace continued to contemplate. This space, and the world within it, was strange. In his dispersed state, Information Cloud Ace observed and perceived his surroundings.
There was a clear blue sky and lush green grasslands. The scorching sun hung high. On the grassland, dozens of giant beasts, resembling dinosaurs from his previous life, were running freely.
They ran on two legs, using long tails for balance, and possessed upper and lower jaws with extreme biting force. If one observed carefully, they would notice these giant beasts were herding a group of humans.
The humans being driven and chased by the giant beasts wore only simple animal skins or grass skirts. The women wore skins or woven grass wrapped around their chests.
The average height of these humans was about 1.6 to 1.7 meters, forming a sharp contrast with the giant beasts, whose average height reached ten meters. The humans looked very weak.
There were about forty people in this group, all running for their lives barefoot. However, their behavior was bizarre; they ran and stopped, sometimes even suddenly breaking into dance.
One boy, who looked about fifteen or sixteen, shouted to a girl beside him while running.
“Zi, does this really work?”
The girl had a beautiful colorful feather inserted in her hair, and her face was painted with red dye. She held a bone and prayed earnestly, ignoring the boy.
Behind the boy, a middle-aged man about 1.8 meters tall ran past, dancing to a strange rhythm. He spoke anxiously to the boy:
“Duan, you must believe in the Witch, you can only believe in the Witch! It’s impossible for us to defeat the giant beasts.”
The giant beasts behind the crowd, referred to as Evil Beasts, seemed amused by the humans. They laughed in a very human-like manner, their eyes filled with delight, and communicated using a rhythmic sound.
Ace, in his dispersed state, observed all this while simultaneously sensing the environment.
“A near No-Mana environment. My Mana is draining slowly. I slightly increased the Mana activity nearby, but it vanished quickly. This drainage is slow but very firm.
“The physical constitution of these humans below is not strong, and the same goes for these giant beasts. It might be related to the near No-Mana environment.
“These giant beasts seem intelligent; they are communicating!”
Information Cloud Ace realized he understood neither the language of the giant beasts nor the language of the humans here, but this was not a difficult problem for him.
0-Ring Spell: Comprehend Languages. Consuming a little Mana, Ace understood the conversation between the giant beasts and the humans.
“This group of humans is still so interesting. Driving and chasing them makes me physically and mentally happy every time.”
“It’s a pity that indiscriminate killing isn’t allowed in the conservation area. We can only hunt two each.”
“Actually, I want to get one to take home as a pet. I heard that human pets are very considerate if tamed well.”
“Idiot, human pets must be raised starting before age three. The ones in front of us are wild humans; they can’t be tamed!”
The giant beasts turned out to be frolicking and playing; this was their hunting ground. They had their own civilization, calling themselves the Mundo race, and had seven powerful kingdoms. These few giant beasts were young nobles from the strongest kingdom, the Mundo Kingdom.
Although humans also possessed intelligence, they were chased everywhere by the giant beast civilization while still in their age of ignorance. Humans in tribal states were quickly defeated. Apart from a few wild humans living in hunting conservation areas, only meat-humans raised like pigs and pet-humans remained.
Zi did not know Ace was observing her. Through listening to their speech, he had already roughly grasped the situation.
She was performing an ancient ritual, a ritual passed down to this day that legend said had only succeeded once: summoning a great existence, the legendary Invisible King.
Legend had it that the Invisible King descended countless ages ago, right here, and used His whispers to drive countless giant beasts into utter madness.
“Great Invisible King, you are invisible, unseeable, unknowable. You are the only savior. We convert to you, we worship you. Please have mercy on the suffering people.”
The ritual seemed to have reached its end. Everyone stopped running and prostrated themselves on the ground.
Only the boy named Duan did not prostrate. He was still running, gritting his teeth and roaring, “There is no Invisible King at all, and no savior! We can only struggle to survive with all our might. Fck the giant beasts, fck the Invisible King, f*ck the heavens!”
Duan was running out of breath. He knew the habits of the giant beasts; they wouldn’t kill everyone during a hunt. So he would rather continue running than prostrate and wait for death for some so-called Invisible King.
His mother had died three years ago. During a ritual trusting in the Invisible King, she was killed by a giant beast and roasted and eaten right in front of him.
“Saying the Invisible King destroyed the giant beast civilization, saying He will return like lightning to sweep away all nightmares—it’s all lies!”
Just as Duan roared, the only Witch in this small tribe, Zi, raised her hands high, her spirit trembling.
Ace, in the information cloud state, felt it. It turned out Zi was the contract target this time. He could hear Zi’s prayer.
“Great Invisible King, please return like lightning, use your invisible whispers to destroy the giant beasts before us, and save us.”
Information Cloud Ace listened to all this. The dispersed information cloud began to gather. As he gathered, the sky suddenly turned dark, and lightning and storms ran rampant.
“I can actually trigger natural changes?”
Information Cloud Ace couldn’t help but exclaim.
As soon as his voice fell, several giant beasts immediately fainted. The prostrating humans, the running Duan, and the nearby wild beasts all fell unconscious. Only the Witch, Zi, stood up with a somewhat crazy look in her eyes.
The red paint on the young girl’s face looked even more vivid due to her agitated emotions.
Torrential rain fell along with Ace’s whispers. The earth was trembling, as if something ominous was about to happen.
Ace tried to communicate with the Witch. A simple greeting actually made the Witch shudder all over, a red flush rising on her face.
In Zi’s ears, terrifying whispers seemed to sound—incomprehensible, inescapable. But Zi did her best to suppress her fear, striving to get closer to these whispers, praying continuously.
Ace tried a few times and found that Zi’s mental state was becoming very unstable. He feared that the death of the contract target would cause the contract to break, so he stopped whispering to Zi.
