Chapter 306: Learning

After that incredible night, Duan became a firm believer in the Invisible King, even a fanatic. He believed the Invisible King was the world’s Savior, and the three of them were the King’s chosen warriors, warriors who would save humanity.

“I am a King-Chosen Warrior. I will follow the brilliance of the Invisible King and listen to the King’s whispers. Our tribe is also a King-Chosen Tribe. I will definitely return from the Kam Tribe having learned everything.”

Duan carried the two bundles of smoked meat and a shell necklace prepared for him by Deer, walking towards Buri Lake in the north.

That shell necklace was a gift from Deer’s friend in the Kam Tribe. Deer asked Duan to take the necklace as a token and one bundle of smoked meat as a gift for his friend.

Spring passed and autumn came; time flew by. The Luca Grassland welcomed late autumn once again. Deer and the others began the tense yet orderly production of new smoked meat and dried fruit.

Over the past year, relying on continuous cooperation in hunting and gathering, generous gifting of prey, and spreading the gospel of the Invisible King, they had formed good relationships with the other five tribes of the Luca Grassland.

Thanks to these good relationships, the Deer Tribe quickly became localized in the Luca Grassland and, with the help of other tribes, survived several hunting attempts by giant beasts.

In the past six months, four Blood Qi Warriors were successively born in the tribe. Zi personally blessed them, granting them the title of King-Chosen Warriors.

Unknowingly, Zi transformed from the noblest Witch of the Deer Tribe into the noblest Witch of the Luca Grassland. People from nearby tribes often came to listen to the King’s gospel.

Zi no longer stayed only in the Deer Tribe but frequently traveled between the other five tribes, using the herbal knowledge taught by the Invisible King and the vitality power brought by Blood Qi to save believers.

Deer lay on a pile of dry grass, eyes closed, chewing on a stalk of grass, thinking relaxed and comfortably.

“In another month, it will be the annual Matchmaking Conference. This year, due to attacks by giant beasts, every tribe has suffered significant losses. Our tribe also lost twelve members.

“But we have stored food, so we can definitely exchange for more population. I wonder if Duan will come back. There are quite a few lovely girls in other tribes who favor King-Chosen Warriors.”

One month later, Duan was thriving in the Kam Tribe.

Although he remembered the gospel of the Invisible King, he knew it was a taboo to preach foreign gods at someone else’s door. So he only maintained his devout faith while integrating into the Kam Tribe, performing various labors for free.

Whether it was bow and arrow hunting, building walls with rammed earth, livestock breeding, or slash-and-burn agriculture, Duan learned and mastered everything.

“Duan, why don’t you join the Kam Tribe? The Chief appreciates you very much. As long as you come, you will be a Centurion and can even learn the Kam script!”

Deer’s friend, the outstanding hunter of the Kam Tribe, Tulu, said.

Tulu had thick eyebrows and big eyes. Though only of medium build, he possessed excellent archery skills. Duan had relied on him when he first learned archery.

Duan didn’t speak. Looking at Tulu, he thought of his own tribe; it was time to go back.

Seeing Duan’s expression, Tulu sighed and said, “Think about it again. It’s already midnight. If you want to leave, I’ll send you off tomorrow morning.”

Duan stayed in the thatched hut without a word, staring at Tulu’s departing back. After Tulu closed the door, he rolled over and got up, drew a stone knife, slung a short bow made of birch wood on his back, and put several arrows into his leather pouch.

After getting ready, Duan pressed against the wooden door, listening to the sounds outside.

It was somewhat noisy, but he already knew he was surrounded. The Kam Tribe didn’t intend to let him, a person who knew so many secrets, go. They planned to deal with him tonight.

Outside the house, Tulu led ten men of the tribe, holding torches. They threw the torches directly onto the thatched roof piled with dry grass, and the fire ignited instantly.

“Block the door with stones.”

Several men pushed giant stones prepared in advance to the door, firmly blocking it.

Duan listened to the crackling sound of the burning fire and smelled the charred smoke. He hesitated no longer. The great strength of a King-Chosen Warrior, which he had never revealed, was no longer concealed at this moment.

Duan hugged the door frame with both hands, forcibly tore down the wooden door, then pushed the giant stones with force, moving them about half a meter. Holding the wooden door to shield himself, he rushed out.

Tulu and the others were shocked and hurriedly shot arrows, all of which hit the wooden door.

Duan didn’t knock them over but swung the door panel, easily knocking the few people besieging him unconscious with his immense strength.

He didn’t stop there. He used a torch to ignite several thatched huts of the Kam Tribe and fled under the cover of night.

That night, the largest tribe by Buri Lake, the Kam Tribe, which claimed to be civilized and possessed writing, suffered its greatest fire, with over half killed or injured.

Duan ran directly south. He knew the Kam Tribe would definitely not let this go and would certainly come to his tribe to find him, perhaps even wiping out the Deer Tribe in passing. He had to return to the Deer Tribe first; it was his only option.

Whistle!

A crisp whistle sounded from Duan’s mouth. The sound of clop-clop followed—it was actually a wild horse.

After seeing the Kam Tribe raising pigs and sheep, Duan had an idea. He tried taming a wild horse. Duan’s taming method was very simple and crude: he picked the lead horse of a herd and beat it up.

Unexpectedly, he subdued the lead horse just like that. Afterward, Duan often visited the lead horse with cooked grains. Back and forth, their relationship grew better, and the wild horse gradually obeyed him, understanding some of his whistles.

Two legs can’t outrun four legs. The people of the Kam Tribe were busy fighting the fire. By the time they went to track Duan, he was long gone.

Deer had just brought the new tribe members exchanged for food at the Matchmaking Conference to the cave. Their tribe now had over one hundred and forty people, with over eighty young and strong members.

The only problem was that the Deer Tribe’s cave was a bit small, making it a bit crowded for so many people to live in.

While Deer watched Zi hold the tribe induction ceremony for the new members, in his heart he was imagining that given another three years, he was confident he could peacefully unite the entire Luca Grassland.

“Maybe I can be like the legendary Chief Ao and establish a tribal alliance. I really want that day to come sooner.”

Just then, the neighing of a horse sounded, accompanied by the clatter of hooves. The tribe members were startled, picking up slings and stone spears vigilantly.

“Don’t attack, don’t attack! It’s me, King-Chosen Warrior Duan!”

Duan hurriedly hugged the horse’s head to stop it and leaped down from the horse.

Following closely behind was a large herd of wild horses, which had actually followed him.

“Duan! You kid finally came back. I thought you were going to stay in the Kam Tribe forever.”

Deer waved his hand to signal everyone to put down their weapons, rushed up, and gave Duan a solid hug.

After a hasty hug with Deer, Duan whispered, “Chief, we must leave the Luca Grassland immediately!”
