Chapter 461: Calculation Power

Half a month later, the latest Magic journal was released. Almost the entire issue was dedicated to specific discoveries about the world based on Magical Mechanics. A series of problems—such as solar eclipse research, lunar eclipse research, tides, the distance between the sun and the earth center, and the distance between the sun and the moon—were readily solved.

Among them, the most eye-catching article was the Warren-Sulu Torsion Balance Experiment jointly published by Warren and Sulu. Wizards were more inclined to call it the “Constant Experiment” or “Weighing the Earth Center.”

The wizards were very excited. Bruce, Allen, and Eva were also talking loudly about this matter at Allen’s house. In just a few short days, Allen had also advanced to Level 1 Life, and Eva had great confidence in doing so. The changes brought about by the theoretical innovation were significant.

Bruce’s chubby face trembled slightly as he said loudly: “The articles in this issue are all repairs and supplements to Magical Mechanics. Of course, theoretical innovation is incredibly difficult; I feel that we probably won’t be able to break through the scope of Magical Mechanics in the short term. Warren’s exquisite torsion balance experiment has pushed the glory of mechanics to a climax. We have mastered the mysteries of the Earth Center; we have mastered the constants!”

Allen was also very excited. He adjusted his force reception method and state according to the Gravitational Constant and flew up effortlessly:

“The determination of the constant allows us to fly better. We can use gravity, inertia, action, and reaction to fly more stably and faster with less effort.

“We consume less mana, and we can fly faster. We can even lower the threshold of the Flight Spell to advanced wizard apprentices. They don’t need to use the Low-Altitude Flight Spell; as long as their bodies can withstand it, they can fly anywhere!”

Eva stretched out her hand, and hundreds of Magic Missiles hovered at her fingertips. She also said: “More than that, mechanics has changed our combat. Any of our battles requires force. As long as we can accurately calculate the direction, speed, and point of impact of the force, our magic will become terrifyingly powerful!”

She waved her hand seemingly casually. Hundreds of Magic Missiles passed through the open window, whistled into the sky, and bloomed in the air.

Mathematical symbols seemed to flash and disappear in her eyes.

Huff… huff…

Bruce said with some concern: “Did you consume too much mental energy?”

Eva’s face was slightly pale. She shook her head: “Not mental energy, but brain power was over-consumed.”

Allen’s pupils shrank slightly. He keenly discovered that the hundreds of missiles launched by Eva collided ingeniously, erupting with an effect far exceeding one plus one, achieving a result where one plus one is greater than two.

“I think… maybe we need a magical item to assist in calculation. It would be best if it could be mass-produced…” Allen murmured.

At the same time, at the High Tower outside the city, Ace said to the wizards:

“We can achieve high-speed calculation with the help of the Magic Net, but wizards cannot use the Magic Net at all times. Once we leave the range of the city-state, we cannot connect to the Magic Net. Although wizards possess strong calculation abilities, our own calculation power is limited. The reason humans are different from animals is that we can think and use tools. Now, perhaps we should create a Magic Calculation Auxiliary Tool that belongs to us!”

The wizards all nodded. Bayen asked: “Lord Ace, how should we construct such a calculation auxiliary tool? Should we adopt a scattered structure like the Magic Network?”

Ace shook his head and said: “I have a concept I want to share with everyone. We can create a tool where we achieve logical implementation through a specific system structure. It consists of five parts: the Controller, the Arithmetic Unit, the Memory, the Input Device, and the Output Device. I call this tool a Magic Computer!”

Everyone was confused, seemingly not quite understanding what Ace’s design meant.

Ace shook his head; this was a long-term project. What he proposed was essentially a computer, but built using the power of magic, using magical materials as hardware. He further explained to everyone:

“This is a prototype concept. Specifically, a Magic Computer is composed of hardware and software. I call the software ‘Programs,’ which are instructions that the computer can recognize and execute. A program is a sequence of instructions.

“The hardware part consists of the five parts I mentioned:

Controller: The hub of the entire computer. Its function is to interpret the control information specified by the program, perform control according to its requirements, schedule programs and data, and coordinate the work of various parts of the computer

Arithmetic Unit: Performs various arithmetic and logical operations on data—processing the data.

Memory: Its function is to store programs, data, and various signals, commands, and other information, and provide this information when needed.

Input Device: Its function is to input information such as programs, raw data, text, characters, control commands, or field-collected data into the computer.

Output Device: Outputs information such as the computer’s intermediate or final results, various data symbols and text within the machine, or various control signals.”

The wizards’ comprehension ability was not poor. Their eyes gradually flashed with the light of expectation, contemplation, and doubt. After a silence, Warren was the first to ask: “You mean, based on this concept, we create such a magic item to assist us in complex mechanized calculations, thereby liberating our brain power?”

Betty couldn’t help but question:

“I once had a similar idea—of course, not as exquisite and concise as Lord Ace’s design—but the magical item created in the end was unsatisfactory. It was extremely clumsy. Its calculation power couldn’t even reach one-tenth of an ordinary person, let alone compare to a Level 2 Life.

“I think if we want to improve calculation power, perhaps we shouldn’t start with mechanized calculation. We can strengthen the research of Activation Magic and create a purely rational Activated Auxiliary Brain to assist in calculation.”

No one expected that Betty, the typical representative of Mechanical Alchemy, would actually oppose the computer tool. Daina felt angry at Betty’s questioning, but she couldn’t argue because Betty wasn’t just talking; she took out some experimental evidence. She even made an extremely simple and clumsy magic computer on the spot, and the calculation effect was very unsatisfactory.

Ace nodded. He had anticipated this situation. In fact, this was a discussion, and Betty’s proposal also had its advantages. The research on Activation Magic had accumulated a lot of data. Manufacturing an emotionless auxiliary brain had a similar effect to a clone and could also solve calculation problems to a certain extent.

“We can try separately. If everyone is interested, you can also choose a method to try to solve this problem. With the development of magic, high-intensity calculation volume is unavoidable. Mathematics is the foundation of our power, and we must also enhance our own calculation power.

“Actually, Betty’s idea is one method. Not just Magic Computers or Rational Auxiliary Brains; we can even achieve the effect of improving calculation power through tool clones. Perhaps our calculation methods will be more diverse in the future.”
