Chapter 472: Unmagical

Allen stared at Eva blankly, as if knowing her for the first time: “What you said makes a lot of sense. If we just walk the old path again, it would be too boring. Let’s put that aside for now. Bruce gave us a mission. The reward is a bottle of Pure Frost Potion. We need to catch this woman named Elena!”

Eva opened the scroll Allen handed over and unrolled it.

Almost every wizard was an excellent artist, and Bruce was no exception. Elena was a thin, capable, and beautiful woman, about twenty years old, dressed somewhat raggedly.

“Is there any other intelligence?”

After memorizing the physical characteristics, Eva put away the scroll and returned it to Allen.

“I heard she often haunts the Black Street and occasionally appears on the South Street. She is a thief.”

Allen’s eyes danced with eagerness, a smile on his lips.

Eva nodded: “Although Bruce is a flirt and takes advantage of people, his crimes don’t deserve death even in a dream. We will help him take revenge—for justice and the Pure Frost Potion!”

In the dream world, the two were only junior wizard apprentices. They had just spent five or six days here. Except for the Minimalist Meditation Method, they hadn’t obtained any other runes yet. However, with their rich experience, they weren’t afraid of this little woman.

“There are four major overt forces in the City of True Knowledge: the Magic Council, the Virtue Knights, the Warrior Guild, and the Temple. There are two hidden forces: the Warlock Council and the Sin Knights. This is basically the intelligence shared on the forum. We are going to arrest a young woman. As long as we don’t involve the six major forces or the United City Defense Army, there shouldn’t be any big problems,” Evasaid in a cool voice.

Allen nodded, and the two began to investigate Elena’s situation. After more than half a day of investigation, they had a rough idea of Elena’s background.

She was an orphan who grew up on Black Street and was also a low-level member of a local gang. She usually made a living by stealing and occasionally worked with other gang members to pull off entrapment schemes.

When Allen and Eva found her, Elena was carrying a basket of black bread, distributing it to a group of orphans.

Allen and Eva looked at each other, a trace of surprise flashing past, but they didn’t hesitate and continued to track Elena. Unexpectedly, after tracking her for less than ten minutes, Elena suddenly walked into a deep alley and jumped over a wall to escape in two or three steps.

“We’ve been spotted!”

A cold glint flashed in Allen’s eyes.

A large fishing net fell from the sky. The two jumped away to avoid it without hesitation. Dozens of gang members charged up holding clubs and daggers.

Eva shouted loudly. Her hands actually glowed with a metallic milky white light. A transparent, hard magic crystal gauntlet appeared on her right hand, covering most of her arm.

“You go chase her; leave these to me!”

Allen didn’t hesitate. He immediately stepped on the wall and leaped onto the roof in a few steps, chasing after Elena: “As expected of the woman who killed Bruce; she does have some skills. But this is the end of the line for you. Do you think you can beat a wizard?”

Leaving Eva to slaughter her way through the alley, Allen rapidly closed in on Elena. The two moved into increasingly desolate areas.

Elena seemed very afraid. Her legs trembled slightly. She pulled out a sharpened dagger from her waist and shrieked: “Who are you? Don’t come over!”

Allen didn’t speak. He looked around and confirmed there was no ambush. Then, he rushed towards Elena with a stride and punched her in the head. The force was neither too heavy nor too light, just enough to knock a mortal unconscious.

Elena fainted in response. The dagger fell to the ground with a clang. Allen carried her on his shoulder, picked up the dagger, and was about to leave.

Just then, Elena’s eyes suddenly opened. Blood red spread within them. Her canine teeth rapidly grew into sharp fangs, her face became pale, and the fingernails on both hands grew into sharp claws. She twisted her head to claw at Allen’s head, her fangs biting towards Allen’s neck.

…

Time rewinds to two days ago in dream time.

Caruso and Polina, Level 1 Wizards studying bloodline transplantation, had already explored the City of True Knowledge and its vicinity for four days. Relying on their own combat experience, they accepted a large number of low-level tasks from the Magic Council and promoted to intermediate wizard apprentices in just four days.

“Polina, I saw a very interesting task.”

Just after completing the promotion ceremony at the Magic Council and stabilizing their inherent mana, Caruso suddenly spoke.

Polina looked at Caruso. Here, his face had no scars and was very handsome. She smiled gently and asked Caruso: “What interesting task did you find?”

Caruso pointed a finger. It read: “Clear the Blood Crows occupying the Dyson Forest in the western suburbs of the City of True Knowledge.”

Polina looked at Caroso, not understanding: “Isn’t this just an ordinary task? Where is the fun?”

Caroso seemed to fall into memories and whispered:

“I remember Lord Ace saying that he used Blood Crows for experiments during the first projection ritual. This kind of crow is very interesting. They love to eat blood—living blood is best, but dead blood will do.

“They have the terrifying ability to extract blood from living creatures and turn it into their own use; they can manipulate fresh blood, activating blood for combat; they can also absorb the vitality of blood to restore themselves.

“This kind of crow is also very beautiful. Although they are low-level monsters, they are blood-red all over. Some individuals have backs as exquisite and translucent as red crystals. Their strength is on par with advanced wizard apprentices.”

Hearing the description, Polina also became interested in this creature: “Listening to your description, this creature’s blood manipulation ability is very strong. Just this ability alone might lead to the development of Blood Series Magic in the future! But why have I never heard Lord Ace mention this creature later?”

Caroso said softly: “After the Northen frontier became an Abyssal Projection, the Blood Crows seemed to have completely disappeared. I ventured out to look for them a few times but never found a trace.”

His gaze was burning, and his voice was firm: “I have always believed that although the Blood Crow is only a low-level monster, its innate ability is extremely malleable. We should find them in the dream world, obtain their rune structures, and even pry into the secrets within their blood.”

Polina nodded, then shook her head and said: “The dream world is a virtual world after all. This is just a combat place created for us by Lord Ace where we can die infinitely. But doing experiments here…”

Caroso smiled and said: “We have to try, don’t we? Since Lord Ace said experiments can be done here, we might as well try. Don’t forget an unlocked feature on the panel. I heard that those who possess a Dream Space can pay a certain price to manifest the virtual into reality!”

Polina still couldn’t quite believe it: “Turning the illusions in the dream world into reality? That is too inconsistent with common sense, too unobjective and non-neutral. It’s unmagical.”

A gleam flashed in Caroso’s eyes as he said in a deep voice: “But isn’t this a miracle? You think it’s unmagical; perhaps your cognition is just not enough yet. Don’t think too much. Accompany me to catch a few Blood Crows, and we’ll see the result!”
