Chapter 473: Blood Crow
The two walked together and soon arrived at the Dyson Forest. They didn’t accept the task because they were only intermediate wizard apprentices, and this task required at least one advanced wizard apprentice to accept.
Caroso cast a Minor Concealment Spell on Polina and himself, concealing their mana fluctuations. Polina then took out an eagle eye bead and a feather, randomly casting Minor Partial Transformation.
Her eyes gradually turned into eagle eyes, and her arms and shoulders transformed into huge wings. After flapping a few times, she achieved flight with the help of mana.
This was a helpless move. They only found these on the spell exchange list of the Magic Council in the City of True Knowledge. Better spells were available, but the contribution points they earned from tasks were not enough to exchange for them.
Soon, Polina discovered a large flock of Blood Crows. There were nearly three hundred of them in a group. Several of them had translucent backs, feathers like blood-red crystals, and pupils like miserable blood moons—precisely the mutated Blood Crows!
Polina focused her voice into a line and transmitted it to Caroso’s ears. Upon hearing the news, Caroso subconsciously licked his lips. He had a premonition in his heart that this kind of crow might be the magical creature he had been looking for!
“Let’s not rush. Set up some magic traps first and wait for stragglers. Catch one or two ordinary Blood Crows to study first!”
Caroso focused his voice into a line and transmitted it to Polina’s ears in the sky. It was somewhat piercing.
Polina patiently observed the movements, while Caroso constructed the magic trap “Vine Binding Array” on the ground. He embedded a secondary magic stone into the trap magic array with some heartache, then scattered the magified vine seeds exchanged from the Magic Council into it.
Caroso patted the dust off his body and said with satisfaction: “Almost done. Just waiting for the prey to take the bait.”
The sky gradually dimmed. From time to time, hunters or mortals entering the forest to collect herbs were attacked by flocks of Blood Crows and quickly turned into dried corpses.
It was clearly a virtual dream world, yet the deaths of these mortals looked so real in Caroso’s eyes. The expressions of pain and fear, and the strong will to survive made him feel in a trance that this was a real world.
“Perhaps for the humans in the dream, this is a real world.”
While murmuring, Caroso adjusted his state. Opportunity always favors the prepared mind.
Finally, at the moment when the evening glow sprinkled all over the jungle, a Blood Crow left the group and flew outwards. It flew like a blood rainbow towards a village outside the jungle.
Caroso’s pupils shrank slightly. He nodded slightly to Polina in the sky. The two rapidly approached the blood rainbow.
Polina flew somewhat clumsily and soon attracted the attention of the Blood Crow. The Blood Crow had never seen such a weird creature—looking like a human but having wings and flying in the sky.
The Blood Crow shrieked fiercely, pretending to be ferocious, wanting to intimidate Polina into retreating. Polina felt the blood in her whole body churning, somewhat unstable.
Fortunately, she had no wounds on her body, and her strength was on par with the Blood Crow. She used her inherent mana to stabilize her churning blood and hovered slowly.
“Fear… show fear!”
Caroso’s somewhat piercing voice transmitted over. Polina instantly realized. Her expression slowly became frightened and fearful, and she turned to flee.
The Blood Crow, which was originally shrieking loudly to attract other companions, stopped its shrill cries. Its eyes sharply chased Polina. The feathers under its wings became blood-red and translucent. As it flapped, blood wings chased after Polina one by one.
For a realistic effect, Polina deliberately took a hit from the blood wings. Instantly, she trembled all over, feeling cold throughout her body.
Her blood began to go out of control. With every cry of the Blood Crow, blood would gurgle out along the wound. The blood wings seemed to transform into alien blood, tearing and controlling Polina’s blood.
“Its bad, i am going to crash!”
Just as Polina’s vision went black, she vaguely heard Caroso’s somewhat anxious voice: “Dive, dive…”
Polina followed the voice and glided downwards crookedly, her vision going black.
Caroso stared at the diving Blood Crow and activated the magic trap “Vine Binding Array” without hesitation. The secondary magic stone melted rapidly. Dozens of seeds grew and extended quickly. Vines as thick as arms surged out rapidly.
Like a flower composed of dozens of vines blooming, after growing rapidly towards the sky for more than ten meters, they spread out and closed quickly, capturing the diving Blood Crow directly.
Clang!
The vines closed, binding and knocking the Blood Crow unconscious directly.
Caroso leaped into the sky and caught the unconscious Polina.
“Water… water…”
Polina called out weakly. She dazedly touched the edge of a pottery bowl and gulped it down. It was cool and delicious.
After drinking several mouthfuls in a row, Polina opened her eyes and looked around weakly.
She and Caroso were on a donkey cart. Caroso had just stopped the cart and scooped a few bowls of water for her from a pottery jar next to him.
“Did I faint? Incredible. I actually experienced the feeling of fainting for real in a dream.”
Polina clicked her tongue in wonder. She struggled, trying to stand up, but was forced to lie down due to pain.
Caroso gently pressed her down and said softly: “Lord Ace’s dream world is definitely extraordinary. You must know this is known as the Real Dream! Ordinary intermediate wizard apprentices of the Soul School can create killing illusions, let alone Lord Ace.”
Polina nodded, grimacing in pain as she said: “Indeed. This is the Noble Phantasm-level dream world ‘Fantasia.’ It can be said to be the highest achievement in the domain of the Soul School.
“And what’s more terrifying is that Lord Ace incorporated various laws of Magical Mechanics into it, making this world incomparably real. It’s just that I still can’t quite understand why these fake people in the dream world look no different from real ones?”
Caroso thought and said:
“We descend from outside the dream. In our view, they are fake, but in their view, they might be incomparably real. If one day, a higher-level life form descends into our world from outside, perhaps they would also think we are fake.
“But who is fake and who is real? Who can say for sure?”
Polina also smiled and sighed: “Let’s not talk about this; it’s too distant. Did we catch the Blood Crow?”
Caroso nodded, snorted handsomely, lifted a sealed metal box bought from the Magic Council, and patted it a few times: “With its condition, it can’t run.”
Sounds of “flutter, flutter” came from the box, seemingly resisting fiercely. The two slowly returned to the City of True Knowledge under the moonlight.
After this, Caroso borrowed a simple laboratory from the Magic Council and studied this Blood Crow in it. With the vision and experience of a 2-Ring Wizard, Caroso soon achieved some results.
He diluted a unique serum prepared from the Blood Crow’s body. After injecting it into an ordinary human body, it would greatly enhance the ordinary person’s bodily functions. He called it “Blood Source Reagent.”
This reagent soon flowed into the black market of the City of True Knowledge, and Elena happened to exchange a secondary magic stone for a bottle.
