Chapter 486: Competition

Eva’s gauntlets appeared and disappeared between her fingers. She was somewhat impatient: “No need to think so much. Let’s just go recruit people and head directly to Syracur.”

Bruce slapped his chubby hand down forcefully: “It’s settled then. We’ll each recruit manpower first. I just looked at the task introduction; a 2-Ring Wizard can recruit a thousand people. Let’s go to the human kingdom below first, gather the manpower, and then talk.”

This Main Task did not cause too much of a stir. Many wizards ignored it directly, attracted instead by another new function.

Suburbs of the City of True Knowledge, Magic School Manor.

Young wizard apprentices were playing on the campus, walking in groups of three or five. It was break time, and they were all chatting chirpily.

“Hook, Hook, did you see the panel update just now?”

A short wizard with ordinary looks and gray hair poked Hook Thoth with his hand, looking excited and apprehensive.

Hook leaned lazily against a wooden pillar and said indifferently: “I didn’t pay much attention. What happened, Dennis?”

Dennis looked eager and whispered: “The Attribute Panel has updated. There is a new function called ‘Competition.’ I just studied it. Competition is divided into three types: 1v1 Single Battle, 1v1 Team Battle, and Multiplayer Melee.

“Every battle costs a certain amount of fantasy points, but as long as you win, you can get more fantasy points.”

He waved his small fist forcefully, seeming to see a future with a large amount of fantasy points.

Hook Thoth didn’t care much. He was a clone of a Demi-god. Although not currently controlled by the will of Demigod Thoth, this kind of battle was too childish for him.

Seeing that Hook wasn’t very interested, Dennis’s face also darkened: “I thought you would look forward to actual combat as much as I do. There is no penalty for death in this kind of battle, and you can resurrect immediately…”

His voice became smaller and smaller. Hook looked at Dennis’s expression and couldn’t help smiling: “Then let’s try it first.”

This new function, which appeared quietly, soon attracted the attention of all Dreamwalkers. Anonymous, three forms of battle, random terrain, unlimited and penalty-free resurrection!

Especially the last point, it spread like wildfire. The Competition function quickly became the hottest topic on the Wizard Forum.

At this time, it was already night in the dream world. The Competition function was finally open. Dennis excitedly clicked the Competition button. His hand shook slightly, a white light flashed, and Dennis disappeared without a trace.

Hook frowned slightly. Relying solely on his strength as a clone, which was merely an intermediate warlock apprentice, he couldn’t see through the things behind these changes at all.

He didn’t mind: “Only like this, it’s more interesting. If I look at it with the eyes of a Demigod, sometimes it restricts thinking. Let’s experience Ace’s masterpiece.”

Another white light flashed, and Hook also disappeared.

White lights flickered one after another. Many Dreamwalkers who went offline early appeared at this time, pinching the time perfectly, ready to have a good fight.

As an intermediate wizard apprentice, Dennis didn’t have many methods. He hadn’t even had a proper actual battle. Even in the dream world, he was still a bit afraid.

He was now in a strange space. An arena was not far from him, and further out seemed to be the endless void.

“No need to be afraid of embarrassment this time. It’s all anonymous anyway, with only self-chosen codenames. Even if I fail, no one will know it’s me.”

Dennis chose a codename and stood eagerly outside the marble ring arena, only to find that his movement range seemed to be only one meter, unable to approach.

A light screen appeared in front of him, and a gentle female voice came: “Respected Dreamwalker, please choose the mode and the betting points.”

Dennis looked carefully for a while, tapped a few times on the light screen, and chose 1v1 Single Battle. A line of words flashed above: “Bronze Tier 5.” Then came the betting point limit; there was no choice, locked at one point.

Dennis only had ten points. He tremblingly invested one point and pressed confirm.

The scene in front of him instantly became colorful. He seemed to be pushed hard by someone. Looking again, he had appeared in the center of the arena, wearing a standard wizard apprentice robe, his face a blurry mass.

Opposite him appeared a shirtless burly man holding a short sword and a shield, his face equally blurred.

Seeing the short and thin opponent opposite him, the burly man first roared excitedly, then noticed the wizard robe and the light screen prompt, his eyes filled with vigilance.

Dennis subconsciously wanted to dodge but found himself bound, unable to move.

A somewhat high-pitched female voice rang out: “Bronze Tier 5 Wizard Fire Fury versus Bronze Tier 5 Warrior Wolf Howl! Three, two, one!”

The binding suddenly disappeared. The warrior opposite him kicked off with powerful thighs, rushing rapidly towards Dennis. He knew wizards had many methods. Only by approaching quickly and interrupting the opponent’s casting could he possibly win.

Dennis couldn’t dodge in time. Watching the opponent’s face getting closer and the short sword reflecting light, his mind went blank. His legs trembled, and he dodged only by instinct.

“Ah!”

Dennis screamed. His left arm was completely sliced off by the sharp short sword, and he rolled onto the ground.

The burly man “Wolf Howl” was unforgiving. He slammed his shield forcefully against Dennis’s head, making dull thumping sounds, muttering in his mouth.

“Interrupt casting, interrupt casting, interrupt casting…”

Dennis wanted to struggle at first, but after being hammered dozens of times by the shield, he fainted directly. The Competition Referee System judged him as the loser. Two white lights flashed.

Dennis, reappearing outside the arena, touched his arm and forehead with lingering fear. They were as good as new, but there still seemed to be a faint pain.

“I really lack actual combat experience. I was actually knocked unconscious directly by an ordinary warrior.”

He discovered that the light screen actually had a playback button. Clicking it subconsciously, it turned out to be the panoramic process of the battle just now. Dennis watched it seriously, sighing with annoyance.

“At the moment the opponent charged, there was a high-energy reaction in his legs. It should be Blood Energy Activation. He didn’t attach Heart Fire damage, so he should just be an ordinary Blood Energy Warrior.

“I lost because my mind went blank. I should have chanted quickly to create a Magic Crystal Barrier or Protection Shield. I studied the Complete Collection of Minor Magic Spells for nothing.”

Dennis wasn’t in a hurry to enter battle. While reviewing this extremely failed encounter, he summoned the Complete Collection of Minor Magic Spells from the panel, studying countermeasures.

About half an hour later, Dennis said with full confidence: “No matter who I meet, I will first activate the spell ‘Magical Trickery,’ then create a ‘Magic Crystal Shield,’ and cast ‘Agility’ and ‘Bull’s Strength’ on myself. This time I must win!”

Dennis pressed the “Single Battle” option heavily. Once again, colors swirled, and he entered the arena.
