Chapter 242: Strategy
In the time that followed, the three unawakened ones were surprised to find that the bad old man with the short beard suddenly showed them great care.
Although he didn’t release them, after forcing them to sign some “Powerful Loyalty Covenant” and “Powerful Secrecy Covenant” under that “Covenant Scale,” they were granted the right to move about with some freedom.
Although they were descendants of the God of Strength, the three lacked the backbone expected of such lineage. Under Bayen’s intimidation and inducement, they confusedly accepted the so-called Lesser Permanent Mental Blessing and successfully achieved Mental Overdrive.
The three were amazed to discover that they could use their mental power to levitate objects. The reason they had fallen from the status of Divine Descendants to their current state was that no one in their family had undergone Divine Revelation for several generations.
The three brothers could have easily lived as parasites in Norton City-State, but they were unwilling to accept mediocrity. They ventured out for ten years but failed to find the fortuitous encounters with Wonders mentioned in Hero legends. Too ashamed to return to Norton to live as parasites, they eventually became the leaders of a group of bandits.
Even so, they still harbored a heart that yearned for the supernatural!
The three exchanged glances, unable to conceal their excitement.
They had long realized that the bad old man was not a Divine Descendant. According to the old man himself, he was an Advanced Wizard Apprentice. Were they going to become Wizards too?
Their gazes were somewhat complex. Should they betray their own class for supernatural power? It seemed they had no choice.
“Harlan, Warren, Tangqi, you have become Mental Overdrive users. According to my perception, your mental power exceeds 1 Unit. Who wants to try using Wizard spells first?”
Bayen spoke kindly to the group. He had canceled the Charm spell. Since he planned to develop Wizard forces among Divine Descendants, he had to use open schemes to win them over; spells were too petty for the bigger picture.
The three were eager to try. Hadn’t they diligently sought this for thirty years just to possess true supernatural power?
“I am the eldest brother, I’ll go first!”
Harlan said.
Subsequently, under Bayen’s careful guidance, it took Harlan a day to finally learn to correctly draw Lesser Mana #4 and Lesser Projection #6.
Harlan first tried to activate Lesser Mana #4, targeting himself.
The Mana in the surrounding environment began to pulse. Harlan slowly siphoned the surrounding Mana to nourish his soul and body, while Bayen observed and recorded.
A week later, Harlan, Warren, and Tangqi stood in Bayen’s courtyard, earnestly drawing rune structures in the air.
Because they lacked necessary mathematical knowledge and relied purely on rote memorization, their casting speed was very slow. After about two minutes, the three successively completed drawing the Spell Model of the Lesser Mana Missile in the air.
Accompanied by the pulse of Mana, the Spell Models activated, and three Lesser Mana Missiles fired instantly.
Bayen looked at the three with some excitement. His plan might actually work!
The three also looked excitedly at the pits created by the Mana Missiles on the ground. They had mastered supernatural power. Although it wasn’t the power of bloodlines, it was real supernatural power!
In the following time, Bayen continued to teach these experimental subjects, controlling them with Charm during rest periods, until today when he secretly reported to Ace.
Ace listened to Bayen’s report in the Sealing Room, then slowly released his pressure, looking at Bayen. While Bayen was sweating profusely, Ace said:
“You did very well. The original intention of the suggestion is good, and the feasibility has been shown. However, this matter is very important. If you have similar plans in the future, mention them to me first so I can support you better.”
Bayen broke into a cold sweat. He had indeed been too focused on the experiment and forgot the most important rule for a subordinate: never keep secrets from superiors.
Ace looked at Bayen and continued:
“Your idea of developing secret Wizard forces in every city-state of Saria through the secret directional dissemination of Grimoires is advisable.
We must not only develop among the lower-class Divine Descendant Nobles but also seek out those with mental talent in various city-states. You should have discovered that Wizard Apprentices with different mental talents advance at different speeds.
Of course, we Wizards don’t just look at mental talent but also at academic talent. Limited by our strength, we prioritize collecting those with excellent mental talent, then assess their academic talent.”
Bayen listened earnestly to Ace’s words, stroked his short beard, and said slowly: “My Lord, do you mean we should develop both lower-class Divine Descendant Nobles and mortals with superior mental power in Saria simultaneously?”
“Correct! The priority at this stage is to establish our underground organizations in various city-states, prioritize developing those with superior mental power, and periodically dispatch Magic Ships to bring them to the High Tower Territory for further training, gathering all the mentally superior individuals of Saria for our use.
As for developing lower-class Divine Descendant Nobles to disintegrate them from within, this idea is excellent, but not perfect enough, and it lacks supporting experimental data.”
Ace used Advanced Magical Trickery to conjure two chairs, sat down relaxedly, and answered.
Bayen also sat down and asked somewhat puzzledly: “Lord Ace, what experimental data do we still need?”
Ace looked at Bayen and said with a grave expression:
“We need to experiment on too many things.
Can Divine Revelation users, Pseudo-Heroes, and even Heroes walk the path of Magic? Do they have an advantage on this path? Will they steal our results?
Are Divine Descendant Nobles like Knights, having great limitations in spellcasting? If so, where are the limitations?
Most Divine Descendant Nobles can only specialize in the power of their bloodline domain. Will this change after they embark on the path of Magic?
Assuming they can walk the path of Magic, how far can they go on this path?
Only after answering these four questions can we decide whether to develop lower-class Divine Descendant Nobles, rather than letting them steal our path of Magic!”
Bayen felt as if struck by lightning. He thought in a daze, cold sweat streaming down his back.
If the path of Magic were truly stolen by Divine Descendants, he would be the greatest sinner!
“Lord Ace, you are right. My thinking was too incomplete.”
Ace looked at Bayen and comforted him:
“I am just nipping trouble in the bud. In the nearly 100,000 years of civilization rising and falling in the World of Kaya, no one has walked our path yet. Perhaps Divine Descendants indeed have certain restrictions preventing them from walking or making them give up on this path.
All of this is just a hypothesis and must be based on experimental proof. Tomorrow, I will summon all Magic Council Members to the first floor of the West Tower to hold a secret Council meeting. Bring the Divine Descendant experimental subjects then. We need the collective of Advanced Apprentices to pass this matter!”
Early the next morning, all Magic Council Members—that is, Advanced Wizard Apprentices—arrived at the first floor of the West Tower.
“What do you think it is this time?”
“Maybe there are results from the experiments a few days ago?”
“I hope it’s good news. If Lord Ace succeeds, then we have hope too!”
“Silence, Lord Ace is coming…”
