Chapter 442: The Birth of Magical Mechanics
“Not all functions have derivatives, nor does a function necessarily have derivatives at all points. Finding a derivative is a process of finding a limit. The primitive function and the integral are equivalent and represent a reversible process…”
As she gained a deeper understanding of Calculus, the mist of runes covering Daina’s eyes seemed to be pushed aside. The various rune structure problems and meditation environment issues that used to give her headaches were solved easily.
Thousands of advanced wizard apprentices and the ten Official Wizards in the High Tower Territory sighed in admiration. The complex engineering of rune construction and improvement would be completely changed after the appearance of Calculus.
“Eddie, Eddie, this is the theoretical innovation we wanted! An innovation with no danger but capable of greatly improving our strength!”
Bruce said, the fat on his chubby face trembling, spittle flying as he spoke.
Eddie and Eva dodged slightly. Eddie was also excited: “Calculus definitely has epoch-making significance. It gives us a new perspective to understand magic, or more precisely, a new tool to study runes!”
At the top floor of the High Tower, Bayen held Calculus, his beard and hair bristling. He was spirited, almost roaring:
“This is an epoch-making masterpiece in the history of mathematics and magic! Its significance to magical research is like going from drinking blood to lighting the first fire. From now on, we have a tool for the study of magic, runes, and magic elements. We have wings to fly towards the truth!
“I suggest making Calculus a mandatory exam item for graduation from the Magic School and enforcing the study of Calculus throughout the High Tower Territory. I believe that during these thirty years of armistice, relying on the great Calculus, we will give birth to a large batch of Official Wizards and even more 3-Ring Wizards.
“The High Tower is bound to rise because of this!”
The other members of the Review Committee applauded excitedly. They all felt the call of the era and the immense charm of mathematical innovation—except for Warren.
Warren frowned, seemingly thinking carefully: “Infinitesimals… infinitesimals… what exactly are they? This definition is too vague. Maybe…”
Sulu gently nudged Warren with his elbow and whispered, “Clap quickly.”
Warren realized everyone was looking at him and applauded subconsciously, avoiding further embarrassment.
Thus, the Review Committee made a resolution: the course of Calculus was determined to be a mandatory exam item for graduation from the Magic School.
“Has Lord Ace come out?”
Bayen asked Daina in a low voice, looking slightly nervous.
Daina shook her head and whispered, “The West Tower has been completely sealed. Unless forcibly breached, no one can enter. Lord Ace seems to be conducting very important research. Even Arno was refused when he went for his routine visit to Ollie.”
Betty floated over on her silver disc and also whispered, “Maybe it’s related to the application of Calculus. I’ve always felt that Lord Ace wouldn’t propose the Theory of Natal Artifacts at this time for no reason.”
With longing and awe for theoretical innovation, the group left the High Tower one after another.
Magic Castle, top of the West Tower.
The entire top floor of the West Tower had been transformed into a huge astronomical observatory. Ace was seriously recording each observed data, constantly correcting his research.
Rather than research, it was more like a replication experiment—an experiment to deduce backward from a known result to see if it held true.
Ace looked up at the starry sky and slowly floated into the air. His mental imagery world gradually manifested, and a brilliant dream starry sky emerged. Bathed in starlight, Ace spoke in a firm and deep voice:
“Declaration:
“Based on two basic assumptions. First, it is assumed that time and space are absolute; the measurement of length and time intervals is independent of the observer’s motion, and the transmission of interactions between matter is instantaneous. Second, all observable physical quantities can in principle be determined with infinite precision—that is, infinitesimals.
“The scope of application is macroscopic, low-speed moving objects. The mathematical tool used is Calculus.”
This low voice sounded slowly and firmly, carrying an indomitable momentum, seeming to herald the arrival of a great era, seeming to herald that the brilliant era of magic was imminent.
It was nine o’clock at night. Sparse crowds strolling in the streets and alleys of Nightlight City were attracted by that brilliant dream starry sky and stopped involuntarily.
Many sleeping people suddenly woke up. They seemed to hear a stirring march. They walked out of their rooms slowly, looking up at the overlapping starry skies and listening to the deep voice.
Warren, who was looking up at the starry sky in thought, seemed to see the light. It was so dazzling. He slowly flew from his roof to below that brilliant dream starry sky.
Ace’s voice continued to sound. Mathematical formulas loomed in the dream starry sky. Suspended between the real starry sky and the dream starry sky, he wrote furiously on magic paper: “First Law of Motion: Every object, unless acted upon by an external force, will always maintain a constant velocity in a straight line or remain at rest. This is the Law of Inertia.”
Boom!
As Ace’s pen fell, the clear starry sky suddenly saw a gale rise and thunder roar. It seemed that the entire Inner World was cheering, or perhaps the Great Source was rejoicing.
The originally somewhat rough starry sky in the dream world changed rapidly. Stars began to orbit according to inertia. It seemed that invisible hands had changed everything. A large amount of mana gathered here. In the center of the storm, Ace’s silver hair danced wildly, but his expression remained composed.
“Second Law of Motion: Under the action of an external force, the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the external force acting on it and inversely proportional to the mass of the object. The direction of acceleration is the same as the direction of the net external force.”
Ace’s mental imagery world gradually solidified. The brilliant dream starry sky became substantial. The aura of the Great Source brushed past. The rune structure within every star was rapidly perfected, and the overall movement of the stars became increasingly regular. Ace did not hesitate and continued writing.
“Third Law of Motion: Action and reaction forces act on two different objects respectively. They are equal in magnitude, opposite in direction, act along the same straight line, disappear simultaneously, exist simultaneously, and are of the same nature.”
Rumble!
Nature was trembling, thunder was roaring, and the aura of the Great Source became increasingly thick. That aura poured into the mental imagery world, rapidly changing Ace’s world. The original pattern of a round sky and square earth quickly changed into the same state as the Inner World.
The Earth Centerstood as the largest celestial body in the center of the mental imagery world. The sun, moon, and stars moved regularly around the Earth core. Dazzling light erupted from the fully manifested mental imagery world, making the entire High Tower Territory as bright as day.
Ace’s momentum was constantly rising. His eyes burst with bright white brilliance. He continued to write furiously as if unaware. Mathematical equations flashed by one after another. The sun, moon, and stars, and even the hazy universe of the entire Inner World behind him, were like soldiers waiting for a monarch’s inspection.
People looked up at that hazy starry universe, ignoring the stinging pain of the dazzling light. Warren murmured even more: “Is this the reality of the world?”
